Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Plot
The story of this anime takes place in futuristic Japan in the city of Nihama shi. The whole story is set in the year 2030. It tells the story of an exclusive force doing special operations called Public Security Section-9. This series mainly focuses on the spoiled agents of Section-9, who were a part of the military and police, respectively. They observe how each case involving the military and police affects them personally. This chaos leads to a very hideous figure named “The Laughing Man”.
Now, if you haven’t watched this anime, you must be wondering what Section-9 is. Well, it’s a very elite anti-smuggling task force that is committed to the task of preventing acts of terrorism and other such crimes through technology. OOH! So, they have portrayed technology as evil. So, they investigate such cases related to cyberbrain hacking, etc . And now that you have come to know about the plot, let’s dwell a bit into the characters! Let me tell you about some of the main and highlighted characters in this series! Let’s go!
Main Characters
Motoko Kusanagi
Motoko Kusanagi is one of the main characters of the series. She’s known as the leader of Public Security. She’s also a part of Section-9 and she’s a cyborg too! When she was serving in the Japan Ground Self Defense Force, she got back her rank of “major”. Atsuko Tanka is her voice actress. The fun fact about this girl is that her personality has been portrayed differently in manga, anime, and movies. Her physique and character have been portrayed in a different way in each of the categories.
When it comes to her personality, she’s quite commanding. However, she often insults her troops. For instance, she called Aramaki “Ape-Faced.” I’m laughing so hard right now! Anyways, you all must be thinking, why does she look so emotionless? That’s not true! She smiles very often and has a habit of sticking her tongue out. Overall, she’s quite cute and she does this peace or victory sign for her boyfriend. Isn’t that the cutest thing you’ve ever heard? To be honoest, her personality is much more than it’s portrayed. Let’s move on to the next character now!
Togusa
Togusa is the male character that has been shown very prominently throughout the anime. He’s the only guy who hasn’t gone through the experiment of Section-9. Does that mean he’s not a cyborg? YES! He’s referred to as “natural.” Though, he’s known to have a cyberbrain since in the manga he’s cybernetic.
The sad fact about this guy is that he’s married and has a daughter too. His personality, just like Makoto’s, varies between the manga, movies, and anime categories. He’s a serious guy who wants to be friends with Batou and wants to work with him too. Togusa solved the Laughing Man case. He’s definitely uncorrupted, and by profession, he’s a detective.
Batou
Batou is known to be the second best male character in the anime. He’s a cool fighter and works under Section-9 as well. He used to be a part of the military, so, he’s got diverse knowledge about weapons and his strategies work really well!
He’s famous for being a light-hearted person. However, he also has a serious side to him. Batou frequently jokes around with Makoto. His styling and skills definitely deserve applause. So, put your hands together for Batou! *claps*
Saito
Saito is the main sniper of Section-9. He’s one of the least cyber brained members. His accuracy and precision when it comes to shooting is worth-appreciating. He has a prosthetic left eye. It was replaced with “hawkeye.” It’s no wonder he’s such a good shooter. Isn’t that right? He has the ability to think by putting himself in the shoes of his enemies. That’s how he predicts their next move. That’s pretty smart of him, right? So, his abilities make him stand out more than any other character in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
