While the concepts of these two anime might be highly different, we’re still going to compare and find out which anime is overpowered! (actually, when you think of it, both of them are!)

Haikyuu has its own charms when it comes to the concepts of achieving your dreams and working hard for them. On the other hand, Blue Lock is a bit realistic as it gives out the message of a cruel world and the selfish people living in it.
Both of these anime are sports anime with many interesting characters along with intense battles in their respective sports!
Anyways, it’s finally time to talk about these two anime in detail! So, Without further ado, let’s jump right into it!
HAIKYUU VS. BLUE LOCK!
Haikyuu!!
Haikyuu!! Literally means “Volleyball” in Japanese, this anime was illustrated by Haruchi Furudate and premiered in September 2014. This anime tells us the story of Shoyo Hinata who’s a short yet determined boy! He dreams big of becoming a great volleyball player!
No one can ever deny that this anime existed long before Blue Lock, and no wonder it has such a huge fanbase. There’s just something very addictive about this anime. Haikyuu is an intense anime that will get your heart pumping with each of its volleyball matches. You can never predict what’s going to happen during a match since each player is fighting a battle aside from the court, there are also individual challenges that they face.
Speaking of the plot, let me take you back to the good old days! The plot revolves around Shoyo Hinata who gets obsessed with the idea of volleyball right after seeing the players of Karasuno High playing on a television. Hinata gets quite intrigued after hearing the nickname of Karasuno High’s little wing spiker “The Little Giant”.
Although Hinata is inexperienced, he’s very athletic and thinks of joining his school’s volleyball club! Hinata is literally one of the BEST anime characters with orange hair! His personality will win anyone’s heart and it goes really well with his appearance!
As he joined the club, he was forced to make other players,which are also his friends, learn about volleyball and practice with him every time they did have some spare time. Since Hinata tried to persuade everyone, he came off as one of the most annoying members of the club. But our boy had other plans and dreamt of becoming the very best player. And he is so lucky to have very supportive friends.
When it was finally time to play their official match, Hinata got defeated by the “King of the Court” who was none other than Kageyama. Kageyama was a prodigy setter who had an experience when playing volleyball in a known middle school in their prefecture, it was that time when Hinata became determined to defeat him in high school! Eventually, he became one of the BEST players in Haikyuu!
Thus Hinata started playing volleyball and studied hard too. Later on, he was accepted in Karasuno High School but was shocked to see Tobio Kageyama there too! As a result, a whole new journey starts! Together, they learn to push their limits and work hard for everyone’s sake and their own dreams as well! So, just like that, they take on too many challenges and defeat many teams on their way as well!
Haikyuu is an interesting anime that teaches us about teamwork rather than the development of characters on an individual level! It has a beautiful message of sheer determination and winning together instead of selfish purposes in life. So, fans absolutely love Haikyuu for these things!

Blue Lock
Blue Lock is one of the latest sports anime that premiered in October 2022. Fans are going crazy over how cool the characters are and how the plot is so intense! This anime tells us about Japan’s crushing defeat in Football and now the Union wants to regroup the Japanese football team in order to win the World Cup in the future!
The Japanese Football Union gathers a total of 300 players in a project called “Blue Lock Project” where the main goal is to lead the football team of Japan and make it better! They also want to raise the best striker in the whole world. Those who fail in this project will never be able to participate in any of the Japanese Football Teams! So, it’s do-or-die for them!

The concept of Blue Lock is more focused on surviving! It’s not about teamwork as much as Haikyuu. Sure, we can see some of the players doing great teamwork but they’ll eventually have to stomp on each other to go all the way up and become the best striker in the world!
The story overall revolves around Yoichi Isagi who’s an unknown high school football player who isn’t sure of his own playing style and joins the Blue Lock Project in order to know about his style as well as to become the best egotistical striker in the whole world!
There are tons of interesting characters in this anime and all of them have their own playing styles. For instance, some players have a hidden monster in them while others have fast reflexes. So, in the field of football, such skills are highly required! With each football match, your heart is going to race more & more. Both of the anime are so good that it’s becoming hard to compare them! Well, we have to do what we have to do! So, let’s compare them now!
Can Blue Lock Replace Haikyuu?
I know this discussion is going to start a war between the fans of Haikyuu and Blue Lock. Haikyuu is a good anime at its place and the same goes for Blue Lock! Both are quite good and have their own concepts when it comes to their respective sports!
Haikyuu is an amazing sports anime because of various reasons like slice-of-life concepts, some romance, and comedic scenes as well. So, it’s a perfect blend of almost every genre! While Blue Lock solely focuses on football and how to be the best striker in the world, the comedy is really light in it. Blue Lock is a serious anime with diverse characters and of course, intense football matchesl! It would be unfair to compare both of these anime because the sports that they play are completely different from one another and their views about their sports are different as well. But overall, both of the anime are fire!
Animation Styles
For Haikyuu, Sentai Filmworks did a really good job at animating the smooth action during the intense volleyball matches to the extent of giving you a real-time experience! It’s definitely important for sports anime to have a top-tier animation that expresses their action, right? So, Sentai Filmworks along with other studios did a great job! Haikyuu’s characters have two types of features, they have crackhead animation whenever the anime is in comedic mode and the other one has handsome features.
For Blue Lock’s animation, 8bit was responsible and it surely did an awesome job too! From the artistic point of view as well as the flowy animation! The characters are handsome and their individual features are super cool, they’re almost like idols at this point, right?
Overall, both of the series are animated well and their action gets expressed perfectly through the smooth animation. Most sports anime are known to have good animation, for instance, we have Haikyuu, Blue Lock, Free, Sk8 The Infinity, etc.
Since Blue Lock is a new anime, we still don’t know where it will go in the future or about its true potential. Its animation might get better and better! So, let’s see what happens in the future!
Reasons Why Haikyuu is Popular
Haikyuu is a sports anime revolving around volleyball sport and it has been relevant for so long that anime beginners can easily binge-watch this anime and fall in love with it. This anime is considered one of the best sports anime because of its story, characters, OSTs, and animation!
The characters are very wholesome in Haikyuu as well. For instance, our Main Character, Shoyo Hinata is precious for aiming too high despite having a small stature, his never-giving-up attitude motivates everyone to work harder and push through their own limits. Then, we have Kageyama who’s completely the opposite of Hinata and isn’t very expressive. Together, both of them look so cute and their partnership has inspired a lot of Volleyball players and friends around the world. This is the impact this anime has on the world!
Reasons Why Blue Lock is Popular
Blue Lock is known for its intense manga but as soon as its anime arrived, it got even more hyped up! Blue Lock tells us the concept of egotistical strikers and players whose only focus is to win. There isn’t much teamwork or the concept of friendship in Blue Lock as much as in Haikyuu but it does its job perfectly at serving as a sports anime!
Blue Lock tells us the story of a mastermind named Jinpachi Ego who’s manipulating 300 players and raising them as the best strikers to eventually make Japan win the World Cup after intense defeats! So, the players are always under pressure, their careers and lives depend on the Blue Lock Project! But these are the things that make this anime stand out from the rest of the sports anime. Of course, teamwork and the power of friendship alongside regular National Matches are appreciated but Blue Lock brings us something completely different from your typical sports anime. That is the reason why Blue Lock is so popular these days!

After successfully accusing Naofumi of sexually assaulting her, she made his life miserable and he ended up being a target of everyone’s hate. Malty does not possess impressive physical strength and just uses tricks and magic to get what she wants. Although, she carries a sword but never really uses it. She can only use low-level magic and specializes in fire-type magic. We also see her being able to use a bit of air-magic occasionally. Malty is the weakest character in the world of The Rising of the Shield Hero. 17. Melty Q. Meromarc Unlike her sister, Melty is more polite and kind towards commoners and demi-humans. She does not abuse the power of her being nobility and treats everyone equally. That’s what we exactly expect from royalty! Thanks to her elder sister’s personality issues, she’s second in line to become the Queen of Melromarc. Melty specializes in water magic and is also a low-level magic-user. But her great diplomatic skills make her a little stronger than her sister so we gotta give her that! 16. Elrasla Grilaroc Elrasla Grilaroc is an old woman who serves as a combat instructor in the Rock Valley and is the sole successor of the Hengen Musou style of martial arts. Despite her old age, we see her full of energy and wisdom. A fighter without a peer, Elrasla has great mastery of energy and ki that make her a tough opponent for some. She’s able to boost her physical strength by simply flowing her ki throughout her body and all of it happens dramatically! Elrasla can transform anything into a lethal weapon she gets her hands on which definitely makes her a formidable opponent! 15. Bio Plant An experiment gone wrong, Bio Plant was originally a seed that was planted by Naofumi, producing juicy tomato-like fruits. However, the plant ended up producing dangerous subspecies because of some mutation as well as its high intelligence. The two subspecies it produced were Plant Riwe and Madoragora. Plant Riwe had a lot of vines and a large flower growing from its head. This humanoid creature released poisonous clouds when in threat. The other subspecies that Bio Plant produced was Madoragora that resembled a large pitcher plant. It released acid from its vines, entrapping its target and eating it alive. Both these humanoid creatures gave Naofumi and his team a tough time! 14. Zombie Dragon Zombie Dragon was originally the Dragon Emperor and the father of Wyndia (the slave bought by Naofumi). The Dragon Emperor was killed wrongfully by Ren Amaki but we can’t really blame him because he was tricked into killing it by the greedy villagers. Ren left the corpse of the dragon to rot there and it transformed into a zombie, spreading disease everywhere in the village. The Dragon corpse gained its immense power from the hatred and betrayal and caused havoc everywhere. It was extremely strong and released poisonous gases from its mouth. Having regenerative powers, the Zombie Dragon was a tough opponent for Naofumi and his party. 13. Itsuki Kawasumi One of the four legendary heroes, Itsuki Kawasumi was summoned as a Bow Hero from another hero along with other heroes. Being bullied as a child left him yearning for praise and feeling superior to others. In the beginning, he was all about justice and equality. However, after some time, he ended up becoming just like others, selfish to the core! When it comes to strength and abilities, Itsuki is pretty strong but still the weakest of the four heroes (Except Naofumi in the start). He uses the bow on his opponents and can easily take them out with it. The bow offers a number of offensive attacks like shooting stars and thunder from his arrow. 12. Ren Amaki The Sword Hero, Ren Amaki is the only character who does not believe in treating Naofumi like shit unlike other heroes and everybody in the Capital. Though, he was unable to get all chummy with Naofumi because of his personality issues. Ren possesses the Holy Sword that chose him as its wielder. The sword can cut through anything and everything because of how sharp it is! Other than using the Sword, Ren possesses some mastery in water and supports magic. After getting deceived by Malty, he unlocked the curse of Greed and Gluttony that made him go haywire. He was definitely unbeatable in that state! 11. Motoyasu Kitamura The worst of all four heroes, Motoyasu Kitamura is the legendary Spear Hero that was summoned from another world along with the three other heroes. Being extremely gullible and naive made him take the worst decision and he ended up causing a lot of trouble, especially for Naofumi. He’s delusional to the core and acts high and mighty all the time. Malty was able to fool him easily because of his superficial personality. In short, Malty had him wrapped around her little finger. In terms of power levels, Motoyasu easily surpasses the three heroes (Initially). He possesses the legendary spear that holds a lot of combat power and can easily defeat Motoyasu’s targets. His spear is able to split up into multiple spears when thrown in the direction of its target. Motoyasu in his cursed mode is definitely not easy to deal with. He unlocked that curse of lust that boosted his physical powers and made him go berserk! 10. Biscas T. Balmus The leader of the Church of the Three Heroes, Biscas T. Balmus is one of the major antagonists and another character that we’d like to punch in the face. He’s second only to Malty in terms of being despicable! He hides behind the facade of being kind-hearted and just but Naofumi was able to see through his lies and figured out his twisted personality (A god complex basically). Biscas T. Balmus possessed a replica of all four legendary weapons that our heroes possessed. The powers of all the weapons were boosted when Balmas used them on the heroes. Other than the weapons, he had the accumulated powers of his blind and staunch believers who were even ready to sacrifice their lives for him. He was definitely one of the most formidable enemies that our heroes came across! 9. Raphtalia The extremely lovable main heroine of the anime, Raphtalia has a great affinity towards Naofumi because he freed her and saved her life. She used to be a fearful and shy girl initially but Naofumi gradually transformed her into a strong-willed woman and raised her like her own daughter. But little does he know our adorable heroine has feelings for him! Raphtalia acts as Naofumi’s sword and is true to her name. She’s great at wielding a sword and is also able to use light and dark magic. Initially, she’s not very strong but gradually, she learns a number of tricks as well as masters Hengan Muso under Elrasala’s guidance. Just like Raphtalia, Filo is extremely loyal to his master and acts as his strength. In her human form, Filo is no more than a spoiled brat who won’t listen to Naofumi unless she’s fed and pampered properly. We also see her developing a friendship with the second princess, Melty Q Melromarc. Filo is extremely reliable when it comes to actual physical combat and is pretty strong. Nobody can match her speed and agility. A swift learner, Filo is able to learn magic spells as well as different tricks in no time! Filo specializes in wind magic and can control the wind, creating typhoons and tornadoes that are pretty powerful! 7. Mirelia Q. Melromarc Everyone’s favorite character from this anime, Mirelia Q Melromarc is the Queen of Melromarc and the mother of Malty and Melty. She’s the definition of grace and justice and unlike his husband, she’s very kind to everyone. she’s got the beauty and the brains- A COMPLETE PACKAGE! Mirelia is a proficient magic user and formerly served as a strategist for the allied army. Her magic is quite overpowered as she single handedly defeated Biscas T Balmus who even possessed the replica of all the legendary weapons. Her magic powers are definitely not to be underestimated coupled with her smart brain! 6. Therese Alexandrite Therese Alexandrite is the companion of the Scythe Hero, L’Arc Berg Sickle, and travels with him to different places. She’s the true definition of courteous and graceful as she carries herself with grace. She’s quite shy and serious in comparison to L’Arc. She’s said to be a jewel and is very fond of them. She cares deeply about their feelings and gets excited when she comes across new gems. We see her obtaining powerful magic from different gems and using it against her enemies and can take them out in no time. She’s also physically very strong as she was able to carry drunken L’Arc all by herself! 5. L'Arc Berg Sickle The wielder of the Vessel Scythe, L’Arc Berg is a King from the other world beyond the wave. We see him fooling around and being carefree despite being an actual king of a country. Naofumi sees him as a brother figure because of his character and approach towards others. His scythe holds an immense amount of energy that can cut anything in half in no time. Other than using his scythe, L’Arc is also able to use wind magic and is also very proficient in it. We’ve seen him blowing away his enemies with a single flick of the wrist by creating a powerful tornado. 4. Tyrant Dragon Rex Sealed by the previous Legendary heroes, Tyrant Dragon Rex was a terrific monster that they could defeat even when working together. It was instead sealed away by the heroes inside a sealing stone (Phew!). The sealing stone was being carefully watched over by the nobility generation after generation. Idol Rabier was the one who broke the seal and let the Dragon go haywire and cause havoc everywhere. There was no chance that our heroes would be able to defeat such a terrifying thing. However, with the brains of Naofumi and the help of the great Queen Fitoria, they were able to defeat the Tyrant Dragon Rex. Naofumi and the team found themselves in a bit of a pickle with this one. 3. Glass Glass is a vassal wielder from another world and belongs to the race of spirit people. She has an intimidating aura that made the four heroes feel threatened and shaken (Even Naofumi). She comes from another world with the mission of killing the four heroes to save the heroes from her own world and is quite serious about it. She possesses exceptional power that is equal to the seven-star heroes and is the vassal of the fan. She extracts her power from the soul Power of the Spirit people. The more the Soul Power, the more strong she is. She definitely makes a formidable opponent and we’ll surely see more of her in the new season! 2. Naofumi The protagonist and an outcast of the anime, Naofumi is one of the four Legendary Heroes, possessing the Holy Shield. After being wrongfully accused of sexual assault by Malty, he had to start everything from scratch and made his way up to the top. Naofumi used to be a positive person before getting wrongfully accused. He grew extremely spiteful of the world afterward and had trouble trusting anyone. But with the help of Raphtalia and Filo, he was able to regain some of his humanity and the trio became extremely strong together. Unfortunately, Naofumi did not possess any special ability or ever physical proficiency to be in any kind of battle. But with the help of Raphtalia and Filo, he was able to unlock a massive number of skills and learned different abilities that made him stand tall amongst the other heroes. The Holy Shield he possessed grew stronger and stronger gradually and was not only used for defense but also for offense. Naofumi’s curse mode is extremely dangerous for his enemies and even his team members as he’s not able to control it well. Naofumi is definitely one of the strongest characters of this anime! 1. Fitoria Fitoria is the Queen of all Filolials and is a hidden seven-star hero. She’s actually supposed to be the carriage hero and lives in isolation in a forest. Though she interacts with the heroes, she’s indifferent towards most people because of her trust issues. According to Naofumi, she’s just like Filo, a brat who loves eating. Her human form might look weak and feeble but she’s the strongest of all the characters in The Rising of The Shield Hero. She shows a lot of transformations from the size of a normal filolial to the size of a huge building! She has lived many centuries and possesses ancient knowledge about most things. Her magic is extremely powerful. She was able to take out the Tyrant Dragon Rex all by herself without even breaking a sweat. That’s how powerful she is! Conclusion The Rising of the Shield Hero has a set of versatile characters with unique powers with the potential of surpassing each other with every battle they fight! The monsters and spirits in this anime are also extremely overpowered to the point where they leave the heroes in a pickle. Gaku Ki Gaku Ki was a general in Yan after former Qi was invaded by the 1st allied forces known as “Military God”. Gaku Ki is a huge and handsome man. He has a long beard and wears a regular coat. Little is known about his scholarship at this point, but he seems to have a calm personality, as it's okay for Geki Shinto to steal the path of war. 17. Chou Tou Chou Tou is a great general from Qin County. He fights with the Wei Army and the Han Ding Half Army Kanki and Mou Gou, guarding the Kankoku PassGate and wearing appropriate armor and powerful warrior costumes for the general. With his tall mustache and beard, Chou Tou is a serious and loyal person, demonstrating his loyalty to his country. As an experienced warrior, he showed an insulting attitude until his death. He respected his people, showed the same complete respect and admiration as Kanki for those who had been cruelly tested before, and even asked her. He said he hated the 6th General of Qin County. On the other hand, he was completely loyal to the state of Qin and was angry when Kan Ki insulted his notion of patriotism. 16. Man Goku of Assault Man Goku is General Zhao and his specialty is aggression. He was the commander of Man Goku Army, considered a natural enemy of Qin, and the only person Kanyou City had to avoid. Man Goku was a tall man with white hair and bright red eyes. He has a fine mustache and impressive teeth. Under his armor was a deceptive muscular physique that rejected thin scaffolding. Man Goku has an enthusiastic hatred for the state of Qin. He brutally killed his citizens and committed a lot of atrocities. During Zhao's strategic meeting, he was noticeably silent and had little help in planning the actual campaign. When Son Goku also called him a "sama" in honor, he paid a lot of respect to Hou Ken. 15. Gaku Ei Gaku Ei is the general of Zhao's army and Kei Sha's right arm. Gaku Ei wears a feather helmet with two long horns that extend sideways. His armor also differed from that of the shogun in that he had two long shoulder shields on each side. There was also Super X in the middle of his armor. He also has a long beard. 14. Gyou’un Gyou'Un's name did not spread throughout Zhao, but he fought hard in most of his work, so he was still one of the most powerful of his leaders. Yes, from how Shane compares his impressive strength directly to the Fire Dragon Gaimou, Gunei is "inhuman strength" to defeat Ouhon on the board, despite injuring him. Described him as a man with, Gyou'Un who is one of the stronger anime and my favorite characters on this list. 13.
