Shaman King has 52 Manga Canon episodes in total with no filler episodes. Do you know what it means? Yes, you don’t have to worry about fillers while binge watching a shaman with his samurai friend on their journey fighting the evil spirits.

Well, I am really hoping that these characters will be successful in fighting all kinds of evil spirits, because the evil spirit of laziness is really killing my hope and responsibility to write this blog.

WHAT IS SHAMAN KING?

Shaman King

Hiroyuki Takei is the author and illustrator of the Japanese manga series, Shaman King. The exploits of Yoh Asakura, a shaman who aims to be the next Shaman King by dominating the Shaman Fight, are the focus of this story. It was Takei’s goal to write about shamanism, which had never been done before in manga, as the series’ central subject.

Shaman King was initially featured in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from June 1998 to August 2004. 32 tankobon volumes compiled the separate chapters. With the acquisition of the rights in 2017, Kodansha began the series again in 2018 with 35 e-book volumes, which were released in print starting in 2020.

PLOT

Shaman KingThe plot of this anime revolves around a shaman, Yoh Asakura, a mediator between the realms of living and dead. Yoh wants to become the Shaman King, a shaman who can communicate with the Great Spirit and remake the universe in any manner they like, and to do so, he must not lose in the Shaman Fight, a competition between shamans that occurs once every 500 years. I can feel the pressure all the way here!

To prepare for the competition, Anna Kyoyama, Yoh’s fiancee, recommends a hard training routine. The beginning of the narrative that would lead Yoh to become friends with Tao Ren, Manta Oyamada, Ryu, Faust VIII, Lyserg Diethel, Horohoro, and Joco McDonnell starts. They are one of the characters you should watch out for in watching Shaman King.

Hao Asakura, Yoh’s twin brother, is a powerful shaman who wants to eliminate humanity and build a society for shamans during the Shaman Fight. The remaining teams are Yoh and his buddies, the X-Laws, and Hao’s squad after the conclusion of the shaman fights.

As a result of the other teams’ decision to surrender the event, Hao has been crowned Shaman King. To prevent Hao from fusing with the Great Spirit, Yoh and the others plan to assault him while he’s unconscious. They must defeat the Patch Tribe Members who want to serve the newest Shaman King in order to defeat Hao as well.

Shaman King 2Hao becomes the new Shaman King after Yoh and his comrades defeat the Patch Tribe’s 10 leaders. He beats Yoh as well as all of his companions, then merges their souls into his own. Horohoro, Yoh, Ren, Lyserg, and Chocolove fight Hao within the Great Spirit with the help of the five all-known spirits: the Earth Spirit, the Thunder Spirit, the Rain Spirit, the Fire Spirit, and the Wind Spirit.

They use the five known spirits to defeat Hao. In the Great Spirit, it is shown that now the Great Spirit fulfilled Hao’s request for some to take back his mother’s spirit, as previous colleagues of Yoh and his buddies start showing around. Hao’s mother is taken to a Great Spirit with Anna’s aid.

When Hao’s mother says he must forgive mankind for killing her, he accepts. As a result, Hao postpones his intention to exterminate humanity in favor of watching how Yoh, as well as his friends, improve the planet.

Seven years have passed on Earth when Yoh and Anna return, Hana is still waiting for the five mythical warriors at the train station where he grew up.

CHARACTERS

Yoh Asakura

Yoh Asakura

With his ability to sense spirits and his desire to become the Shaman King, he swiftly makes friends with Manta and discloses his plans to him.  He promised to Anna Kyoyama, his fiancee, that he would make her life as comfortable as possible when he turns into the Shaman King.

He always wants to make the world a better place so no one would have to go through what he went through.

Anna Kyōyama

Anna Kyoyama

As the fiancée of Yoh Asakura and a strong itako, Anna Kyoyama can call channel spirits including from Heaven. When it comes to Yoh’s training, she is merciless in her efforts to assure his victory within the Shaman Tournament but also in his promotion to the title of Shaman King.

Yoh, Manta, and Anna are all students at Shinra Private Academy. As the Aomori Prefecture Police Department’s mascot, she has featured in many of Hiroyuki Takei’s prior works, notably Itako no Anna and Butsu Zone.

Manta Oyamada

Manta Oyamada

Manta Oyamada, addressed as Mortimer “Morty” Manta, is Yoh’s closest buddy and the very first human to attempt to understand Yoh without prejudice. He studies in Shinra Private Academy alongside Yoh and Anna and is an educated, thoughtful child who always has a book alongside him.

He is exceedingly self-conscious about his little stature, which has led to him being mistaken for a Koropokuru, a bashful nature spirit of northern Japan. Although he’s not a shaman, he is able to sense ghosts and is loyal to Yoh, despite his lack of psychic skills. Manta is the major narrator of the occurrences of Shaman King throughout the series.
