We are giving you the ultimate and updated Durarara Filler List and Filler Guide that covers all of its  filler episodes. Fortunately for you guys, Durarara!! doesn’t have any filler episodes and everything is canon. It’s an amazing show with equally amazing and quirky characters. WHAT IS DURARARA!!?

Do you love the metropolitan vibe of Tokyo? Then come to Tokyo’s downtown Ikebukuro District to meet the most interesting set of characters you will ever meet! From gangsters to a mysterious biker, getting bored is the least of your worries.

Having both a manga and anime adaptation, the Japanese anime release aired the first season in the Winter Season of 2010, while the North American release aired in the Summer Season of 2011 led by Studio Brain’s Base. It released 24 episodes and 2 OVAs.

The second season, which was produced by Studio Shuka, aired in three separate spans in the Winter Season of 2015, Summer Season of 2015, and Winter Season of 2016. Each span contained 12 episodes and an OVA.

If you haven’t finished the anime yet, you should go watch it now. But if you want to learn more about the wonderful world of Durarara!! then stay and prepare yourself, because we are going to dive deep into its interesting plot and characters.

 

DURARARA!! STORY ARCS

Filled with suspense in every scene, Durarara!! first focuses on the perspective of Mikado Ryuugamine. He moves to Ikebukuro to attend Raira Academy, which his childhood best friend, Masaomi Kida, encouraged.

The two enjoy a long-awaited reunion while Kida introduces Mikado to the streets of Ikebukuro, but also warns him of the dangers that are lurking around that they might come across.

These are Simon Brezhnev, Shizuo Heiwajima, and Orihara Izaya. We’ll go in-depth on them later, though Kida is notably careful not to get on their bad side and tells Mikado to watch out for them.

He also mentions a gang that is rising in popularity recently, its name is Dollars. There are other gangs present in the district which represent different colors, but the Dollars gang is different because it is colorless.

While Kida is out picking up girls, Mikado encounters a strange biker roaming the streets of Ikebukuro. Kida congratulates him, seeing the “Black Bike” legend up close on his first day in Tokyo.

Mikado and Kida eventually meet Anri Sonohara, a quiet and timid student who also attends Raira Academy. The three become best of friends as they experience life together, something she longed for after getting bullied for a long time.

The story then shows the different viewpoints of each character. Like Seiji Yagiri, another student in Raira Academy with a hidden obsession and currently being stalked by Anri’s friend, Mika Harima, so she can confess her love to Seiji.

Kyouhei Kadota is a leader of a small gang together with Walker Yumasaki, Erika Karisawa, and Saburo Togusa. Soon, it was revealed that they are part of Dollars, but Kadota tells the others that he still hasn’t seen the leader of Dollars.

Shinra Kishitani, an underground doctor and scientist, has a close relationship with the Black Biker. Her name is Celty Sturluson, a headless being of folklore (also called a Dullahan) with a mission to find her head.

Soon, these characters will be involved with Yagiri Pharmaceuticals which is led by Namie Yagiri. A pharmaceutical company with criminal ties to the underworld, Namie constantly protects its reputation while being obsessed with her brother, Seiji.

 

Mika Harima Arc

Remember Seiji’s stalker? She goes missing after breaking into Seiji’s room and Anri asks around if anybody has seen her. After witnessing something she shouldn’t have seen in the room, Seiji attacked her. Her sister, Namie, cleans up the body and hugs Seiji.

Kida accidentally bumps into Izaya, an eccentric information broker with strong ideals and a taste for violence. Kida is immediately shocked when Izaya notices Mikado, he develops a liking for him and becomes involved with the two later.

Mika is found wandering the streets alive but has a scar on her neck, with no memory of what happened beforehand. Mikado bumps into Mika unexpectedly and sees her being followed by Celty. In a panic, she grabs her and escapes.

Mikado confronts Namie and offers a deal to expose the illegal operations of her company, but Namie refuses and tries to capture him. This is where he reveals that he is the leader of Dollars, Namie slips out to escape while the crowd is distracted by Celty.

Yagiri Pharmaceuticals had Celty’s head all along. Mika soon reunites with Seiji to be with him, but everything is revealed when Mika confesses that she had plastic surgery to fool Seiji into loving her since Seiji was obsessed with Celty’s head.

Namie reaches out to Izaya, she convinces him to help her hide in exchange for Celty’s head. Izaya reveals that he was the one giving Mika information to escape Namie’s grasp which led to her downfall as company chief, all for supporting her brother’s love.

Celty confronts Shinra after she found out that he was Mika’s plastic surgeon, Shinra confesses his feelings towards Celty. Shinra offers himself to be punched and Celty knocks him to the floor, the two embrace after a heartfelt speech from one another.

 

Saika Arc

A slasher with red eyes is on the loose in Ikebukuro, people keep getting cut and everybody is talking about it. While Celty was chasing a man for stealing money, she was suddenly attacked by the slasher with a katana but was not harmed.

The next day, Anri is approached by her teacher, Takashi Nasujima, who harasses her but Kida interrupts them by mentioning the name of a former student. Kida explains that the teacher and the former student were involved in an incident.

After discussing the recent attack with Shinra and Shizuo, Celty and Shizuo team up to track the slasher down. They find the slasher using a knife to attack Anri, they are able to stop the slasher and Celty takes the knife so she can examine it further.

Feeling relieved, Shinra and Celty discuss the attacks and the chat messages “Saika” left. Shinra concludes that the demon blade is cursed and can possess the victim through cuts, he also noticed that the knife was made in 2009 so it wasn’t Saika’s blade.

Meanwhile, Anri is at her home when suddenly Haruna Niekawa appears on her doorstep. She is possessed by Saika and attempts to kill Anri because her teacher, Takashi, has taken a liking to her. She reveals that they had a romantic relationship.

But suddenly, Takashi also arrives at Anri’s home and sees Niekawa. He immediately runs away from her, Niekawa decides to chase after him and leave Anri to be killed by her “children”.

Realizing that the slasher is still on the loose, Celty goes toward Shizuo and explains the situation. They go to a park and suddenly get surrounded by Saika’s children, Shizuo says he can handle it and tells Celty to chase after the real Saika. 

Niekawa caught up to Takashi and backed him into a corner, she was about to cut him when Anri arrived unharmed. Niekawa is confused, but Anri reveals that she is the real “Saika” with her demonic katana and convinces Niekawa that she is the fake one.

With a cut on the neck, Anri gains control of Niekawa’s children and stops them from attacking any more people. After Anri is hospitalized, it is revealed that Takashi was the man Celty was chasing after he stole money from Izaya. 

He intentionally let the money be stolen by Takashi so he can manipulate him using his debts and told Takashi where Anri lived. He indirectly caused all the encounters and in turn, starts a conflict that will shake Ikebukuro to its knees.

 

Yellow Scarves Arc

Anri finds out that Kida is a leader of a gang called Yellow Scarves, some of the members tried to hunt Anri but she was saved by Simon and Shizuo. We learn that Kida is hunting down the Saika slasher and assumes the Dollars are involved.

Kida still doesn’t know Anri’s true identity, but soon learns that Mikado leads the Dollars. He confronts the Yellow Scarves but gets beat up by Horada and the other members, this is because the remaining Yellow Scarves are former Blue Square members.

Loyal to Horada, the Blue Square members no longer listen to Kida. But he is rescued by Anri, Mikado, Celty, and Kadota’s gang. They pull out an uno-reverse card on Horada by revealing that some Yellow Scarves members were actually from Dollars. 

Able to fight back, Kadota gets Kida to safety and cleans up the Blue Square members. In the background, all of it started because of his girlfriend, Saki, who was manipulated by Izaya to approach Kida but the two make up and decide to leave Ikebukuro together.

 

Hollywood Arc

A Russian hitman is hired to capture a serial killer known as “Hollywood”, while Celty is being chased down by talent managers and the public. Kadota’s gang also gets involved with the biker gang, Toramaru, along with Mikado, Anri, and first-year Aoba Kuronuma.

Egor, nicknamed the “Philosophical Killing Machine”, encounters Hollywood and faces off in a park. Shizuo gets caught in the fight and gets angry, he smashes a park bench on Egor’s face and sends Hollywood flying to Kasuka Heiwajima’s car.

Kasuka brings Hollywood to his apartment and calls Shinra to treat her wounds, we see that Hollywood’s real identity is Ruri Hijiribe. A popular celebrity and idol, Kasuka didn’t report her identity to the authorities and instead formed a bond with the serial killer.

 

Toramaru Arc

A strange girl named Akane is staring through a window, looking at Shizuo and Tom Tanaka. After approaching Shizuo, she uses a stun gun on him but gets knocked down. The police arrive, Tom and Shizuo escape while Akane gets dragged by Shizuo.

Toramaru and Dollars get into a conflict, trying to find information about Dollars’ leader. Aoba shows his true colors and reveals his involvement with the Blue Squares, he also has ties with Izaya but dislikes him because of their similar personalities.

Aoba talks to Mikado and asks him to be the next leader of the Blue Squares, pledging his full loyalty to him. Mikado refuses, but Aoba is not convinced since Mikado was smiling the whole time.

 

Daily Life Arc

It focuses on the lives of other characters in Ikebukuro as they go back to normal after the Toramaru incident. It is told from their perspective segregated into five short stories.

 

Adabashi Arc

Ruri is stalked by a Dollars member, his name is Kisuke Adabashi. He attempts to kidnap her and burns down her house, using the Dollars network to get information about her. Mikado learns about this exploitation and decides to perform a “cleansing”.

Mikado embraces Aoba’s offer and becomes Blue Square’s leader. Using his influence and power, he purges the Dollars by targeting undesirable members like Kisuke. Kida returns to Ikebukuro to meet Mikado but finds him on the brink of death.

Kida saves him on time, Mikado gets up and pours gasoline on Kisuke then lights him on fire. Kida is shocked to see this, but Mikado is unfazed then tells Kida that they shouldn’t meet yet because he is still creating an ideal place for them to return.

 

Amphisbaena/Dragon Zombie Arc

Celty notices an old scar on Shinra’s side, he tells her about his high school days with Izaya where he got stabbed accidentally by Nakura. How he and Izaya changed into who they are today.

Izaya is assigned to gather information on two groups. The first group, Amphisbaena, an illegal gambling parlor and a group distributing a dangerous drug called Heaven’s Slave. While doing the job, he is captured by a woman who calls herself “Earthworm”.

While Izaya is being grilled into spilling out information, Shijima appears. He is the leader of Heaven’s Slave and came to kill Izaya, he found out about her and the location from Izaya’s laptop. While arguing with each other, Earthworm receives a phone call.

Soon, they learn that Izaya is the real boss of Amphisbaena. Izaya and Nakura created a gambling ring but abandoned the group because Izaya was getting bored. Earthworm took control when the two were gone, she also has a love obsession with Nakura.

Izaya breaks free, he joins Mikage Sharaku and Ran Izumii who barge into the room. Along with other members of Dragon Zombie, they begin to fight the two groups.

Earthworm orders her group to kill Izaya but doesn’t respond, instead they stare blankly.

Earthworm realize that they have glowing red eyes, and Izaya orders Haruna to use Saika on Earthworm. Izaya tells them that the 2 groups were intentionally lured into one location, he goes home as everything is resolved. 

A mix of action, mystery, and high school romance. All these characters will soon find themselves in conflict with one another or working together to fight a common enemy, Ikebukuro offers them the freedom to bend the rules and act as they please.
