When we are talking about unique anime and the character with unique abilities, the first thing that comes to mind is the absurd and hilariously unthinkable abilities that some anime characters may have. But it’s not just that. Powers and Abilities are different.

While supernatural anime has become somewhat of a common theme in today’s anime industry, there are times when you see an anime character with abilities that are out of the ordinary and most of the time, VERY OVERPOWERED.

We have also seen different anime copying unique abilities and creating almost identical characters. But out of the hundreds and thousands of choices today, we are going to talk about 26 anime characters who have unique, weird, or creative abilities. Let’s start the countdown.

26. Levy McGarden (Fairy Tail)

No, this isn’t Levy from Attack on Titan. This is the cuter Levi from Fairy Tail. Levy is a supporting character from Fairy Tail and her unique ability is that anything she writes with magic will form into reality. (Please don’t have lewd thoughts now)

I should give a better explanation as she cannot just write death and someone dies. Her power is called Solid Script Magic. Any word she writes can take that form and come into reality. But she can write WAIFU pillow and that’ll come into existence though!

For example, if she writes Iron, then the word iron will be formed, if she writes explosion then the word explosion will explode. I think that gives you an idea of her power limits.

Levi, even though having limited power, could have used it in a more destructive way but she doesn’t do that (Unless you hurt her man, Gajeel). She could simply write nuclear bomb and you know what would happen then. The mangaka keeps her as a supportive character and she seems to like staying that way.

25. Sailor Mars (Sailor Moon)

Well, I never thought I’d do this but here we are. I’m putting a magical girl on a list. Originally named Rei Hino, Sailor Mars is a woman with beautiful hair and purple eyes. Despite being a shrine priestess, she wanted to be a singer and model when she grew up. Now, that’s cute.

Her unique ability is fire soul. Similar to other fire ability users, her fire soul can easily wound opponents and her soul bird is more of an AOE fire attack. Besides that, she has the Burning Mandala and Mars Flame Sniper in her arsenal.

She can snipe enemies with her fire sniper. Talk about introducing guns in a magical girl show. No wonder she’s FIRE!

24. Seryu Ubiquitous (Akame Ga Kill)

When we look at Seryu, we usually think she’s such a cute girl. She’s filled with purity and honesty, there is no way she could be a literal psychopath. Seryu is a girl with a twisted sense of justice. Twisted enough that she let Dr.Stylish modify her physical abilities and give her new powers. Elon Musk approves.

Seryu sees the world as black and white and not who is right and who is wrong. To her, if someone is opposing the empire, she will murder them just to eradicate crime from its roots. That’s scary, isn’t it?

Besides having immense physical strength and martial arts background, she also has an ability called Justice Execution, where she detaches her mechanical arm to reveal a gun.

She also has Justice Volley Fire, which bombards her enemies in the name of JUSTICE. But her iconic weapon is the biological Teigu she calls Koro. It is capable of growing in size on command and eats her opponents like a monster.

23. Maki Oze (Fire Force)

Though Maki is a new addition to the fire users in the anime universe, she has the most unique fire ability. Sure, I could have put Portgas D. Ace, Natsu, Endeavor, and many better fire users in this list who could probably easily beat Maki but this list is about unique abilities.

Maki is just a 19-year-old second-generation fire soldier and has one hell of a unique fire ability.

Given the fact that Fire Force is all about fire users, Maki is different. While others use fire as flame throwers or to enhance their physical appearance like a burning MUSTACHE (Endeavor reference), Maki uses her fire ability as a summoning system.

I’m saying Maki has fire familiars as her support and with the right gear, Maki can easily beat two third-generation fire users at the same time. If I haven’t intrigued you enough, Maki has an amazing physique too.

22. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo)

No, I did not just have a stroke. That’s the name of our protagonist and the name of the anime. For the sake of simplicity, I shall be addressing him as Bobobo from now on. Weird as the name is, the show is even weirder.

Almost any ability from this show can be used in this list. Bobobo serves as our main character who is very weird, erratic, and crazy. His unique ability is called Fist of the Nose Hair and as the name suggests he uses his nose hair to attack his opponents. I would definitely be creeped out if I saw someone fighting with their nose hair.

21. Koenma (Yu Yu Hakusho)

Being shown as someone who is a coward the whole show, we were surprised when we first got to know about Koenma’s pacifier ability. Apparently, Koenma is not weak, he was saving his energy for a prophecy that was going to come true and he was storing his power to be released all at once to prevent that prophecy.

Koenma, once releasing his pacifier from his mouth, will unleash hell or to better explain a Kekkai barrier, capable of sealing even the most powerful S class demons. He also used his powers to bring Gamemaster back to life in the series. Though he is very powerful, it is still weird seeing a grown man sucking on a pacifier.

20. Rin Okumura (Blue Exorcist)

Imagine being the son of Satan. That is our boy Rin. Despite being the devil’s son, Rin is still a kind-hearted guy. Given I just introduced Maki in my previous list entry, Rin’s fire is different, it’s special. He wields blue flames in his arsenal.

Being a kid with a complicated childhood, he had a hard time accepting his inheritance powers and has struggled to control his flames. Rin also wields a KuriKara sword.

Rin manipulates his blue flames to cast techniques like Satan Bomb Campfire and Flame Emitting Meditation to cause large AOE explosions. If you’re into some badass fight scenes, then Blue Exorcist is right in your corner.

19. Minoru Mineta (My Hero Academia)

Mineta from My Hero Academia by far has the weirdest and unique ability. Also, how is this guy in the A-class? Isn’t class A for the elite heroes?

Mineta is character-wise a coward, a guy who makes dirty jokes sometimes, and overall, the class douche, I guess.

His quirk or power is the hair on his head is actually balls and these balls are sticky. So, basically, his power is sticky hairballs. I’m still confused about how this guy is in class A.

Even though the power is not useful to any hero, Minata makes good use of it sometimes. No, not fighting villains. He uses his sticky balls to climb the wall of bathhouses in the bathhouse episodes.

So, yeah Minata is basically used as comic relief by the mangaka. He also uses his ability to limit enemy movement during fights but that’s basically all he does. Watch the show though, Bakugo totally steals the spotlight from Midoriya.

18. Knuckle Bine (Hunter X Hunter)

We all knew Hunter X Hunter was going to come up sooner or later in this list. Personally, it is one of my favorite anime, and the story is a banger. It has an amazingly explained magic system preferred as Nen. This Nen is used to explain every character’s ability and power.

Knuckle has the ability called APR and IRS. When it comes to APR, he is able to share his Nen with his opponent. But every time his opponent hits him, they build up the Nen debt with interest.

Once they exceed their own Nen amount they activate the IRS. This seals away Knuckle’s opponent’s Nen abilities. I’d say that’s a pretty unique ability. Pay your taxes guys or Knuckle might just come for you.

17. Sabrac (Burning Eyed Shana)

If I had to explain overpowered, then I would show you a picture of Sabrac. Sabrac is a demon lord who is so huge that he has to use a clone to fight his battles. His disguise is part of his powers.

Sabrac normally conceals his original body and his clone becomes only visible, making it almost impossible for his opponent to damage him. This dude also has the ability to increase the damage of his clone over time.

So, you’re fighting this dude that you cannot see and you fight his clone and his clone increases damage over time. How do you even beat Sabrac? The show is awesome but with lots of clichés. So, if you’re into overpowered protagonists then do give this one a try.

16. Saitama (One Punch Man)

Not trying to start a war but Saitama could definitely beat Goku (comment down below 😏). Jokes aside, Saitama is considered the most powerful being in his universe and even among Anime fans.

He’s not getting the recognition is a different matter. But as the name of the show suggests, Saitama has the power to destroy anything with one punch.

Though it is still a mystery how Saitama got this powerful, he does explain his workout schedule consisting of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10km run. People still fight to this day in the comments whether Saitama is the strongest in the anime universe.

Underestimated by many foes, Saitama has achieved his unbeatable state and has given us a taste of his power from time to time. If you are into clever jokes and just a show memeing Dragon Ball, then One Punch Man is a must-watch.

15. Shinichi Izumi (Parasyte)

Parasyte is an anime where unknown parasites have appeared on earth and are starting to take over earth by taking human hosts. These alien-like creatures normally take over the human brain and strip them of their consciousness and take control over their whole body. And the parasites also provide the human body with extreme power that no normal human has.

Infected humans get increased physical strength and speed. Parasites can also manipulate their flesh and eat up or murder humans with one attack.

Shinichi, our protagonist of the show, gets lucky and does not get his brain taken over. Rather the parasite is forced to take over his hand and thus Shinichi gets control of his body with enhanced power and speed.

The anime has also shown that these parasites can speak human language and Shinichi has made some sort of a deal with his parasite to let the alien-like creature live in his body but it can’t take over his brain. Parasyte is one of the best sci-fi anime, give it a try.

14. Kosuke Ueki (Law of Ueki)

If I was ever given the option of bringing one anime character to save the earth from pollution, I would bring Ueki.

Law of Ueki Is already a weird show that’s populated with tons of characters with unique powers but I chose Ueki because he has the power to literally save our planet from being destroyed by pollution.

Ueki carries a garbage can and with his powers, he can make garbage into trees. I’d say that’s pretty handy to restore the balance of earth’s pollution. Someone teleports Ueki to our world. Where is truck-kun when you need him?

13. Trafalgar D. Law (One Piece)

There are so many unique abilities in One piece that I can fill another list with all those unique abilities. But I chose Law because Law is the user of Op-Op fruit.

To better explain, it lets him create any sized room and inside that room, Law has the upper hand and he can slice up anything and anyone in that room, just like an operation room in hospitals.

The positive side is anything Law cuts inside the room won’t die even though it’s in a hundred pieces. Law is also a doctor so he has the knowledge of where vital points of the human body are. So, you can get the idea of how the Op-Op fruit is perfect for Law. It’s literally OP!

12. Majin Buu (Dragonball Z)

Majin Buu is one of the most unique characters in Dragonball Z. Though most Dragonball characters use similar powers, Majin Buu on the other hand is somewhat of a magical being.

When first introduced to the viewers, we were surprised how something that soft possesses the speed to exceed Super Saiyan 2 and go toe to toe with Super Saiyan 3? But his appearance isn’t the only thing that’s weird.

Majin Buu has an ability called Candy Beam that can make anything it touches into, you guessed it, Candy. Not something we expected from Dragonball.

11. Asta (Black Clover)

In a world filled with magic, imagine being the protagonist of an anime with no magic powers. Having the willpower of a stubborn chihuahua, Asta does not give up his dream to become the wizard king and ends up being chosen by a demon that gives him demon powers.

Asta doesn’t have his own powers, he shares the demon’s power that lives in his five-leaf clover magic book. He can summon anti-magic swords and transform them into a half-demon for a small amount of time.

Now imagine this, you’re in a world filled with magic and you have an anti-magic weapon. Oh, how the tables have turned. Asta just went from a zero to a hero like that. Jokes aside Black Clover has an amazing storyline.

If you can sit through Asta’s annoying voice for 20 episodes then you will start to like the show after they tone down Asta’s screaming.

10. Nel (Bleach)

Who remembers Nel from Bleach? The cute kid that befriended Ichigo on his journey to save Orihime. Nel is an Arrancar and we are first introduced to her as her child form. This former Espada is actually a healer. You might ask, what’s so special about a healer?

Well, it’s the method she uses to heal your wounds that make her unique. You see Nel heals you with her drool or spit.

Ichigo is a high schooler and Nel is in her child form force choking herself to release insane amounts of saliva that are then poured at the wound and it’s magically healed. If that isn’t a way to get the FBI at your door, I don’t know what is.

9. Tama (One Piece)

Tama is the sweet young girl that is introduced to us in One Piece in the Land of Wano arc. Her power is producing a Dango from her cheek. So, what’s so special about making magic Dangos? Well, are you into slavery?

Because that’s exactly the power she holds but it only works on beasts. So, it’s making beasts your pets’ ability. But there is another but.

In the Land of Wano, there are people who have beast powers and when they eat her Dango, they become subservient to her.

You see now, where I was going with slavery? Don’t worry, I’m just over-explaining the power. Wano arc is by far the best in One Piece and Tama is pretty wholesome too.

8. Shigeo Kageyama (Mob Psycho 100)

I’ll say one sentence to get your attention. Mob Psycho 100 was created by the author of One Punch Man. Did I get your attention? Coming from the same author, you know Mob Psycho 100 will have the same sarcastic and clever jokes that One Punch Man had.

I could have put other psychics in this list but I chose to go for Mob or Shigeo as the show is one hell of a rollercoaster.

Shigeo is a psychic power user that wants to live a normal life. He wants to become stronger by not using his psychic powers. So, he joined the body improvement club. Though Shigeo sees little to no improvement in his physique, the show tells us how Shigeo never gives up and keeps trying to overcome every obstacle with his own strength.

Oh, you’re not convinced yet? The show also introduces many ghosts and villains.

Later on, that gives us some of the best fight scenes ever made in anime. Let me give you some advice, do not make Shigeo angry because once this guy snaps, all hell is going to break loose.

7. Sana (Alice & Zouroku)

Sana, being a laboratory experiment, manages to escape at the beginning of Alice & Zouroku. She literally takes inspiration from Alice in Wonderland.

Even the name of her ability is dreams of Alice. She can create anything she wants just by imagining it. Now imagine how overpowered this ability could be if she went on a murdering rampage.

But that’s not the storyline the anime takes. Rather Sana creates her own world and chooses to live in it, governed by its own rules. Though Sana has the power to destroy the earth, she doesn’t want to. She wants to live her life in peace. Her lacking are her physical strength and stamina.

6. Yuu (Charlotte)

Charlotte is an anime that you can put into many categories. But it’s mostly slice of life and supernatural. Yuu is our protagonist who has the power to jump from one body to another and control their body.

While doing so, his original body becomes an empty vessel and that body falls down unconscious. This is what we first think Yuu’s powers are. But in reality, Yuu is not the only one with special powers in this anime.

Rather, Yuu has the strongest power. If Yuu ever jumps into a power user’s body then Yuu comes back to his body with their powers. Yuu is basically an ability thief too. I don’t want to spoil but Yuu actually becomes very powerful at the end of the anime. It’s a great story so give this one a try.

5. Light Yagami (Death Note)

This time we’re going to take the obvious ones out of the list. Many weebs claim Death Note to be their first anime and praise the show for its out-of-the-ordinary storyline. That’s also the reason the name death note has appeared in many top ten lists praising it.

Light Yagami, the protagonist of Death Note, possesses an insanely overpowered tool that literally gives him similar power as the grim reaper, and Light is an extremely intelligent guy. Now, combine these two features and you get Kira, the reaper of all crime and anyone who becomes a thorn in his ideology.

After finding a random notebook of the Death God named Ryuk, Light started to have a God complex and he started cleaning up the criminals from the streets. The notebook works like this- if the writer knows the targeted person’s face and real name then the user of the death note can kill the target by writing their name on the notebook.

If you haven’t watched Death Note yet, do check it out. It is by far one of the most overhyped and well-animated anime up to date.

4. DIO (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders)

Imagine having such a power that people make memes about you and we all know that you thought I would put Jotaro in this list but IT WAS ME, DIO. Jokes aside, the story starts with Joseph telling Jotaro about their family’s long-time enemy and a vampire DIO. If things were not bad enough DIO is an immortal being who now possesses Jonathan Joestar’s body.

DIO’s ability or stand is called The World. The stand specializes in hand-to-hand combat and usually is better than other hand-to-hand combat stand users. If that was not enough, what makes DIO special is his ability to stop time.

In the anime, we witness DIO stop time for a maximum of 9 seconds, and during this time, he gives off the impression to his opponent that he has teleported or he has light speed. During the fight with Jotaro, DIO many times made it seem like Jotaro could not beat him. It took Jotaro to create his own time-stopping ability to beat DIO.

3. Takemichi (Tokyo Revengers)

How can I not introduce a time traveler in a list of unique abilities? Takemichi from Tokyo Revengers is one of the best adaptations of spring 2021.

It’s about Takemichi trying to save the girl he loved in his childhood and trying to change the past so that she does not die in the present and to do that Takemichi has to become Tokyo’s number one gang leader.

There is just one problem, Takemichi is all talk and no show, and if you know how gang wars go, then you know Takemichi is getting his balls handed to him every time.

It’s a show about how Takemichi grows as a man and transforms from being a coward to becoming brave and saving his best girl. The animation is awesome, the story is a banger and I see no reason you should not jump into the hype train and watch the show.

2. Aizawa (My Hero Academia)

I saved the best for last. Oh, you’re a quirk user? Well, too bad, Aizawa or Eraserhead can erase any quirk of the user he looks at as long as he is looking at them.

It is a temporary quirk cancel ability but when you’re in a big fight with villains like one for all, you would want Easerhead as your support. Besides his absolutely overpowering quirk, Aizawa is also a skilled hand-to-hand fighter and an expert assassin.

If that wasn’t enough, Aizawa is an excellent teacher as well. His only weakness is how long he can keep his eyes open and if his opponent has more physical strength than him even after quirk cancelation, then a fight becomes harder for Aizawa to win.

1. Lelouch (Code Geass)

Code Geass is a show that you either love or hate. Lelouch is our protagonist who has the power to command anyone once certain conditions are met. Eventually, we see Lelouch’s journey to use his ability and become the supreme leader.

We are also shown how Lelouch uses his wits to fight other Geass users. Lelouch can be compared somewhat to Light Yagami from Death Note.
