ALL Meliodas' Forms And Power Levels Ranked (Seven Deadly Sins)

meliodas thumbnail

Meliodas, the mighty leader of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Dragon’s Sin of Wrath, the former Holy Knight, former leader of the Ten Commandments, and the eldest son and heir of the Demon King. All these titles and the attributes that come with them make him one of the most powerful anime characters of all time, and for a reason. Since he’s a demon, he has insane levels of power in both physical and magical terms, and even his own father fears him for a reason.

In this blog entry, we will look at all of Meliodas‘ different forms, take a look at his strengths and weaknesses, and how he measures against other characters of the series.

But before we get to the actual list, let’s take a look at one extra entry, since this form of his is the least known.

Meliodas from three thousand years in the past is a bit of a mystery. We know he was the leader of the Ten Commandments, the Commandment of Love, the most powerful among them, and the pride of his father, the Demon King (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 268). At this stage of his life, it’s safe to say he was pure and unbound evil.

His powers, capabilities, and possible weaknesses can not be summed up, since he only measured against people similar to him in power. The human factor was not there to compare against (as opposed to the present day), so there can be no real measure for his power from those times.

What is definitely true is that he was a mass murderer, killing members of the Goddess Clan with ease, and without little remorse. This means, even then he was considerably powerful, even if not as powerful as he is in the present day. He was still young after all.

And now on to his actual forms seen most in the actual story.

Power Level: 3370

This form of Meliodas is what we get to know him in and is clearly the weakest in all possible terms. In this form, he’s basically the most vulnerable and easiest to underestimate. The pint-sized former Holy Knight had decided to seal his true powers away so that his Deadly Sin Power of Wrath would never cause the same disaster as after losing Liz, his previous love.

In this form, he’s not just weak looking, but also rather weak. His biggest advantage though, is him being able to use his Full Counter ability, giving him the ability to mirror enemy attacks back at even greater force. Keep in mind though, that even in this form, he’s much stronger than the majority of the other characters of the story.

In Sealed Base Form, his only physical weapon is the Dragon’s Handle, a broken sword that literally has just a handle and a broken piece of a blade left of it. However, it’s also an incredibly useful tool in using Full Counter, which often ends with his opponents being stripped of more than just their power within a few blinks of a second.

In Episode 15 (Chapter 57) he gains possession of Liz’s old sword, a small memento of Liz, his recent lover. He’s able to use Full Counter with this blade as well and uses it until it’s broken in a fight against the first Albion.

Power Level: 4070

After Liz’s Sword was broken in the battle against the first Albion at the start of season 2, Meliodas was in need of a weapon, and Merlin, who had been holding on to it, returned his Sacred Treasure, Lostvayne (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2, Episode 3, Manga: Chapter 115). Meliodas is still pretty much the same as in his base form, and gains just a small fraction more strength thanks to it in terms of overall power.

However, with this weapon in hand, he gains a new magic ability, the ability to multiply. He can create a number of temporary clones of himself, but the more he creates, the weaker each clone is, and they each have a mind of their own. However, as a combination attack, each clone using Full Counter exponentially increases the power of the mirrored attacks.

Meliodas uses this to his advantage and annihilates the Albion alone, even though until then, a number of others, including some sins, weren’t strong enough to really put up a fight against it.

9. Sealed Demon Mark

Power Level: 4400

Every time Meliodas needs more power than what his base form can allow him, he resorts to releasing part of his dormant demon powers, which causes his Demon Mark to appear on his forehead. In this form, he gains a moderate amount of power, just enough to push him over a threshold, and regain his position as the strongest sin. The Demon Mark is first revealed when Golgius tries to take the Dragon’s Handle from Meliodas. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 1, Episode 5)

In his sealed form of course this isn’t really a big boost, as his powers are suppressed still, but it’s enough to put the fear into any of his lesser opponents and gives him enough to be able to put Ban, who loses control of his snatch ability, back in his place. He’s physically stronger and faster in this form.

When Meliodas loses control of his demon powers and lets them flow freely, his demonic powers overflow. They give him a new, savage form with his dark aura power taking the form of large, powerful crushing hands and the dark flames crawling up large portions of his body.

In this form, it’s the demon powers that are controlling him and he has no direct control over them. It’s his instinct and his inner wrath controlling everything he does. This form is quite dangerous, but thanks to his powers being sealed, he’s rather easy to put down again as done by Galand early into season 2. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2 Episode 5, Manga: Chapters 120 and 121)

Power Level: 32500

Since the Ten Commandments were set free once again after 3000 years, the Seven Deadly Sins desperately needed a power boost. Meliodas thus needed to resort to breaking the seal he had deliberately placed on him and released his true powers. (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Season 2, episode 9-11, Manga: Chapters 131 to 139)

His initial power level is already many leagues above anything he’s ever had before that, complete with insane speed, far superior physical strength, and a returning sense of self confidence.

Hawk, who gained the ability to read power levels thanks to the earring he’s wearing, notes that he thinks Meliodas lost power instead of gaining it, until Merlin informs him that he read the number wrong. Indeed he was, since he was missing a 0 from the end of it.

Later, Meliodas demonstrates his newly found powers by beating up Galand (Seven Deadly Sins Anime: Episode 11) who humiliated him before and showing off by beating two other commandments with relative ease, only to be put down by his brother, Zeldris.

Much like his base form, thanks to his unsealed powers, Meliodas gains considerable extra power with his Demon Mark as well. Superior in physical fighting prowess, he literally owns the zone when going fist to fist with any opponent.

He used this form for the first time in the fight against Drole and Gloxinia, and pretty much owned both of them with never before seen ease. (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapters 171 to 173). It took the intervention of the other commandments to stop him from killing both without really even breaking a sweat.

After having been killed by Zeldris and Estarossa in their previous fight (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapters 174 to 177), Meliodas was sent into a state of coma, slowly recovering and at the same time, greatly increasing in power. Thanks to this though, he lost his emotions, which also removed a limiter on him, and once he was revived, his power was fully unleashed.

Thanks to this boost, Meliodas supposedly reached his peak from 3000 years ago, and also gained a base for reaching even greater heights in power over time. He was single handedly able to beat Monspeet and Derieri just after waking up. (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 189)

Losing his emotions upon dying and being revived, however, also caused Meliodas to sink back to an all-time low in his moral status. He became much more unhinged, and would soon rejoin sides with the demon clan, even if temporarily.

As with the previous times, with his demon mark being active, Meliodas gains once more 1.5 times the power he already had, and thanks to his new, unhinged persona, he’s far more aggressive and more ruthless than ever.

This is especially shown when obliterating Fraudrin without any remorse or second thought (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapters 194 and 195). This ruthless side of his has caused him to become a controversial character, but at the same time, he’s also finally showing his true self hidden under the careless and fun loving guise.

Power Level: 142000-180000

Assault mode is Meliodas‘ most savage and unbridled form, an all out fighting machine with power levels so high, he’s able to outmatch every last one of not just the commandments, but even the Seven Deadly sins as well.

To best picture just how powerful this form of his is, he not only effortlessly fought back against Escanor’s otherwise monstrous strength and magic power but even managed to gain one up on him, without really much struggle (Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 231 and 232).

Escanor at this point was the strongest of the Seven Sins, even stronger than Meliodas, somewhere at 120000 or so power level. That at the time was just ridiculous, and even this much power wasn’t enough to gain the upper hand against assault mode.

Escanor needed to resort to using his ultimate weapon, “The One“. In this form, he’s technically untouchable for just one minute at high noon. This was needed to stop the raging Meliodas, even if only temporarily.

(Purgatory first introduced in Seven Deadly Sins Manga: Chapter 182, Anime: Season 2, Episode 21)

Meliodas, or to be more precise, his emotions, spent considerable time in purgatory, locked away in an unending fight against hordes of monsters until Ban came to his rescue. After the two friends reunited and returned to the realm of the living, they both greatly grew in power.

This growth in power was in fact so great that Ban became the second most powerful member of the Seven Deadly Sins, retaining his old position he lost when Escanor returned to them. While working together with Meliodas, he fought successfully against the Demon King, controlling Meliodas’s body.

Thanks to the long and hard fights in Purgatory, Meliodas’ power became tenfold the original, and with the help of Ban and all his other friends, he was able to regain control of his body once more.

Meliodas, who had lost his emotions in Purgatory ultimately ended up uniting all of the ten commandments. After using them, he gained ultimate power, becoming the new Demon King. Without his emotions, the Demon King took control of his body and was dead set on destroying everything Meliodas stood for and loved.

The Seven Deadly Sins and all of their comrades fought valiantly, but ultimately they needed a miracle to overcome a threat as great as this, and it arrived in the form of Ban and a returning Meliodas. Meliodas ultimately managed to regain control over his own body and purge his father from it.

After this difficult fight, they were finally able to join forces and finally defeat the demon king, leaving Meliodas with the power of the ten commandments. This made him into a celestial being, a danger to all living beings, the world itself, and would need to leave the world to save it from destruction.

Meliodas ultimately decided to do the other sensible thing and destroyed the ten commandments, reverting to his original form, and losing his godly powers. But gaining the fortune of being able to stay in our world, free himself from the Demon King’s curse. He eventually married Elisabeth and lived a happy, fulfilling family life as the king of Liones. (Seven Deadly Sins, New Holy War and Demon King Arcs of the Manga, Chapters 257 to 334, and Anime Season 3 episode 21 to the entirety of Season 4).

Conclusion

meliodas

And that concludes our list. I believe it’s safe to say, Meliodas, even if not on the same level as the likes of Goku or other legendary Shounen anime heroes, is one of the mightiest and most versatile characters to grace the realm of anime.

Although the later seasons of the Seven Deadly Sins were often criticized for the quality of their animation, the way the story was delivered and the fact that the creators put their heart into everything else, speaks much for how much they loved working on it. I personally think it was a great story, regardless of the animation. The ever standing truth is, graphics are and will always be the last and least important aspect to judge an anime by.
