Ever wondered where Rudeus got his naughty side from? Of course, we all know he was born with it but let’s just say that it also runs in his blood. Paul Greyrat is the father of Rudeus, Norn, and Aisha Greyrat. He’s a ladies’ man and let’s just say his control isn’t that great. But never forget that this guy is a rather powerful swordsman, he doesn’t just hit his pick-up lines, but he can hit you with the force of a truck. Let’s get to know more about the Naught Senior, Paul Notos Greyrat.

I mean come on, if you want to get the ladies, you gotta have a lot of sigma male energy and my goodness does Paul Greyrat look like a mega chad. He has a couple of appearances throughout the series but the only things that change are his outfits and his facial expressions.

At the beginning of Mushoku Tensei, Paul is shown to have a well-built body as expected from an adventurer. He has brownish hair which is short at the front and top but is rather long in the back. He styles it in a ponytail and lets it sit on one side of his shoulders (Mushoku Tensei Anime: Episode 1). He wore a standard villagers outfit that included a plain white shirt, brown pants, and leather boots.
However, on the cover of one of the volumes of the Mushoku Tensei Light Novel, he was seen wearing an adventurer’s outfit that involved a grass green cloak, a chest plate, bracers, and metal boots. He also wore gloves, a white short-sleeved shirt, and light-colored trousers. He lets his sword rest on his side as well (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1 Cover).
When he and Rudeus reunited, he was seen wearing a more rugged version of his adventurer’s outfit. This time he wore a black shirt, a dark cape, and had lower grade equipment. Paul also looked a lot more depressed than when Rudeus last saw him. His beard wasn’t shaved, his eyes looked dead, and he let his hair grow out (Mushoku Tensei Manga: Chapter 35).

If you haven’t already guessed by now, Paul is just like Rudeus. Paul, before being married to Zenith, used to sleep with almost every girl he encountered. Ghislaine even mentioned that Paul was in bed with her (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1). Not only that, but Paul, even after getting married to Zenith, cheated on her with Lilia (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel Volume 1). This guy just can’t seem to give it a break. It was only because of the intervention of Rudeus that Zenith agreed that Lilia would stay in their household.
The answer is no! I know you’re wondering that Paul’s personality revolves around him being a goof and sleeping with a lot of girls. Well, at least that’s only 70% of his character. Paul is also hot-headed, especially after the Teleportation Incident. After Rudeus and Dead End arrived at Millis, Paul fought with Rudeus because he didn’t even think about what Rudeus had to go through the Demon Continent (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5). This also happened when Rudeus was just a kid where Paul slapped him when a kid’s mother told him that Rudeus bullied her son, even though he just saved Sylphiette (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel Volume 1).
However, Paul isn’t all bad. He’s a loving father and would do anything to protect and save his family. One of the reasons why he got so angry at Rudeus was that he thought Rudeus didn’t even try to look for Zenith, Lilia, and Aisha (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5). He also knows that he still has some improvement when it comes to being a father. In the same incident where he reprimanded Rudeus without even letting him say his side of the story and after their argument, he became the bigger man and apologized first (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1 & 5).
Paul is also a very caring man. He would never want anyone to get hurt even if they are complete strangers and he even led the Fittoa Search Group to look for any survivors after the Teleportation Incident (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5). Paul is a just and strong-hearted adventurer which is one of the reasons he easily became friends with Ruijerd.

Paul was once the leader of an S-rank Adventurer Party known as the Fangs of the Black Wolf. Although they did disband because of him, it doesn’t take out the fact that the man did have some leadership skills. Paul himself is also an S-rank Adventurer and was famous for his being one of the best swordsmen in the region. (Mushoku Tensei Anime: Episode 6).
Not only is Paul an S-rank adventurer but he also holds the title of an Advanced user in all three Sword Styles. Being proficient in one is considered amazing but being Advanced in all three is quite a big achievement. Because of this, Paul got a bit of a good reputation, especially from Veteran Adventurers.
Last but not least, Paul’s real name is actually Paul Notos Greyrat. He is the brother of Pilemon Notos Greyrat and a member of the Notos Greyrat Noble Family. The Notos Greyrats are one of the more prominent characters in the kingdom of Asura (Mushoku Tensei Manga: Chapter 38). If Paul hadn’t become rebellious and left the Notos Greyrat family, he would’ve had significant political influence as well.
Swordsmanship
As mentioned before, Paul is Advanced-level in all three Sword Styles. These include the Sword God Style which focuses on speed and one-hit strikes, the Water God Style which focuses on defensive techniques, and the North God Style which is more lenient towards using your environment and having tricks up your sleeves.
When Rudeus was just a kid, Paul managed to beat him even though he was already a Water-Saint Magician (Mushoku Tensei: Anime Episode 4). Even during his and Rudeus’ fight in Millis, he may have had a hard time but he was able to slash Rudeus’ mask in half even though he was stuck in Rudeus’ Quagmire (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5). This just goes to show how powerful and diverse Paul’s technique is when it comes to wielding the blade.

- Before Zenith married Paul and ended his reign of sleeping with every woman he saw, he had affairs with Elinalise and Ghislaine.
- There is another story within Mushoku Tensei called Paul Gaiden which depicts Paul’s backstory.
- Zenith and Paul are a match made in heaven since both of them ran away from their homes and threw away their Royal Status.
- To earn the rank of knight and have a position as the caretaker of Buena Village, Paul begged Philip Boreas Greyrat for help. This happened before Rudeus was born.
- Paul was such a bad father that Rudeus was the one who convinced Zenith to make Lilia stay after Paul got both of them pregnant (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1).

Past/Background
As a child, Paul was expected to become a man worthy of being a noble of the Notos Greyrat Family. However, as you probably have guessed Paul’s just a dirty old guy. He was even a dirty baby where he loudly expressed his love for women (Mushoku Tensei Paul Gaiden: Episode 2). After some time, had a fight with his father, left the Notos Greyrat household, and abandoned his noble name.
At the age of 12, Paul already rebelled and left his home. He would eventually meet Lilia in a dojo and that’s where they both first met. After some time had passed, Paul had formed the Fangs of the Black Wolf. He met Zenith when she was being surrounded by thugs, saved her, and offered her to join his party. One night, Paul found himself in bed with Zenith. Zenith got pregnant, Paul married her, the Fangs of the Black Wolf, and the rest as they say…is history (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1 Extra Chapter: The Mother of the Greyrat Family).

As mentioned before Paul was a member of the Fangs of the Black Wolf. They consisted of S-rank adventurers and were disbanded because Zenith and Paul got married (Mushoku Tensei Anime: Episode 6). The Fangs of the Black Wolf consisted of Elinalise Dragonroad, Tallhand, Geese, Zenith, Ghislaine, and Paul himself.

Tallhand was the magician of the party and is a dwarf clad in black armor. He was positioned in the middle of the formation and he also had a long beard that he styled with metal bracers.
Geese
Geese is the guy that can do everything at the party. He’s not good at fighting but he can steal, cook, and find resources. He was basically their go-to guy for survival and just daily living in general.
Elinalise Dragonroad
Elinalise Dragonroad is an elf and the front guard of the party. She’s a warrior and is very proficient at using her sword and shield. She also helped Rudeus in getting to Ranoa Magic University and so on.
Ghislaine Dedoldia
Ghislaine Dedoldia is another sword user in the Fangs of the Black Wolf. She is actually much stronger than Paul and has the rank of Sword King in the Sword God Style. She’s from the beast race and has noble blood.

Zenith Greyrat
Zenith Greyrat is Paul’s first wife and is Rudeus and Norn Greyrat’s mother. She was also a member of the Fangs of the Black Wolf and is very proficient in healing and detoxification magic.
Lilia Greyrat
Lilia used to be the Greyrat household’s maid but you know what happened. She became Paul’s second wife and is the mother of Aisha Greyrat. She’s very dedicated to her work and values her family immensely.
Norn Greyrat
Norn Greyrat is a bit different from the other members of her family. To say the least, she’s the only one that’s “Normal”. She’s a bit shy and reserved about her feelings. Although she is quite fond of Ruijerd.
Aisha Greyrat
Aisha Greyrat was born in the same year as Norn. She doesn’t get along with her sister but she’s actually a genius. At such a young age, she can help in negotiations and can do almost any task she is given.
Rudeus Greyrat
Rudeus is the main protagonist of Mushoku Tensei. As much as the two fight, they have a strong bond and Rudeus doesn’t want to lose his relationship with Paul as much as Paul doesn’t want Rudeus to leave him. They fight and makeup like an old couple.
Plot
Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1 Infancy Period
As Rudeus was born into the world, he saw this young man and woman. This is where we get introduced to Paul and Zenith Greyrat. As Rudeus was growing up, Paul decided that he should be a swordsman since he was a boy. But we all know how things went down. Rudeus became a prodigy in magic but that didn’t stop Paul from teaching him swordplay (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1).
Paul and Zenith eventually had an agreement that Rudeus would have lessons in Magic in the morning and would practice the sword in the afternoon. After some time, Paul had an affair with Lilia and she became pregnant. Luckily, Rudeus saved the day and that became the day where Paul was a dad of three kids (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 1).
Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 2 Juvenile Period
Rudeus was getting nowhere with his sword lessons and he never wanted to leave Buena Village because of Sylphie. So Paul, as a good father, knocked him out and sent him to the Boreas Greyrat household where Rudeus taught Eris Boreas Greyrat and Ghislaine Dedoldia Magic (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 2).
Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5 Juvenile Period
Then the Teleportation Incident happened. Luckily, Paul was holding Norn before it happened and Lilia was holding Aisha. Paul and Norn were sent to a random field and they eventually returned to Fittoa only to realize nothing was left. Paul formed the Fittoa Search Party and tried to locate survivors of Buena Village and his family. (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5).
As time passed on, more reports of dead people from Buena Village started to pop up. This took a huge toll on Paul’s mental state and confidence. He constantly had nightmares of his entire family being massacred. Until one fateful day, a young boy who could use voiceless incantations started fighting his party. After a brief confrontation, Paul managed to unmask him and it turned out to be Rudeus (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5).
The two of them had a brief argument about why Rudeus never went on to search for Zenith, Lilia, and Aisha. They exchanged fists but ultimately made up. As things started to calm down, he bid farewell to Rudeus as Rudeus had to bring Eris back to Fittoa (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 5).
Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 13 Youth Period
The next time we saw Paul was when Rudeus helped him rescue Zenith in a labyrinth in the Begaritt Continent. They first saved Roxy from a trap and eventually reached Zenith. There they found a Hydra, one of the most powerful monsters in the Six-Faced World, and was immune to Magic. As the battle ended, the Hydra went berserk and threw its last attack. Paul, in a last ditch effort to save Rudeus, pushed him away and took most of the damage (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 13).
As the Hydra drew its last breath, so did Paul. Rudeus lost his left hand but at least he was alive while Paul lost his entire lower body. As Paul’s life started to fade away, he looked at Rudeus who was in shock and had tears flowing out his eyes. Paul didn’t say a word, he just looked at his son and smiled in relief as his story came to an end. Paul Greyrat may have been a bad father at some points of the series, but he never hesitated to give his own life for his family (Mushoku Tensei Light Novel: Volume 13).
