Episode 9

When you see an episode titled “Natsu eats up a village”, you just know that it is a filler arc. I mean it is quite possible for Natsu to do so but you get what I mean. Makarov and Natsu are lost together in this episode. They sure do give Zoro vibes quite a lot.
Anyways, while trying to get back they come across a village where the houses turn into monsters. Next, it is quite easy to guess that Natsu goes on a rampage in that place.
Episode 19-20

The first episode in this couple of fillers is regarding unique magic that interchanged people’s bodies. Once you read this, you are probably expecting that Natsu and Lucy had switched bodies but that was not the case.
Lucy had switched body with Gray while Natsu interchanged his body with Loke. It created quite a fiasco and the only one who could help them was… Levy.
The next episode was a trip down memory lane. Lucy found a picture that showed all the Fairy Tail members when they were quite young. Erza immediately started telling Lucy, stories from their past which left her wondering about the identity of Lisanna at the end. It acted as a good refresher episode and created some suspense about Lisanna.
Episode 69-75 (Daphne Arc)

If long stretches of filler episodes were not enough, here you will find a complete filler arc. Yes, it is always mild or extreme in Fairy Tail and nothing is in between. As you can already see in the name of this arc, it is about a woman named Daphne. No, it is not the Scooby-Doo one since she captures many members of Fairy Tail.
But why has Gray joined her? Is he trying to fulfil her evil plans? It all starts after the members of the Allied Forces part ways with each other but instead of returning home, Natsu decides to investigate the rumours of a dragon.
Episode 125-150 (Key of the Starry Sky Arc)

Behold another filler arc in Fairy Tail! And this is also the longest stretch of filler episodes you can find in Fairy Tail. Coincidentally, this arc takes place right after the time-skip in the story. So after a long gap in which all the members of Fairy Tail were missing, the writers decided to make another arc instead of jumping straight to the main story.
I guess the seven year break was clearly not enough for the fans. Everything seemed normal after the Fairy Tail members returned, but trouble appeared soon, along with a girl. She brought a sort of memento from the late father of Lucy.
Lucy always had many secrets to hide and since her father was one of the richest characters in the story, the memento was inevitably going to put her in a troubled state. And as expected it seemed a lot of new and familiar faces were after that memento which caused the Fairy Tail members to get mixed up in the situation.
Episode 202-226 (Eclipse Celestial Spirits Arc)

Not one, not two but there are a total of three filler arcs in Fairy Tail. And this arc is just short of a few episodes than the previous one. Whenever Fairy Tail creators aim to make a filler arc, they sure aim big. This arc is probably more enjoyable compared to the other two since they involve the celestial spirits.
After all, everyone loves them. The story in this arc starts right after the Eclipse incident and we see that its effect still remains. The incident has caused a strange phenomenon and now the twelve zodiac gates refuse to close.
The celestial spirits also don’t seem to be too friendly. Not only their appearance but their personalities have also changed. They start a rebellion against their masters and demand complete freedom.
Episode 246

All the filler arcs are done and dusted. You will now only get some, one-off filler episodes. This episode takes place in the Tartaros Arc and is specifically about the Underworld King. The strange thing about Fairy Tail is that throughout the story we have always tried to find the ultimate boss.
So, when the story reached this part fans assumed it was the Underworld King and were very excited to see him. It also introduced us to the last member of the Seven Kin of Purgatory, Rustyrose.
Episode 256

This filler episode just tries to extend the series as much as possible. It is titled Final Duels and we see that our heroes are almost at the end of their fights. Laxus is busy with Tempester as he tries to find a solution to defeat him. Since he is technically immortal, Laxus wonders if it is possible to beat him at all in the first place.
On the other side, Erza and Minerva are occupied with Face. They have stopped Seilah’s curse but Face is still active and they are almost out of ideas. To put more misery on their plate, Kyoka appears out of nowhere and challenges Erza this one final time.
Episode 268

A filler episode within a flashback arc? Yup, these kinds of things can only happen in Fairy Tail. This episode is part ofFairy Tail Zero where we saw the First Master setting up Fairy Tail for the first time. This episode begins with the group starting their journey towards Hargeon.
They stop in the middle of the sea to take some rest while two of the members, discuss about funds. Meanwhile, Mavis being Mavis finds an ancient temple under the ocean that brings a lot of mysteries along with it.
Fairy Tail Comprehensive Filler Guide
1. Zerø arc (Episodes 266-275)

The Zero arc in Fairy Tail does not belong to the main storyline. But it is also not a filler. This is why we are listing it separately from all the other arcs. Basically, this arc tells the story about the first master and how the Fairy Tail was established.
We come to know about how she met the other founding members and their stories of adventure. As we know, the name of the first master is Mavis Vermilion. Before forming Fairy Tail, she was part of another guild called Red Lizard. Her story took place many years ago when her old guild was caught up in a war with Blue Skull.
Zera was also introduced here and as usual, Mavis had to save her neck many times. But the main surprise came later when three mysterious men visited them while looking for a treasure.
As we know, these three mysterious men were the other founding members of Fairy Tail. Their search for treasure leads the group to an island where Mavis manages to convince Yuri and the others to allow them to join their treasure hunt.
2. Macao arc (Episodes 1-2)

This is the very first arc of Fairy Tail which consists of only two episodes. It also justifies the name of the arc perfectly since it was about a man named Macao. The whole arc is divided into two parts. The first part is the introduction of Fairy Tail while the second part is when Lucy and Natsu take their first unofficial mission together.
In the first part, we see Lucy searching for celestial keys and Natsu looking for someone named Igneel. Lucy gets tricked by an imposter named Salamander and eventually gets kidnapped by him. But Natsu happens to overhear the identity of the Salamander and rages that someone was tarnishing the name of Fairy Tail.
He immediately burst onto the scene and rescued Lucy with his Fire Magic. In the second part, they went looking for a guy named Macao. This took them to frozen mountains where we saw Lucy’s first celestial spirit, Taurus. We also got to see Natsu’s feelings towards the dragon, Igneel, who had raised him.
3. Daybreak arc (Episodes 3-4)

This is the arc where Lucy and Natsu went on their first official mission. Although rescuing Macao was a mission for them too, it was not an official one since it was not put up on the board.
So, after Lucy came to know about how missions work, she immediately came over to Natsu to convince him to form a team. Natsu as usual was hesitant to do so since he liked to work alone. After a lot of effort, he finally agreed to form a team and they took on their first job. It was in a mansion where they had to retrieve a book and bring it to the person who had requested that job.
It wasn’t an easy task as the owner of the mansion was also a celestial spirit user. But they finally managed to beat them and the celestial spirit, Virgo, came under Lucy’s possession. They took the book to the rightful owner where a big twist was revealed and our heroes returned to the guild.
4. Eisenwald arc (Episodes 5-10)

This arc can also be renamed as the introduction of Erza Arc. Erza Scarlet is a dominant character in Fairy Tail who has been the centre for many incidents that follow later. She is freakishly strong and everyone is just VERY scared of her.
Even Natsu who seems so up and Ready for anything every time, cowers whenever she appears. Erza serves as a good way to keep the members of Fairy Tail in check. Otherwise, they always create a ruckus, it is a surprise that the building is still in one piece. Erza came with news about a Dark Guild named Eisenwald.

Dark Guilds were those which were banished by the Magic Council but still continued to operate under the shadows. Erza got the news that they were plotting something and formed up a team with Natsu, Lucy and Gray to look into the matter.
They found out that they had got their hands on Lullaby and were planning to attack the Magic Council itself where the guild masters were having their meeting. There is only one filler episode in this arc and that is episode 9.
5. Sub-Zero Emperor Lyon arc (Episodes 11-20)

S-class jobs had always been an attraction for Natsu. He was always trying to prove his strength. But the only problem was that only a few selected members could take on an S-class quest and one of them was Laxus. Natsu and Laxus didn’t get along too well, so he got Happy to steal an S-class quest from the board.
He convinced Lucy to join him and they set off on their adventure to Galuna Island. When they arrived at the port they found Gray who had decided to not let them leave alone since S-class quests are highly dangerous.

On reaching the Island, they found out that the moonlight was turning everyone on that Island into a demon. And behind it was the plot of Gray’s old friend, Lyon, who was trying to revive a demon.
Essentially, this arc acted as a backstory for Gray where we came to know about his master and how he had developed the habit of stripping unconsciously. Later, Erza also arrived at the scene and the situation was brought under control. The last two episodes in this arc are fillers and you can skip them.
6. Phantom Lord arc (Episodes 21-29)

Erza was extremely angry with Natsu since he decided to overlook the guild’s rules and ran away with a quest on his own. But on arriving back to Fairy Tail, they saw that their guild headquarters was in ruins.
They soon found out that it was the work of a rival guild named Phantom Lord. The situation did not stop there. They came to know that one of Phantom Lord’s members, Gazeel had beaten three members of Fairy Tail badly and pinned them to a tree. It infuriated all the Fairy Tail members who immediately attacked the guild of Phantom Lord.
But their main intention was not to destroy Fairy Tail. They just wanted to abduct Lucy and send her to her father. There are no filler episodes in this arc and at the end, we also saw two members of Phantom Lord joining the Fairy Tail guild.
7. Loke arc (Episodes 30-32)

This is an interesting arc that contains only three episodes. As you can already see from the name of this arc, it is about the Fairy Tail member named Loke. Now, Loke was introduced at the very beginning of the series along with the other important members. He was a playboy and was only seen around a bunch of girls.
Not going to lie, but Loke gave off serious Sanji vibes. Loke’s only problem was that he stayed as far away from Celestial wizards as much as possible. Apparently, a celestial wizard had broken his heart long ago and he never trusted them anymore.
Lucy tried to investigate more into the matter and things got heated. Later we came to know a big secret about the real identity of Loke. Since there are only a few episodes in this arc, there are no fillers here.
8. Tower of Heaven arc (Episodes 33-40)

Fairy Tail has lots of backstories and I mean LOTS!! In this arc, we get to see the backstory of Erza. The valiant wizard knight with shining red hair is feared by everyone. But, was she always like that from her childhood?
We saw a sneak peek into her past where she was working as a child to build the Tower of Heaven under oppressing conditions. She thought that she had left her past behind but on the very same day she encountered her previous peers again who took her along with them. We were also introduced to another character named Jellal who was going to play a very important part in this series.
He was hiding his identity and living under the disguise of a council member so that he could fulfill his plan. But ultimately, Natsu and the gang arrived to rescue Erza and put a stop to the Tower of Heaven. This arc is also a filler free arc and you can enjoy Erza’s backstory without any interruption.
9. The Battle of Fairy Tail arc (Episodes 41-51)

The title of this arc may be pretty confusing for people who are not familiar with Fairy Tail. After all, how can Fairy Tail members have a fight between themselves? But when there are members like Laxus, anything is possible. Laxus grew frustrated at how the guild was run and decided to take matters into his own hands.
When the harvest festival was going on, he sabotaged it with his team, the Raijin Tribe. He wanted to take over the leadership of the guild and he placed a challenge for them. But to do that Fairy Tail members were forced to fight amongst themselves while Laxus and his team were waiting for the numbers to decrease.
The events eventually led to a big fight between Natsu and Laxus at the end. The mysterious member, Mystogan also took part in the competition. We came to know that Laxus had dragon slayer powers just like Natsu and the fans were thoroughly entertained. You will not find any filler episodes in this arc and the only thing you will get are thrilling fights.
10. Oración Seis arc (Episodes 52-68)

This arc is loved by many Fairy Tail fans. I have previously mentioned Dark Guilds and Oracion Seis was one of them. Three Dark Guilds, including Oracion Seis, had come together to form an alliance that posed a big threat to the magical world.
Some of the masters in the Magic Council decided to form an alliance of their own in order to tackle this matter. They each sent out some members who were going to take down Oracion Seis. These guilds were – Fairy Tail, Lamia Scale, Blue Pegasus and Cait Shelter.
The job wasn’t easy at all for the alliance as the members of Oracion Seis proved to be way too strong. At the end of the arc, the sole member of Cait Shelter decided to join the guild of Fairy Tail. Once again you will not find a filler episode in this arc, as there is a whole filler arc, right after this one.
11. Daphne Arc (Episodes 69-75, Filler Arc)

12. Edolas arc (Episodes 76-95)

We always wonder if another world or something like a parallel dimension exists in the universe. The Edolas arc in Fairy Tail is regarding that parallel world. An Anima (hyperdimensional transport spell) grows too big and sucks all the Fairy Tail members, along with the whole Magnolia Town to the other world.
Surprisingly, Natsu, Wendy and their cats were the only exceptions. They decide to go there on their own, to bring their friends back. But when they arrived at that place, they were surprised to find another Fairy Tail, whose members had personalities completely different to the original Fairy Tail members.
A big plot was revealed regarding the identity of Carla, Happy and Mystogan that left everyone stunned. The original Fairy Tail team were finally able to stop the villainous plot and also happened to discover Lisanna whom everyone considered dead.
After a whole filler arc, you would expect this one to be filler free and it actually is. There will be no fillers mixed in our heroes’ adventures in Edolas.
13. Tenrou Island arc (Episodes 96-122)

This Arc revealed many secrets of Fairy Tail including the identity of the First Master and the three strongest magics exclusive to the Fairy Tail guild. It started with an exam with the sole purpose of choosing a S-class mage.
The destination of the exam was going to be on Tenrou Island where the grave of the first master was situated. Whoever could find the grave first, would attain the rank of a S-class mage. But since this is Fairy Tail we are talking about, things were not going to be so straightforward.
Carla sees a vision of absolute destruction that makes her very worried about the future. On the other hand, Cana’s past will be shown and we will find out why she is so stressed with the results of this examination. You will not find a single filler episode in this arc which is good, since Grimoire Heart also comes to pay a little visit.
14. X791 arc (Episodes 123-124)

This arc contains only two episodes and takes place seven years after the previous arc. There is a seven-year gap period that essentially serves as a time skip. But unlike other anime, where the protagonists are seen training to build up their power, our heroes in Fairy Tail remain frozen in time.
And since the guild missed its strongest members in these seven years, the value of Fairy Tail’s name decreased. The other guilds took advantage of this crisis to bully the weaker members of Fairy Tail and it soon crashed down from its top position.
Just when things seemed to get totally out of control and the oppression from the rival guilds was too much to ignore, our heroes made a grand entry. It becomes an emotional reunion for everyone and they set out to restore the lost status of their home.
15. Key of the Starry Sky arc (Episodes 125-150, Filler Arc)

16. Grand Magic Games arc (Episodes 151-203)

In this arc, we saw the spectacle known as the Grand Magic Games. It was a competition to determine the best guild and in those seven years that Fairy Tail had been missing, the other guilds capitalised and made their way into the leaderboard.
The best thing about this arc is that not only did we see the old guilds participating but many new guilds were also introduced like Sabertooth and Raven Tail. This arc saw the formation of many rivalries that went on to affect the main course of the story.
From Sabertooth, two new dragon slayers were introduced that had lacrima crystals in their bodies. Fairy Tail took part in the competition to acclaim their lost glory and prove themselves as the best guild in Magnolia.
Side by side, a dark plot was uncovering itself that saw two characters time travel from the future. The last two episodes – 202 and 203 are fillers in this arc which is very little compared to the size of the whole arc.
17. Eclipse Celestial Spirits arc (Episodes 204-226, Filler Arc)

18. Sun Village arc (Episodes 227-233)

This arc serves as a refresher after all the seriousness of the Grand Magic Games Arc. Because let’s be real, if the author jumped straight to the Tartaros Arc after this, it would have been a lot for the watchers to take.
It serves as the aftermath of the Grand Magic Games, where our heroes got one request after the other. They didn’t even have time to breathe. Among all these requests, one was made by the fourth-ranked Wizard Saint, Warrod Sequen.
The Fairy Tail guild master, Makarov got terrified by this and immediately told Natsu and his team to be on their best behaviour. It was also a priority request since it was made by one of the strongest Wizard Saints.
Warrod resided in the Sun Village and while Natsu and his team were going towards their destination they came across many obstacles. This is a small arc and therefore you will not find any spoilers here.
19. Tartaros arc (Episodes 234-265)

This is arguably one of the best and most important arcs of Fairy Tail. I previously spoke about the alliance between three dark guilds that posed a grave threat to the magical world. Out of those three, Oracion Seis and Grimoire Heart had already been taken down. The last dark guild left was Tartaros and it was by far the strongest out of all of them.
This is because this dark guild was comprised of monsters from the underworld that were basically Zeref’s demons. Moreover, their leader was the Underworld King and they were trying to activate “Face,” that would wipe out the entire world. Naturally, you can all see for yourselves that a lot was at stake and emotions were running.
Many secrets were revealed including the origin of Natsu. The dragons also made an appearance and helped them to save the world and the reason for their disappearance seven years ago was revealed. This arc started on a very violent note as the Nine Demon Gates launched their attack by taking down the Magic Council.
They were hunting all its members one by one which forced Fairy Tail to intervene. They came to know that the original plan of the Dark Guild was to activate a weapon hidden by the Magic Council. And they were hunting down the Magic Council members to get the key that resided in three of them.
The Fairy Tail members could not stop it from getting into the hands of Tartaros, so they tracked down their location and tried to defeat them. Episodes 246 and 256 are the filler episodes in this arc and you can avoid them if you want.
20. Avatar arc (Episodes 276-284)

This arc eases us slowly to the biggest and final arc in Fairy Tail. After the Tartaros Arc, the guild master, Makarov suddenly decided that it was better for the guild to be disbanded. This happened after Natsu went off to train, so he was not there to stop it. He was preparing himself to go on a 100 years quest.
When he returned he was surprised to see that Fairy Tail had been disbanded and the other members had dispersed. He came across Lucy first who had taken up a job in the press. Lucy teamed up with Natsu to find the other members of Fairy Tail who had joined different guilds.
It wasn’t easy to bring them back since they had grown attached to the guild. Like in the case of Wendy who straight up rejected the idea of coming back to Fairy Tail and it took a lot of convincing.
Finally, after gathering all the members, they started rebuilding their guild from scratch with Erza as the temporary guild master. The Avatar Arc does not contain any fillers so fans should not worry about it.
21. Alvarez Empire arc (Episodes 285-328)

Finally, we arrive at the last arc of Fairy Tail which saw our heroes confronting Zeref. Zeref had always been the final boss in Fairy Tail and they were destined to fight him. It started after the rebuild of the Fairy Tail guild when Mest informed them of the real reason behind the disbandment of Fairy Tail.
Makarov had gone to the Alvarez Empire and since he did not want to endanger the lives of others, he broke the guild. Erza immediately put together a short team and invaded the empire to rescue their master. After coming back, the biggest secret of Fairy Tail regarding the Lumen Histoire was revealed.
Meanwhile, the Alvarez Empire was marching its forces to retrieve that and Fairy Tail needed to stop them. The final battle arc is also free of filler episodes which is surely good news for the fans.
22. 100 Years Quest arc

This is a sequel arc to Fairy Tail which is not exactly a part of the main story. But recently it was announced that this arc is going to be animated which has made the fans really excited.
It happens after the Alvarez Empire Arc when Natsu and his team embark on a 100 years quest. Their main mission is to seal five powerful dragons whose strengths are comparable to that of Acnologia.
Comment Down Below

This is the easiest filler list for Fairy Tail that will help you watch the anime in the proper order. If you are not a fan of fillers, you can skip them altogether or, you can just watch them.
It’s good that they have listed out the fillers in the form of arcs which makes it easy for the fans to distinguish between them. Otherwise, it is only a mere 200 episodes that I am sure is a cakewalk for most weebs.
