37. Code Geass

I know that some of you are thinking, ‘Why is Code Geass on this list?’ Well, to be honest, Attack on Titan is essentially mecha, right? Instead of iron-clad war machines, they were just people in giant flesh cockpits. If you disagree, then no worries, we all have our own opinions about everything. But don’t get me wrong! I love Attack on Titan!
On August 10, 2010, the Holy Empire of Britannia conquered Japan. They renamed it Area 11 and called its citizens ‘Elevens.’ But, the people of Japan weren’t down for that and they rebelled to get their freedom back.
Enter Lelouch Lamperouge, a Britannian student and exiled prince caught in the middle of the battle between the rebels and Britannian forces. He was saved by a mysterious and beautiful girl named C.C., who granted him the power of a king, also known as Geass. With this newfound power, Lelouch became a vigilante known as Zero and set out to seek revenge against Britannia. Have you ever wondered who you might be in the Code Geass anime? If so, I recommend trying our Code Geass personality quiz!
36. Chainsaw Man

One of the dark horses in the anime arena this year, Chainsaw Man is not a gladiator, just a figure of speech. Sorry if I confused you, but I won’t lie, Chainsaw Man is currently one of the most highly anticipated anime of all time.
Instead of man-eating Titans, the world of Chainsaw Man tackles more Demons, which appear to be stronger as their names become more feared. If you’re looking for some good old morbid gore, then this anime is great news for you!
Demons commingle within modern society, hiding their true forms by cladding themselves in human flesh. Speaking of the devil…a poor boy named Denji has a demon-like chainsaw dog named Pochita. Yes, you heard that right! The story gets even eerier as you delve deeper. Denji is faced with the obstacle of poverty, and to make ends meet, he has accumulated debts. To repay these debts, he is willing to do anything, including putting himself in the dangerous situation of killing demons.
Denji and Pochita face dangers and overcome hardships as they hunt demons. However, they are betrayed by the man to whom Denji owes a debt. The yakuza boys he owes the debt to have sold their souls to the Zombie Devil, who kills Denji and Pochita and leaves their bodies in a dumpster.
Pochita brings Denji back to life by becoming his heart, but all deals with devils come with a cost. In exchange for his revival, Denji must reveal his dreams to Pochita. As he mends his shattered body, his killer is stunned, and Denji transforms into the Chainsaw Man – an unstoppable killing machine seeking revenge. Along the way, he is discovered by the attractive waifu Makima and becomes a Devil Hunter. As the story unfolds, viewers will see Denji slowly achieving his dreams. But what if I tell you that Chainsaw man is not actually a devil? Check out some of our theories!
35. Parasyte

Just like Attack On Titan, this anime has the same horror and thriller genre! So, you’re definitely going to love this show. Let me tell you a bit about this anime if you haven’t already watched it. The story revolves around a seventeen years old boy named Shinichi Izumi who survives against alien-like creatures called Parasites.
These creatures enter into the bodies and become parasites, making people their host. Shinichi Izumi, the MC, gets partially infected with such a creature but weirdly enough, he gets along with his parasite! The name of his parasyte is Migi! With such unique creatures and thrilling incidents, this anime will not disappoint you. Plus, the anime quotes in this series will wildly inspire or terrify you, just like the parasytes themselves.
34. Dororo

Dororo is the perfect mixture of samurai, swordsmanship, and gore! If you’re into such a genre, you’ll love Dororo! The story of this anime revolves around a young Ronin named Hyakkimaru. He was born limbless, malformed, and without any facial features! WHEW!
As this boy grows up, he tries to retake his features and organs from the demons. Let me tell you a story! Basically, his father sacrificed him to the demons and that’s why he was born that way. Sounds sad, right?
Now, Hyakkimaru is on his journey and during that journey, he meets a lot of new people too who decide to accompany him. Therefore, the empathy of characters, the gore, and the thrill matches Attack On Titan to some extent. I’m sure you’re going to love this anime too!
33. Mirai Nikki

Next off, we have Mirai Nikki. This is one of the oldest and earliest horror anime in the anime industry. People really enjoyed watching this anime and I’m sure you will too when you’ll hear what happens!
Mirai Nikki is surely not for people with soft hearts since it’s a mix of psychological thriller, and horror. If you’re into this stuff, fasten your seatbelt! The story revolves around a guy named Yukiteru Amano who spends the majority of his time on writing a diary on his cellphone with his mythical friends…OOH, our boy was up-to-date, right? However, that’s not the end, these mythical and mysterious friends start revealing their true identities to him! I just got goosebumps. If you want to know more, you can just quickly jump right here in our Mirai Nikki filler list guide!
32. Gantz

This anime is more of an isekai game where the MC gets transported into a gaming world. It’s not just any gaming world, but it’s a world where only intellectual people can survive. Sounds like Squid Game, right? Anyways, let’s get to know about this anime a bit better now!
Kurono Kei is a highschooler who ends up dying in a train accident. This guy finds himself in an abandoned building with other “dead” or “isekai’d” people. A large sphere orders him to kill the aliens. However, he ends up getting caught up in a test where his moral, physical, and psychological skills are tested. Sounds cool, right?
31. Blue Gender

Moving on, we have Blue Gender. In this anime, the MC sleeps for like, 20 years. After waking up in another world, he finds strange and big bugs called “Blue”. Those bugs take over the world and now he has to defeat them!
In fact, humans are in danger in this world. That’s why they decide to move to a second planet called “Second Earth”. Sounds very futuristic, right? These humans go on missions to retake Eath and Yuji gets recruited as a soldier. During his stay as a soldier, he goes through many things which only he knows. Very mysterious, eh?
30. The Promised Neverland

I know you’re thinking that Attack On Titan & The Promised Neverland? How’re they similar, are you crazy? Well, yes! They’re similar in a way that people get eaten by weird creatures. I know the demons in The Promised Neverland are very small and are nowhere near “Titans” but trust me, you won’t regret watching this masterpiece.
The story of this anime revolves around some genius orphans named Ray, Emma, and Norman. They live happily until they find the truth behind the people at the orphanage being very nice. It turns out, the orphanage is very messed up and these kids (after being fed) will be eaten by weird creatures outside the Orphanage. YES! Sounds very brutal.
29. Death Note

The evergreen anime, Death Note revolves around the villainous main character, Light Yagami who comes across a very mysterious notebook called the Death Note. It turns out this notebook can kill anyone whose name is written inside. So, even if your friends have a Death Note, you better write their name before they write yours in it. (HAHA, just kidding)
When it comes to unique characters and storylines, Death Note should definitely be on the list. As for its similarity with Attack On Titan, it’s nothing more than the horrific creatures and those scary shinigami. I bet that you all have watched Death Note. If not then I might write down your name! So, if you still love your life better proceed at our Death Note watch order guide!
28. Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the HOTTEST anime of all time. This anime definitely made our 2020 better than anything else, right? 2020 has been really tough on all of us, maybe? I don’t know. Coming back to the topic, the story of Jujutsu Kaisen revolves around an average highschooler boy named Yuji Itadori who wants to save his school from the horrifying incidents as advised by his grandfather.
His grandfather, Wasuke Itadori, always advised him to help people who are weaker than him. Therefore, he dedicated himself to help others. In fact, he came across many other horrific creatures. And he’s also a host to the parasite we know by the name of SUKUNA! Yes, Yuji literally ate his cursed finger to gain some powers.
On his journey to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer, he lost and gained many friends. With all of the aspects of horrific creatures, psychological, and the bond between characters, Jujutsu Kaisen is similar to Attack On Titan! If you haven’t watched this masterpiece, you’re missing out on a lot.
27. Demon Slayer

DEMON SLAYER? AY! That’s one of my most favorite anime of all time. Demon Slayer is back with its second season in 2021! If you haven’t watched it or know about it, then better plunge that nichirin sword in our Demon Slayer watch order guide! thank me later, first watch it!
When it comes to DEMONS, Demon Slayer surely doesn’t back down when it comes to diversity. The story of this anime is very sentimental. Our MC, Tanjiro Kamado, just like Eren from Attack On Titan, lost his mother and now he has to avenge his family’s death and cure his sister. His mother died because of demons. Therefore, Tanjiro decides to become a Demon Slayer and ends up joining the Demon Slayer Corps.
On his journey, he makes a lot of friends and meets a lot of inspirational people. In fact, he also comes across the special level demon slayers called Hashiras! These Hashiras have a specific power that is just on another level! Just like that, Demon Slayer tells us the adventures of Tanjiro Kamado who is on his way to help people and prevent them from dying like his mother.
26. Another

Another is another anime that is on the list of Anime Like Attack On Titan. This anime is also very sentimental, and its horrors will give you the chills! The story of this anime revolves around a young man, Koichi Sakakibara. He transfers into a new school where he comes across weird events.
He gets involved with a mysterious girl and gruesome deaths. We all know how there were so many gruesome deaths in Attack On Titan. So, they have a similar vibe. What do you guys think? But what do you mean that you don’t know where to start and what to skip? Then hold those horses! Here’s Another filler list guide!
25. Assassination Classroom

Assassination Classroom revolves around an octopus-like alien. The students of the school must kill this creature to save the Earth or else they’re done for! Imagine such a teacher who’d motivate you to be powerful and threaten you to destroy your home if you don’t defeat him. Sounds CRAZY!
This sensei is called Koro Sensei. He’s a very upbeat individual who at times, asks weird requests. He holds such power that he can ruin the whole planet EARTH! Will someone be able to step up against Koro Sensei or is the Earth going down? If you are interested on watching Assassination Classroom, be sure to check our watch order guide for this series!
24. Terra Formars

Deadman Wonderland follows around a young man who gets falsely accused for murdering someone. He goes to prison obviously, and there, he goes through many weird incidents. If you’re planning to watch it and don’t know where to start and don’t know what to skip, here’s our Deadman Wonderland filler list! Enjoy!
20. World Trigger

Yuma Kuga is the MC who gets transported into another world and there, he finds out that there’s a war with aliens known as Neighbors. Everything is not as easy as it seems. Yuma Kuga is a humanoid neighbor. And after his arrival, he finds out the secrets of the Third Mikado City. If you haven’t watched this anime, you should. The aspect of survival in this anime is similar to Attack On Titan. Find out the strongest characters in World Trigger in our blogs!
19. Blood+

Saya Otonashi is an average high schooler who suddenly comes across deadly species called Chiropterans. It turns out, she’s the only one who can defeat these weird species. Will she be able to defeat them or will she run away from such a big responsibility?
18. Goblin Slayer

At number 18th, we have Goblin Slayer. A tale of a warrior who’s out for hunting and eliminating goblins out of the world. Before you bash me for the un similarities, hear me out. In a lot of ways, Goblins can be considered similar to Titans.
Firstly, they are an outside threat. Secondly, humans are all afraid of the goblins, and thirdly, they devour and kill humans. The name of the series is pretty self-explanatory. Both main characters are blinded by revenge. In Attack on Titan, Eren lost his mind, and we know his hatred for the Titans.
Similarly, Goblin Slayer, the guy whose name or face we do not know, gets out there, smack the hell out of those little guys, and be the usual badass he’s always been. If you like Attack on Titan, I’m sure that Goblin Slayer will provide something unique on the table for you guys! If you wanna hear more about Goblin Slayer, then better heed the most fearsome Goblin Slayer quotes!
17. Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA)

At the first glance, Full Metal Alchemist might look a little different to you. HOWEVER, when we dive into both MCs personas, that’s where things get interesting. Both main characters have similar personalities and goals.
The story is about Edward Elric who’s the goofy yet badass MC, and his brother Alphonse. These brothers make a fatal mistake by trying to revive their dead mother. And as it’s not DRAGON BALL Z we’re talking about, they’re punished for it!
After Alphonse’s soul gets trapped into a metal body, that’s where their kickass mission starts. A whole new adventure of ups and downs, gains and losses, changes in Edward’s personality. If there’s one thing Edward and Eren are known for, it’s their loudness and aggressiveness. And most of all, how they mature over time.
All in all, Full Metal Alchemist is the epitome of perfect character development. Enjoy the series! Did you know that Full Metal Alchemist has a mobile game? It’s crazy, right? Check it out for all the details!
16. Claymore

What’s hotter than a bunch of women fighting? You won’t say this after being 2 episodes in the series. The violence, gore, and brutality in Claymore are unlike any other Anime series. At some point in my life, this Anime used to freak the hell out of me.
The story is about Claymore. Half-human and Half-demon race that is out there to fight a race called YOMA. Yoma are a full demon race that devours human beings. Get the reference? Pretty similar to Attack on Titan, the Anime is about the MC who’s half-human and half-demon.
Fighting on the Yoma isn’t an easy job. But these Claymore species are more than capable of kicking some serious ass. The fighting scenes are full of gore and deadly, but with all the emotions involved, get ready to use some tissues.
15. Berserk

If there’s one thing that Berserk is known for, it’s the darkness. And I’m not talking about the emos, so chill out. The berserk manga has, hands down, the most GORE scenes I’ve ever seen in my life. Don’t even get me started. Even if you’re an Attack on Titan fan, you’re surely missing out on the creepiness this Anime brings you.
Aside from Dark Fantasy, it’s a fully-fledged horror series, making it one of the best alternatives to Attack on Titan. While the Anime might not be on par with the manga, it’s still worth it.
Berserk incorporates a series of betrayal and brutal scenes that are the most jaw-dropping moments I’ve ever seen in any dark fantasy series. Such sad moments with blood baths everywhere, the series is badass. Actually, I’ve been considering getting a tattoo related to Berserk, but I’m having trouble deciding on a design. Could you help me out? Check out these epic Berserk tattoos and let me know which one you think I should get!
14. Tokyo Ghoul

“OSHIYETEYO OSHIYETEYO” I bet it’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the name “Tokyo Ghoul.” Kaneki is the MC, and comparing him with Eren, the similarity is uncanny. Tokyo Ghoul, as the name suggests, involves Ghoul. These creatures eat humans for a living. Like, literally for living. But unlike titans, ghouls can easily disguise themselves as normal human beings.
The constant need for eating human flesh to stay alive makes this series very dark. Since both MCs are pretty much the same. Kaneki and Eren are similar in a plethora of ways. Initially, they were both pretty positive. However, time changed them, and right now, BOOM! Handsome and plenty dark. You’ll love Tokyo Ghoul. But to some folks who’ve watched the series, have you ever wondered who might be the strongest Tokyo Ghoul characters?
13. Black Bullet

Black Bullet isn’t as popular as many big series. However, the whole look and feel are somewhat similar to Attack on Titan. The post-crisis scenes make it pretty much the same as what happened in Attack on Titan.
The story includes a virus that turns people into something else. Yes! I’m talking monsters here. Similar to Attack on Titan, the humans who lived in walls were the same! But that doesn’t mean that the virus couldn’t come in.
So the whole series of dark events and humans granted with supernatural abilities make this Anime a must-watch if you’re coming for Attack on Titan.
12. Elfen Lied

If it seems like another cutesy slice of life Anime, I’m here to assure you that it’s DARK. Lucy, the main character is so strong that she might be badass even in Attack on Titan’s universe. This dark fantasy series follows a race called Diclonius.
Similar to humans, these monsters have horns. So for all the people with horn fetish, you’re lucky. Treated as a threat to humans, they have superpowers that can rip even the titans from Attack on Titan.
Lucy lost her memories as a test subject Diclonius, and now she’s fighting off her race. Got similar vibes? Eren and Lucy are probably the same people from a different universe. Of course, a little gender-bending is involved too. But Diclonius aren’t just physically powerful, they have powerful words too!
11. High school of the dead

Do you remember the movie “Resident Evil?” Added with a lot of romantic scenes, High School of The Dead is a mix of dark and romance series. Awesome animations and fights, the series incorporates zombies throughout JAPAN!
A team of high schoolers is trying their best to fight these creatures off and live their life back to normal. But will they? Similar to Attack on Titan, the main focus here is this OUTSIDE THREAT that must be eliminated.
10. Neon Genesis Evangelion

Willing to sacrifice your tears Neon Genesis Evangelion has the popularity of a GOD. Due to the excellent storyline and dark moments, fans coming from Attack on Titan just love it. The action revolves around robots that were built by NERV.
Controlled by humans, these bio-machines are used in fighting off the monsters trying to destroy TOKYO! Willing to sacrifice your time to achieve entertainment? Then I’ll be dropping this Neon Genesis Evangelion watch order guide for you!
9. Castlevania

It’s not every day that we get to see a series like Castlevania. Based on such a famous video game, the series is full of Vampires and Monsters who are out there to wreak havoc.
It’s so hard not to say that our antagonist who goes by the name of Dracula is one of the best vampires in any Anime ever seen. On the flip side, there are more tragedies in Castlevania compared to the number of titans we see in Attack on Titan. There’s a lot of overpowered characters too!
8. Shiki

With each episode, Shiki gets violent. The gore scenes aren’t comparable to Attack on Titan as the primary focus is how to make the series look deadlier. And, goddamn, the more you watch it, the more you realize how deep you’re dug your own grave.
Talking about the plot, Shiki, the deceased souls, are the reanimated corpses that wreak havoc everywhere. Just like the Titans, their main source of protein is us, humans. The series is off to more of a slow start but it gets violent and darker with each episode.
7. Seraph of the end (Owari No Seraph)

Destroying the human world, these vampires have no class at all. Feeding off of the humans, destroying and exploiting the human race, these guys think of our race as livestock for them. I’m sure the vegans out there must be thinking it’s karma for non-vegans.
Yuichiro, the MC in Owari no Seraph, has the same hatred as Eren. His best friend getting captured, losing a whole bunch of people, and seeing his loved ones die right into the front of his eyes, Yuichiro loses it! Everything from the action scenes to the “DESTROY THE HUMAN” part is pretty much the same. Are you a fan of the series? Ever wondered which character you might be in the anime? Find out by taking our Seraph of the End personality quiz!
6. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Another famous Mecha Anime that will only leave you hanging for more, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a less violent version of Attack on Titan. Made by the same studio that animated Neon Genesis, you’re not missing out on anything.
The main characters are trying to know the secrets of their world. But they are not supposed to leave the WALLS, or can they? Our MC named Kamina believes something else.
Doing his best to know life outside the walls, he decided to let himself lose! Kamina gets some serious character development over time, and similar to Eren, a lot of emotions and betrayals are involved. Want to venture in search of the secrets of the world? Embark on a journey to uncover the secrets of the world – join our voyage by following this Tegen Toppa Gurren Lagann watch order guide!
5. Hellsing

Moving on to this bad boy, coming up with only 10 episodes, Hellsing has made its reputation as one of the most popular dark fantasy Anime of all time. Even if Alucard is not the most popular vampire out there, the plot has a plethora of similarities to Attack on Titans.
Vampires trying to destroy the human world by eating and enjoying the luxurious blood, they’re only getting stronger. Even though they’re fighting against the vampires, our protagonist is a vampire himself. Let me ask you something: Which one is better? Hellsing vs Hellsing: Ultimate?
4. Kabenari Of The Iron Fortress

Both Attack on Titan and Kabaneri of The Iron Fortress were animated by Wit Studios. That figures how similar they are. While Attack on Titan is still getting bashed for MAPPA as the animation studio, we can’t deny that Wit studio did an awesome job in animating the previous seasons.
The similarity occurs where the main character is infected. Not much different from Eren, the main characters become what they hated the most. But by using the same power, they are annihilating the threat by using titan’s or demon’s powers against them. It’s a good thing that knowing what train and what train to skip is a good thing (you’ll get what I’m saying once you’ve watched the series itself). The thing is here’s the Kabenari of Iron Fortress filler list.
3. God Eater

The super realistic CGI might surprise you here! Just like AOT, the action is awesome with God Eater. The main problem in God Eater in the series is a creature called Aragami. Just like Eren, our protagonist here is blinded by hatred. Hence, he’s trying his absolute best to defeat Aragami and get his revenge back.
What we loved about God Eater was its top–notch animation. Mixed with a horror storyline, the CGI takes it to a whole other level. Therefore, God Eater is an excellent Anime like Attack on Titan.
The only complaint here is CGI. But hear me out. I wasn’t a big fan of CGI in Anime either. Watching God Eater changed my perceptions. The super realistic CGI will give you chills to the bones. Keeping it violent and full of gore, “Aragami” is a race of beasts that are single handedly destroying the Earth.
The main character Lenka Utsugi has hatred piled up in every inch of his veins. Trying his best to destroy the Aragami, he’s on this life-threatening mission. See the resemblance? But did you know that God Eater is an anime based on video games?
2. Akame Ga Kill

Akame Ga Kill is often referred to as the “human version” of Attack on Titan is an excellent recommendation. Unlike Attack on Titan where the main threat is Titans itself, the corrupt world of Akame Ga Kill does not leave any stones unturned in terms of hurting the civilians.
Anyone who opposes the government is given an instant death in broad daylight. Pretty absurd, right? That’s where our main characters come into play. The group of assassins claiming to be “Night Raids” created their revolution by sneakily fighting the government. In the hope to fix the broken system, they oppose everything.
The action in Akame Ga Kill is unbeatable. You’re getting top-notch action, brutality, and most of all, emotional scenes to make you wet your sheets. But most of all, there’s no-nonsense in the plot like a lot of other Anime. And I’m not talking about Naruto!!! Speaking of emotions, why not take a moment to read some of our touching quotes?
1. D.Gray-Man

While the series is done and dusted, the series incorporates a boy who’s not normal. Fighting the devil with his badass transformation, you can expect something that even Attack on Titan might not even provide. The main threat in the D.Gray Man series is the devil. Hence, our main character has
A story of a 15 years old boy who’s able to transform into a beast, D Gray Man has an interesting plot. Allan Walker is our MC who’s willing to sacrifice his life to defeat the Devils.
Similar to the Eldians vs Marleyans fight, both sides are looking to settle their beef once and for all. Allan joins the black order for the betterment of the world. Little did he know, the outside world is much more brutal than he thought. The whole turns of events and character development are what make the D Gray Man series similar to Attack on Titan. Watching it will be worth it! In case that you’ve changed of heart you can quickly proceed on our D.Gray man filler list!
did you find your pick?

That’s it for our list of anime like Attack on Titan. Generally speaking, Attack on Titan has been one of the best dark fantasy series in the world. Comparing them side by side isn’t a thing you should do. Just enjoy these shows as you watch them. These anime are a must-watch if you’re seeking something similar to Attack on Titan.
