YURI!!! ON ICE (2016)
Yuri!!! On Ice is a sports anime about figure skating that was animated by MAPPA studios. When it comes to realistic effects, Yuri!!! On Ice has the best effects. The story is about the relationship between two guys. One of them is Yuri Katsuki, who’s a figure skater. Yuri’s parents ran a bathhouse in Hasetsu, Japan.
Our boy did figure skating as a child at the Ice Castle along with his friends, Yuuko and Takeshi. His ballet teacher saw some spark in him and recommended him to do figure skating. Currently, he’s a top skater certified by JSF. (Japan Skating Federation)
After facing failure at the Grand Prix Final along with other losses, Yuri Katsuki started having doubts about the path that he created for himself. He wanted to put his career on hold and return to his old hometown after living for 5 years abroad.
The story begins when Yuri meets his childhood friend at the Ice Castle and perfectly copies the skating routine of his favorite Russian Idol, aka Victor Nikiforov. Victor happened to see the film Yuri recorded as he was skating.
This catches Victor’s attention, and he decides to travel all the way to Kyushu to offer Yuri to revive his dying figure skating career. It turns out that Victor had already met Yuri when he was drunk and was asking Victor to become his mentor.
Yuri takes a deep look at Victor’s offer and decides to go to Hasetsu to make sure Victor remembers the promise he made. He promised Yuri that he would make a routine for him. There are two Yuris, one is called Yuri P and Yuri K. Yuri P is the competitor of our MC, Yuri K. Now, there’s a figure skating championship coming up, and Victor decides to make two Yuris compete against each other and then he will decide whom he’s going to coach.
Now, both Yuris had to compete against each other and win the championship somehow. They both represent their respective countries and then qualify for the Grand Prix Final in Barcelona. Over this journey, Victor and Yuri K become quite close as they kiss in public. Yuri ends up buying gold rings to show that he’s engaged to Yuri. Both of the Yuris ended up winning silver and gold medals. Thus, both of them start getting coached by Victor.
The time for the first competition arrives when Victor and Yuri fly to Beijing, where they come across Victor’s coach aka Yakov, who’s is also a Russian skater. Phichit sees Yuri and Victor, he decides to call out his coach along with two other competitors. The competitors were Leo De La Iglesia from America and Guang Hong Ji from China.
Finally, the day of the competition, arrives and the skaters encounter their competitors. The story moves on to a series of short programs where six competitors perform flawlessly. Since Yuri did pretty well, he finds himself in first place by surpassing his own best score.
Now, free skating in the Cup of China has arrived. Yuri is nervous and tired at the same time. He wasn’t really able to sleep the previous night. Victor told him to take a nap but he was just too worried to do anything. As the competitors pass, he keeps on getting tense. That’s when Victor takes him to a quiet place where hei can’t hear any noises from the competition.
Since his turn is about to come, Victor is thinking of ways to motivate the boy. Yuri starts crying and begs Victor to have faith in him. Doing so makes him feel better and he goes out in the audience and mimics Victor’s flip then Victor steps in and kisses him to surprise
The final competition of the Grand Prix takes place in Russia. The other Yuri is excited to meet his grandfather again in Russia. On the other hand, the OG (original) Yuri tries his best to avoid people in the hotel’s lobby. However, he finds himself with the competitors. These skaters are from Korea, Czech, and Italy respectively. He delivers flawless performance and comes in the second place. After the match, Yuri finds out that Victor’s dog choked on sticky buns, so he left for Japan leaving Yuri alone in Russia.
Since Victor was gone, Yuri was under Yakov’s guidance for free skating. Yuri delivers another smooth performance. However, with Victor gone, he’s unable to do his very best. Russian and OG Yuri shared a meal before he goes back to Hasetsu and finds Victor along with his perfectly fine dog.
Victor and Yuri make it to Barcelona, Spain for the Grand Prix Final. Victor introduces Yuri to the six competitors who have made it to the finals along with Chris. In the lobby, Yuri meets JJ and his girlfriend. A Kazakhstan skater is also introduced to him. The very next day, Yuri ends up sharing a bed with the Kazakhstani skater and that’s how the two of them become friends.
On the other hand, Yuri and Victor do shopping and sightseeing. Then, they arrive at the night market, where Yuri buys gold rings for Victor as a Christmas present. After they exchange rings, they get invited to a dinner by Minaki and Mari, along with other finalists. Phichit notices the rings and then asks the restaurant to congratulate them. Finally, the day of the competition arrives and Yuri says that he’s sure he’s going to win the match today.
As a sign of good luck, Victor kisses Yuri’s ring and plans a flip as his final move. Yuri is the first one to perform, but he’s unable to do his very best. Other competitors try their best and perform flawlessly. Yuri and Victor sit down to talk while Yuri asks, “Let’s end this”. WHOA! That’s so sudden!
The night before, the free skating didn’t really go well for our boys. Both of them come up with difficult decisions regarding their futures. It’s the final day of the Grand Prix where JJ is the first one to perform on the ice. He manages to perform well. Then, Phichit performs, and he’s happy that he could entertain everyone with his performance.
When Yuri’s turn to perform comes, he ends up performing perfectly and breaking Victor’s world record. It is at this moment where Victor decides to be competitive and skate. At last, Yuri tried his best to win the gold medal, but he couldn’t. That’s why he begs Victor to coach him, he agrees to coach Yuri.

Yuri!!! On Ice: Yuri Plisetsky GPS in Barcelona EX “Welcome To the Madness” is the only special episode of this anime. Welcome To The Madness is a song written by Umebayashi and the vocals are by Steve Mcnair. It is a heavy metal and rock style song. If these two genres are your favorites, you’re going to love this song. This song was supposed to be played at Yuri Plisetsky’s exhibition skate but it wasn’t shown within the first season.
Otabek Altin – the Kazakhstani skater, appears in his exhibition but doesn’t skate with him. Instead, he stands at the side of the rink. He helps pull off Yuri’s gloves and also shoots him with a finger gun where Yuri pretends to die on the rink. LOL! How cute is that?
YURI!!! ON ICE: ICE ADOLESCENCE (NOT AIRED)
Yuri!!! On Ice: Ice Adolescence was supposed to release in 2019 but it has been delayed to a later date. None of the synopsis is known yet. This is Yuri!!! On Ice’s movie. Let’s see when it comes out!
