86 Plot

86

The story introduces us to a war between The Republic of Magnolia and the Giadian Empire that has been going on for years. There are countless lives that are being sacrificed in the name of war. The Republic is using Juggernauts, which are combat machines, to fend off the Legions that are sent from their rival, the Giadian Empire.

A bunch of young boys and girls known as “86” are constantly fighting for their rights that were taken from them by the Republic. They do so by piloting the Juggernauts for the Republic and fighting the Legion.

The Spearhead Squadron of the 86 is put under the supervision of a Republican Major named Lena. Lena wants to liberate the 86 of their misery and is determined to help them. However, there is a rumour going on that Undertaker, the leader of the Squadron, is capable of mentally destroying the commanding officer in charge.

When the 86 got to know about the new handler, it was not new news for them. However, it was quite unusual for them how Lena wanted to communicate with them. The 86 are always on standby as the Legion could attack at any moment. To spend their time, the Squadron just relax, eat and talk to each other. As they’re relaxing, they’re informed of an enemy attack and they head to the site immediately. That’s when Lena realizes why Undertaker is so feared by the Handlers.

Kurena is one of the members of the Squadron who has a crush on Undertaker, Shin. That’s why she often feels uncomfortable when Lena tries to communicate with Shin. The members of the Squadron slowly open up to Lena except for a few members who hate the Republicans.

There is a battle between the Squadron and the Legion where the Squadron loses a few of their members. Lena is mourning the dead when Theo, another member of the Squadron, starts letting his anger out on Lena. Though he regrets it later and apologizes to Lena.

Lena had been constantly hearing the voices of the people just before they’re going to die through her Para-RAID. It only happens when she’s connected to Shin. The voices are taking a toll on Lena and she’s also worried about the members of the Squadron affected by her.

episode 11

The Squadron are on their Special Reconnaissance Mission when they hear a strange sound of someone calling out Shin’s name. They’re all very scared but are told to proceed through the forest. Shin fights most of the Legions alone. The rest of the members are separated from him and are completely worn out. They’re able to fend off the enemy and that’s when they liberate themselves from the Republic. The members of the Squadron move forward with nowhere to go.

They’re still not completely safe from the Legion. The Squadron reach their final destination. They vow to their fallen members that they will continue the fight against the Legion and will not stop no matter what. Meanwhile, Lena arrives where the Squadron Members used to live. She feels as if all the members are present there but it’s not the case at all. All of them are gone
