Introduction
Malty is one of the most hated characters ever written not just in the series, but throughout the entire anime world. She is the main antagonist of The Rising of the Shield Hero.
She is a manipulative and cruel individual whose hobby is betraying those who put their trust in her. She uses her beauty and her status to cheat people and she does it without ever feeling any kind of remorse.

I’m sure you all at least once fantasized about her death and hoped it will be a long and painful one. I’m sure I did!
However, the fact remains that without her presence, there wouldn’t be much of a story to begin with, so we can give her existence some credit.

Appearance
When Naofumi first sets eyes on Malty, he directly describes the snake as a “lovely girl”. Well, we can’t deny that she looks good.
She has crimson wavy hair that she ties up in a ponytail. Her eyes have a beautiful green color that resembles emeralds. Compared to Naofumi, she is a tiny bit shorter than him. She wears beautiful armor designed with shiny jewels in almost every nook and cranny.
After she revealed her true colors, the Shield Hero said that her beauty was wasted on her and that she was pointlessly attractive (The Rising of The Shield Hero Anime: Season 1 Episode 1).
Personality
When you first encounter Malty, she will act as a kind and friendly individual who is always looking for your best interest. If you are a boy, she’ll act flirty and cute. But don’t be deceived since that witch is a malicious psychopath and her negative traits are too many to enumerate.
But, I’ll give you some examples since it’s funny how disgusting this girl is. Malty is a pathological liar, she’s narcissistic, selfish, arrogant, deceitful, two-faced, dishonest, immoral, spiteful, obnoxious, and tyrannical.
Her best skills are deception and manipulation, her acting skills are top-notch, and she loves to insult everyone she thinks is beneath her, which is basically everyone, and has a knack for making people completely miserable.
Malty is willing to do any kind of atrocity to get what she wants. She was determined to assassinate her own little sister and was even ready to deliver the final blow herself (The Rising of The Shield Hero Anime: Season 1 Episode 10).
The first Princess is also extremely irresponsible. She uses the country’s treasury for her own extravagant expenses. Greedy to a devilish point, she increases taxes on villages hit by the Waves and are barely standing on their feet.
She has no respect for herself and her body, and she previously used her charms and favors to get benefits from various people. The one who fell for her the most is, of course, baka-Motoyasu who doesn’t doubt a word coming out of her mouth.
Background
Malty was the first Princess of Melromarc. Normally, she should have been the one next in line to succeed the throne, however, her reckless and unworthy behavior made her lose her spot, which was given to her little sister, Melty Q. Melromarc.
Ever since, she has been trying to win back her title through petty schemes and tricking people with power, like for example, Motoyasu, the new Spear Hero.
Later on, she was found guilty of many crimes against the Shield Hero and against Melty whom she tried to kill. She was sentenced to death by her own mother, the Queen, and was saved by Naofumi out of pity.
He declared that her new name was “B****” and that her new adventurer name was “S***” and ended it at that (The Rising of The Shield Hero Anime: Season 1 Episode 21).
Now disowned and on her own, she still didn’t learn her lesson since she stabbed the other three Heroes in the back and consequently became a wanted criminal.
It was later explained by the Queen and Melty that Malty’s horrible personality was the consequence of her father’s behavior towards her as he spoiled her rotten throughout her entire childhood.

Natural & Learned Abilities
Malty doesn’t really have any natural skills. She carries around a sword but she doesn’t really know how to use it. In the battlefield, you can barely consider her strong.
If trickery was an ability then that would be her only strong point. She’s a master in that domain and I doubt anyone will ever surpass her.
Magic
Malty is a fire-type mage but can also use to some extent wind magic.

As you know, Malty and Naofumi have an unbreakable relationship based on mutual hate and disdain.
Malty was the one who betrayed him and yet pins all her misfortune on the dude who’s only defending himself.
Even after sparing her life, Malty didn’t feel any kind of gratitude towards the Shield Hero who showed her mercy. Pathetic, isn’t she?
Motoyasu Kitamura

Motoyasu is even more pathetic than Malty. He’s her little dog that obeys every command for a threat.
Naïve and gullible, he believes every lie that comes out of her mouth. I mean, a brainwashing shield, that’s ridiculous! If he had that he wouldn’t have been in that mess in the first place! (The Rising of The Shield Hero Anime: Season 1 Episode 10)
When Malty was finally finished using him, she threw him away like an old sock and he witnessed her insulting him to Ren.
Shocked, he began to see all women as pigs and even awakened the Spear’s Curse Series.
Ren Amaki
(Sword Hero)
Ren also didn’t doubt the princess’s words when she first accused Naofumi but at least he realized that she was trying to kill Melty. Better than nothing, it’s not like it was poking his eye or anything.
Who would have thought that Ren was as gullible as Motoyasu since the idiot, even after learning everything about Malty, still got deceived by her and had everything he cherished stolen, and awakened the Sword’s Curse Series as a result.
Itsuki Kawasumi
(Bow Hero)
In the end, Itsuki is no better than Ren. He was tricked just like he was, awakened the Pride Curse Series, and started trusting only the people who praised him.
Aultcray Melromarc XXXII
(Staff Hero)
He’s the King of Melromarc and Malty’s father. He spoiled her rotten since her childhood and encouraged all her evil schemes especially when they were targeting the Shield Hero.
Raphtalia
Raphtalia absolutely detests Malty for what she made Naofumi go through while Malty only sees her as an annoying bug.
Melty Q Melromarc
Malty’s little sister, she took her place as the crowned Princess. Malty tried to kill her multiple times to take back the throne.
Mirellia Q Melromarc
She’s the Queen of Melromarc and Malty’s mother. Despite her love for her daughter, Malty despises her.

She was like Malty, a member of the Spear Hero’s party.
Mald
He was a member of the Bow Hero’s party. The only thing that made them grow closer is their respective hatred for the Shield Hero.

Plot
Malty’s world is in grave danger. Waves of catastrophe are threatening to completely destroy it. The only way to save it is to rely on the strength of the Four Cardinal Heroes that have to be summoned from another world. The ritual began, and the chosen ones appeared in Melromarc.
Motoyasu Kitamura was given the title of the Spear Hero, Ren Amaki became the Sword Hero, Itsuki Kawasumi turned into the Bow Hero and the one who drew the short straw was Naofumi Iwatani who endorsed the role of the Shield Hero (The Rising of The Shield Hero Anime: Season 1 Episode 1).
Although he didn’t possess a weapon, Naofumi was quite excited to find himself in a game-like environment. Optimistic and naïve, the beautiful Malty proposed to be a part of his party and he accepted her with open hands.
However, for her, he was nothing more than an easy target. She betrayed him, stole all his money, and accused him of taking advantage of her.
Naofumi denied all the accusations but no one believed him. Despised by the entire land and looked at with disgust by his so-called comrades, he decided to set out on his own.
At that moment, Naofumi changed. Suffering from a terrible trauma, the kind and cheerful Hero turned into a cruel and full of hatred individual. And yet, he still had to try and save that world that threw him away in order to get back to Japan.
