Modern-City anime are always super interesting, right? So, today, we have an anime and its story is set in a modern city. Not only the modern city but there’s also some fantasy in it too. The story of this anime revolves around a dullahan who works as a courier in a city named Ikebukuro. There are two dangerous gangs unfolding in the city of Ikebukuro named “The Dollars” and “The Chaos”.
Now, a young boy that goes by the name of Mikado Ryugamine moves to this city to attend Raira Academy along with his childhood buddy. He hasn’t seen his childhood buddy, Masomi Kida, in years. After they both meet at the station, they explore this mysterious city together. Knowing a little bit about the people of the city, Masomi warns Mikado that there are some people whom he wouldn’t want to run into. Who could those people be? Durarara!! Season 1
Mikado Ryugamine is a young boy who moves to a new city named Ikebukuro to attend Raira Academy. He runs into his childhood buddy at the station after a very long time. His childhood buddy, named Masoma Kida, warns Mikado about some dangerous people living in this city.
For instance, people like Shizuo Heiwajima, are very dangerous and he has superhuman abilities too. Some dangerous gangs like “The Dollars” and “The Chaos” are in this place as well. Mikado comes across a local person named “The Black Ride”.
Fun fact: This girl doesn’t have a head under the helmet. She rides a motorbike all the time and her real name is Celty Sturluson. She’s in this city for a reason. Her head was stolen in this city. Therefore, she has to go around on her bike to find it. This anime revolves around all of these characters and tells us their stories too. The story of Durarara is told from the viewpoint of eleven different characters. So, I bet it’s going to be amazing and you’re going to love watching this anime! All of the episodes have a specific story revolving around a certain character.
Durarara!! Special 1: Heaven’s Vengeance
Heaven’s Vengeance is one of the first OVAs or Specials of Durarara!! And its story revolves around Shizuo Heiwajima and Tom Tanaka who are collecting debts from people. Now, if you aren’t familiar with the characters, let me help you.
Tom Tanaka is a very old friend of our dangerous boy, Shizuo. He’s a laid–back person and remains reserved all the time, unlike Shizuo who has an aggressive personality. Anyways, Tom Tanaka knocks on the door of Ginjirou Maruoka’s apartment. He’s literally climbing a tree and is given a change of clothes by his girlfriend along with a rifle, yes! You heard that right. On the other hand, Shizuo is trying to shake the tree. Tom tries to calm him down by saying that he looks like his younger brother which ended up annoying him more. That’s when Shizuo shook the tree a lot harder and it sent Tom across the sky!
Durarara!! Special 2: World At Peace
Durarara!! World At Peace is also one of the OVAs. It revolves around Yuuhei Heiwajima who’s in the city of Ikebukuro and is searching for the number 1 couple in the city! On the other hand, Simon (one of the owners of the sushi restaurants) is trying to promote his sushi.
His sushi is not ordinary and it’s called the “Russian Sushi”. Have you ever heard of Russian Sushi? It’s my first time hearing that. Anyways, Celty is busy at her home watching T.V. and Shinra (the guy living with Celty) is disappointed in her as always. He offers Celty to go out with him but she refuses. Then, this genius doctor aka Shinra tells her how he’s the brother of Shizuo. Now, what will be Celty’s reaction? Will she believe him? To find out, watch Durarara!!
Durarara!! x2 Shou
Even though peace has occurred in the city of Ikebukuro, many of the bizarre things still exist in this city. For instance, police chasing after the headless biker, Celty Sturluson. In fact, someone’s got something on Celty since the dangerous gangs are starting to look for her. Just what is the real identity of Celty? On the other hand, our MC, Mikado Ryugamine gets approached by one of his juniors. His junior, Aoba Kuronuma, has unknown intentions. Just what could he be wanting from Mikado?
However, peace didn’t stay for long as the new villain arrives in the city who murders people. This villain is known as “Hollywood” and wears a mysterious mask. Just what could Hollywood’s intention be? Will the city ever be able to provide peace for its people?
Durarara!! x2 TEN
Still exploring the city of Ikebukuro, the citizens’ fates are predestined and continue to intertwine with one another. Now, Mikado is only one step closer to achieving his goal of living an interesting and exciting life. After getting control over his previous rival, he uses his brand new powers. There are still some mysteries left in the city of Ikebukuro. How will Mikado deal with his previous rivals and the new alterations within the city? To find out, watch Durarara!! x2 TEN.

Just as Mikado and Masaomi start to think that things are falling in their places, they don’t know about the dominant force that is about to hit the city of Ikebukuro. Just what more could go wrong here? Will they let their anxieties control them?
Main Characters
Mikado Ryuugamine
Mikado Ryuugamine is one of the main characters of Durarara!! He’s known to be soft–hearted, warm, and kind. He speaks with others in a soft tone. This all is the cause of his upbringing in a small city. He was really confused when he first moved to the modern city of Ikebukuro. He felt a bit thrilled and anxious at the same time. Sometimes he felt insignificant as well.
Despite his fearful personality, he has a strong will. He doesn’t give up on things that easily. He’s nice to everyone but nobody knows about the dark side he hides. I won’t spoil it for you guys. If you’re curious about this boy, try watching Durarara!!
Masaomi Kida
Masaomi Kida is one of Mikado’s childhood friends. Since they were brought up together, they do have similarities. He’s quite a charismatic individual and has an extroverted nature as well. He isn’t really afraid of new things. Instead, he loves throwing himself in new opportunities and exploring more about them. Masaomi tends to make bad jokes which is why people don’t really find him funny. He tries to look cool sometimes in order to get a girl but his efforts are all in vain. Pro tip: YES! Girls love funny guys even though they might not show it!
Shizuo Heiwajima
Shizuo Heiwajima is one of the antagonists in the series with a wild nature. He’s very ruthless and violent with a heart made of stone. So, if you see him anywhere, hide instantly. Shizuo Heiwajima cares a lot about his reputation and would never leave anyone alone who’d look down on him, even as a joke. Shizuo is quite protective of kids and surprisingly, he cares about them as well. That’s his tsundere nature right there!
Celty Sturluson
Celty Sturluson aka “The Black Helmet” is a confident lady who is quite hopeful. Hopeful of what? Of finding her head of course. She lost her head in the city of Ikebukuro, so that’s why she seems to look for her head most of the time on her bike. That’s the sole reason she wears the helmet!
