But, we’re not talking about that on this blog. We’ll be discussing another serious issue and that is WHY BROLY HATES GOKU SOOOO DAMN MUCH??? This question is even more important than solving the world’s economic crises. Nah! Just kidding fam. But, seriously! Ya’ll must have thought about it as well, right? I know it was explained in the movie as to why he hated him. But, there is much more to it than we think.

BROLY’S HATRED TOWARDS GOKU!!

Broly’s Backstory

Broly back

Before getting to the main point, let’s just talk about Broly. First of all, what is a Legendary Super Saiyan? A legendary super saiyan is someone who has immense potential. The potential to overcome any other saiyan in existence. He is regarded as the STRONGEST SAIYAN!!! If we talk about Broly, his power level was already 10000 when he was born. On the other hand, Goku had a power level of just 2! Kinda hilarious ngl.

Broly was born as the son of Paragus. Paragus was an average Saiyan with an average power level. However, his son was born with a power level of 10000. The strongest saiyan at that time, King Vegeta, had a power level of 25000. And it wouldn’t have taken much time for Broly to overcome him.

King Vegeta was afraid that Paragus and Broly would try to take over the throne. Sooo, he decided to get them executed. The execution, however, was a failure and both of them somehow survived. Now, there are two pathways from her. In the non-canon movie, Broly and Paragus escaped to a planet with a population. However, in the canon movie, King Vegeta never tried to execute them. He sent them to a faraway planet, hoping that they’ll die a slow death.

With this, they managed to survive Planet Vegeta’s destruction as well.

Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan Synopsis

Synopsis

This movie aired back in 1993. The main plot of this movie revolves around Broly. Vegeta was persuaded by some of the surviving Saiyan including Paragus to visit their new Planet Vegeta and rule over it. Knowing Vegeta, he was more than happy to become the King of Saiyans.

However, Paragus had ulterior motives. He wanted to take revenge against King Vegeta using his son Broly. Now, I won’t spoil the whole movie.

Why Broly Hates Goku?

Crying

According to the movie, Broly hates Goku because he distubed his sleep when they were still babies. Goku and Broly were born at the same time and were kept in the same nursing room. All the other babies were quiet, except Goku, as he was crying. This disturbed Broly’s nap. This marked the beginning of Broly’s hatred for Goku. (Dragon Ball Z: Broly- The Legendary Super Saiyan 1993)

Well! This reason is not valid enough. There are some deeper aspects as well and we’ll discuss them here. As we all know, Saiyans are a warrior race. They are born to fight and conquer. There is no place for the weak among Saiyans. They don’t even care about potential. All that matters is your power level.

They are divided into classes based on their power levels when they were born. Broly was obviously in a higher class as compared to Goku and other Saiyans. There is another thing, Saiyans are born with the instinct of being superior to the ones having lower power levels. Soooo, Broly already knew that he was superior to Goku.

King Vegeta

How is this related to him hating Goku tho? When facing a Saiyan with a higher class/power level, you are bound to respect him. Goku’s crying clearly implied that he doesn’t respect Broly. This made Broly angry.

Broly’s childhood was pretty traumatic as well. He almost got executed and had to relocate to a new planet. His father, Paragus, wanted to control him as he thought that he was too dangerous to be left uncontrolled. Broly always had a weird necklace around his neck, using which Paragus controlled him. And ofc Broly hated it!! He was made to do things against his will.

And guess what? He put the blame for all this on Goku. According of thim, if Goku wasn’t crying that day, his life would have been much better. He kept this hatred inside his heart for many years until he saw Goku/Kakarott once again. His anger and hatred just exploded.

He hated Vegeta as well because he was brainwashed by his father to do so. However, it was not as severe as his hatred for Goku. Why? Because Vegeta respected him after sensing his power. However, Goku didn’t.

Broly basically wanted to kill Goku to show him what he’s capable of. He wanted to regain his lost respect and put the WEAKER saiyans back to their place. Killing Goku would’ve become his salvage from all the suffering.

Broly’s Hatred For Goku in Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Frieza

Dragon Ball Super: Broly aired back in 2018. Broly was introduced as a canon character in this movie. Akira Toriyama, himself, wrote the script for this one. Well! He had no hand in the previous Broly movies.

Akira considerably altered Broly’s past in this movie. According to this movie, Broly was never intended to be executed by King Vegeta. The basic plot is the same as the previous movies. King Vegeta feared that Broly, being the Legendary Super Saiyan, would ultimately dethrone him. Soo, he decided to send them to a faraway planet to die a slow and agonizing death. However, little did he know that they’ll somehow survive.

Paragus

Paragus’ hatred for King Vegeta and the royal family was intense. He wanted to kill them so badly that he’d do anything. He trained Broly to be a warrior. Frieza plays a huge role in this movie. After realizing that Broly is the legendary super saiyan, he offers Paragus help by giving away Vegeta’s location.

Broly is portrayed to be a nice guy in this movie. However, he was brainwashed by his father to hate Vegeta. Following his father’s orders, he attacked Vegeta first. He had no intention of fighting Goku.

Now, this is where the fun begins. When Frieza saw that Broly was getting his ass beaten up by Goku’s super saiyan Blue form, he KILLED PARAGUS!!!! And told Broly that his father was killed by a stray energy blast. Seeing his only family member dead, Broly loses his mind which allows him to reach his Legendary Super Saiyan form and ultimately overpower both Goku and Vegeta in this form. They had to combine in order to defeat him. GOGETA THE GOAT!!!!

Gogeta

Broly initially didn’t hate Goku in this canon movie. However, after his fathers death, his rage forced him to believe that Goku had killed him and he started hating him.

Nevertheless, Goku and Broly did make up in the end and became good friends. They even train together at Beerus’ planet. (Dragon Ball Super: Broly 2018)

Basically, Frieza was the one who forced Broly to hate Goku in this movie. Broly, however, gave him a good beating in his rage form. He deserved it!

Sooo, this concludes the blog fellas. Now that Broly is canon, we’ll see him in future movies as well. Some fans still say that the OG Broly was the best. He was literally a BEAST!!!

He didn’t give a F* about others. All he wanted to do was to kill Goku and prove his superiority
