Black Butler Season 1 or also called Kuroshitsuji has 24 episodes and 1 OVA. It kicks off the anime series’ plot. It was animated by A-1 Pictures and started premiering on October 3, 2008.
One thing to note of Black Butler Season 1 is that its storyline completely separated from the original Manga source starting from the Indian Butler Arc. This was due to some demand of the fans, especially those who want to have Sebastian get more screen time.

Black Butler Season 2

Black Butler Season 2 or called Kuroshitsuji II follows where the first season left off. Since the first season started to diverge from the manga, the second season is meant to finish off what they started. So they completely made Season 2 an anime-only season.
The second season was still animated by A-1 Pictures and started airing on July 1, 2010. It ended on September 17, 2010, with a total of 12 episodes and 6 OVAs. Here, we get introduced to new characters named Alois Trancy and Claude Faustus.
Ciel and Sebastian also make a comeback although they don’t get involved much in the story when the season started. Imagine an anime without the main characters. Well, I think Jujutsu Kaisen would be okay without the MC, there’s always Gojo. But bro, Gojo’s just Gojo. That man has too much chad energy!

Where To Watch Black Butler?
What is Black Butler?

Black Butler was originally a dark fantasy, supernatural, and detective manga series that has a total of 30 volumes. It was written by one of the few but talented female mangaka. We don’t really know her real name but she goes by the pen name Yana Toboso. Bro, how do they come up with these pen names? I have one but it was PizzaPie. Who’s gonna read a novel by PizzaPie????
Unsurprisingly, a great series just like this already has several adaptations. It has a musical, OVAs, and even a video game. But what we’re here for is the ANIME ADAPTATION. Of course, if you haven’t guessed it, there are no fillers in Musicals. Well, I know you’re pretty smart, smarter than someone who had a pen name called PizzaPie.
Black butler Plot

The story of Black Butler follows a pirate named Ciel Phantomhive who’s part of the Strawhat Crew. Okay seriously, Ciel Phantomhive is the main character of the Black Butler series. Ciel is called the Queen’s Watchdog and is under her personal command. Ciel Phantomhive also has other nicknames such as the Aristocrat of Evil, Smile, and another nickname I would like to add is “Devil’s Advocate”. He is currently the head of his family.
Ciel’s backstory is not a pleasant one. He was born with a twin with the same name, “Ciel”. Their entire family was assassinated and they were sold to a cult as slaves. There, the twins were prepared as tributes and “Ciel” was butchered while Ciel just looked on, helpless, knowing that the supreme being had abandoned them.
After rejecting God, Ciel summoned a demon. Ciel made a Faustian contract with this demon in exchange for his soul, and a seal was engraved into his right eye. Ciel named the demon Sebastian Michaelis and ordered Sebastian to kill the cultist. The building was turned into ash and Ciel finally worded out his absolute law to Sebastian. It was to protect him, never lie, and Sebastian must give Ciel his unwavering loyalty. And so, the journey of a Demon Butler and his master, a young Soulless Aristocrat begins as they dive deep into the hellhole of Victorian London.
Differences from the Manga

It’s clear to everyone that the anime series clearly has a lot of differences when compared to the Manga. Not only in the first season, but in the second season and moving forward as well. There are several anime-only episodes in the first season that showed events that did not happen in the Manga.
Some of these episodes include “His Butler, Merrymaking”, “His Butler, Training”, and “His Butler, Phantom Image”. Another thing to look out for is that the entirety of the Black Butler second season is all anime original episodes. I know this comes as a shock but it did give some more depth to the series.
Book of Circus or Season 3 also had some differences between the manga and the anime. In “His Butler, Presenting” in the manga, John Brown was the one who gave Ciel the tickets to Noah’s Ark Circus while in the anime, Lau was the one who gave the tickets to Ciel. This happened after he was mistaken by John Brown and two others as a staff for the Phantomhive manor.

The entirety of Season 2 is also just fillers. It completely deviated from the manga and started to make a storyline that is anime-original. We never get back to the manga until Season 3 of the series. But that doesn’t mean that you should skip the fillers.
The fillers also offer up a lot of fun with regard to the series. For example, the second season and the OVAs, give more depth to the world-building within the series. It also gives some fun moments aside from the depressing atmosphere of the place. I mean, come on, why does it always look like it’s night time in London? Does the sun suddenly disappear whenever there’s a mystery?
Filler Episodes Plots and Explanations

This time I’m gonna explain the plot of each filler so that you wouldn’t have to watch them. But if you do want to watch them, then it’s all the better! This is for those die-hard canon fans that only want to stick to the original storyline. Don’t worry, here at QuoteTheAnime we do not discriminate!
Just don’t say to my face that Kingdom is a bad show because I will find you, and I will kill you. So without further ado, here are the filler episodes and their plots!
Episode 1

Surprisingly, the anime kicks off the series with a filler episode. Episode 1 became a filler because our girl, Yana Toboso wanted more attention and screen time for Sebastian. He is her favorite character but hey, we all love Sebastian. This episode skips some chapters of the manga as it directly takes place in Volume 3. The English version aired on January 11, 2011, while the Japanese version was released on October 2, 2008.
The plot of the episode follows the events 2 years after Ciel summoned Sebastian. This time Sebastian wakes Ciel up and the Phantomhive manor starts one of its usual days of work. While Sebastian manages the staff, Ciel talks to Damian about business. While discussing the two play a board game until Sebastian calls them out for dinner.

Damian and Ciel continue to play until Damian goes off to make a call. There, the truth of his arrival begins to unfold as he is trying to scam Ciel into giving him more resources even though he already sold his business. While going back to Ciel, he mistakes a painting for a ghost and tries to run away but breaks his leg instead.
Everything that happened in the game is now happening to Damian, every punishment, every incident, every disaster. Damian tries to run away but climbs into an oven where he is burnt alive. The episode then ends with Sebastian and Ciel having a casual conversation about Damian trying to pull off that scam.
Episode 7

This episode was entirely written by the author herself. This episode became a filler because it had differences from the events that happened in the manga. Ciel and Sebastian went on a vacation. This one is pretty common for fillers especially in Slice of Life anime, you know, the famous beach episode. There are also other scenes that happened that were not in the manga.
Well well, since it’s a beach episode you weebs were expecting cute anime girls in bikinis, didn’t you? Well sorry to pop the bubble but this ain’t no happy-go-lucky episode in Spongebob. The beach Ciel, Sebastian, and the rest of the Phantomhive staff went to is like a graveyard.

When they arrived, horror awaited them as this place is as depressing as a 7/11 at 2am in the morning. They eventually come across multiple disturbing scenes such as a woman telling of how her baby got eaten, and a tree with skulls and dog collars.
The Phantomhive party meets a beautiful maid and an abusive master. Things would’ve turned violent if Sebastian didn’t hold Ciel back. They then find out that there appears to be a Demon Dog in the village. Sebastian, Ciel, and the Phantomhive staff do their best to investigate this strange anomaly.
Episode 12

Episode 12 entitled His Butler, Forlorn mainly focuses on Drossel, one of the characters in the series. It aims to give more depth to Drossel as well as give more insight into his goals and desires. It’s safe to say that Black Butler doesn’t want anyone to get left behind. It’s rare to see anime series dedicating an entire episode to increase the lore behind a side character.
The episode kicks off with Ciel and Elizabeth Midford in a conversation. Puppets then start appearing in the Phantomhive manor but they are quickly subdued by Sebastian. While trying to escape Drossel says a creepy but mysterious line while Sebastian retreats with Ciel.
Ciel and Sebastian get into a small misunderstanding. The dolls were originally made by Elizabeth because she was feeling alone. They were stored in a tower and guarded by Drossel. After some time, Drossel reveals that he wants to be human and starts controlling Elizabeth. Ciel, Sebastian, and Drossel start fighting but who’ll become victorious in this struggle?
Episode 16

Episode 16 is sort of a repeat of Episode 14 but not really??? Well, they are similar but there are some changes from scene to scene. This Episode’s purpose was just to promote the upcoming Black Butler movie that aired a couple of years after the release of the Japanese Dubbed Episode.
This episode follows Ciel and Sebastian as they enter Ludlow Castle. After workers chose to abandon the renovation contract, the duo decided to investigate the matter. They found ghosts that scared the workers which forced them to leave. I mean, when you see ghosts, who wouldn’t run?

Ciel and Edward, one of the ghosts, decide to play chess where if Ciel wins Edward and his fellow ghost, Richard, have to leave while if Edward wins they get Sebastian. By using a trick up his sleeve, Edward wins and they get Sebastian. Ciel becomes a guest in the ghost’s castle and Sebastian serves both of them.
After a series of events, they discover that the ghosts only want to pass on and go to heaven. What will Ciel do? Will the ghosts ever go to heaven? Will Sebastian become their permanent butler? Where’s Danny Phantom? All of your questions will be answered when you watch this episode.
Episode 20

Of course, just like the others, Episode 20 is a filler episode. The Japanese Dub aired on February 27, 2008, while the English Dub was released in February 2011. The characters that appeared in this episode are Lau, Ran-Mao, Arthur Randall, Sebastian, Ciel, Fred, and Angela Blanc.
The plot of Episode 20 starts off with Sebastian being captured and tortured by Arthur Randall. On the other hand, Ciel is locked in a room with Fred Abberline where he wonders who is behind all this commotion. Who is the man behind the scenes?
Ciel is helped by Fred in finding the perpetrator. After some creepy encounters, a man mocks the Phantomhive name and in response, Ciel calls Sebastian. Sebastian murders all of Ciel’s targets. Will they ever find the man who pulls the strings?
Episode 24

Episode 24 is part of the Conspiracy and Revenge Arc. The Japanese Dub was released on March 27, 2008, and the English Dub premiered on February 11, 2011. The characters that appeared in this episode are Ciel, Sebastian, Ash Landers, Grelle Sutcliff, William T. Spears, and more.
Episode 24 follows Ciel and Sebastian riding a boat towards a place called Tower Bridge. As they were traveling, they saw human sacrifices for the so-called Angels. The duo then encounter Ash Landers and an exchange of words prompts Ciel to order Sebastian to kill Ash.
A fight breaks out and Ash manages to slice off one of Sebastian’s arms. Meanwhile, the Phantomhive staff kill Pluto. Ash goes berserk and unleashes a flurry of attacks towards Ciel and Sebastian. Sebastian turns into his Demon Form and manages to instantly eliminate Ash. A few new mysteries are uncovered and in the end, Sebastian consumes Ciel’s soul. Yes! You read this last line right, that’s why you should never skip the fillers as it also offers a lot of entertainment.
