Tokyo Special Division 4
Denji
Denji is the protagonist of the series and the one who’s our primary point of view into the story of the Chainsaw Man. Denji isn’t your typical teenager who wants to procrastinate and watch Netflix have fun in his spare time, but his childhood if truth be told is truly tragic. Denji’s father left the world and transferred his enormous debt to Yakuza to his only child, and due to that our Denji was unable to have a formal education because he was busy working for Yakuza as a Devil Hunter and collector. The first time you will see Denji on your screens, you will be quite startled because he will be there with a few parts of his body missing as he used them to pay off his debt to the Yakuza.

The life of Denji changed when he was killed by the Zombie Devil but thanks to his pet dog Pochita, who was a devil himself, he came back to life as the Chainsaw Man! The moment you see Denji you will realize that he isn’t the smartest person in the room by quite some distance but there is some strange instinct of survival that takes over Denji when he is confronted with life-threatening scenarios which result in him making some really intelligent strategies to overcome the obstacles his opponents present him with.
There is no character we can use to give an idea of what Denji is like because he just might be one of the most unique protagonists we have seen in recent times.
Makima
We can spend hours talking about Makima, but it won’t still do justice to how complex and well-written her character is. She is one of the leading Devil Hunters in Japan and the person responsible for bringing Denji to the organization that deals with threats related to devils. The most distinct feature of Makima’s appearance is her light red hair and yellow eyes that surround her in a mysterious aura but for good reason! There is no confirmation for what her exact age is but she is definitely in her twenties but still at such a high position in the organization she works with, which shows how powerful she will be!
The first time you will see her you might feel a little uncomfortable as she comes on as a really strong personality and even called Denji her pet after the latter agreed to do what she wants to avoid being killed by her. The most recognizable feature of Makima as a Devil Hunter is that she can smell the threat and differentiate between devils very easily which makes hiding or escaping from her almost impossible! We are sure you will fall in love with Makima but be careful, she is hiding a few facts that you really might not want to learn about.
Power
If you are into ill-mannered, cheeky, and self-centered characters then Power is your girl! Power is a fiend, which means that the person we see has been dead and the body has been possessed by some devil. The devils lose a lot of their powers and even their true purpose to some extent when they become friends.
Power’s distinctive features as a fiend are her red horns which make the other person know that she is not a normal human and should be avoided at any cost. The reason Power is working in the Public Safety organization is due to her being scared of Makima and you will see this as a common recurring theme throughout the show. There will be times when she will blatantly lie and blame others for her mistakes just to avoid getting into trouble.
She is one of the most amazing characters despite her greedy personality and someone that the viewers will enjoy!
Aki Hayakawa
If you were wondering where the mentor was up till now, then you will be glad to know more about Aki Hayakawa. The cool and calm man will remind the viewers of Levi Ackermann from Attack on Titan, but just a slightly more toned-down version as Aki isn’t as authoritative or rude as Levi.
He is one of the few characters in the show that wants nothing more than to protect those close to them and is willing to put his own life on the line to do so. Initially, you might feel that he is really cold, but as the story progresses you will learn why he is quite adamant to develop more relationships and that is honestly really heart-touching.
Aki’s main weapon is his sword but he also established a contract with the Fox Devil and uses that in combat with powerful enemies!
Pochita
If you are a dog lover who also likes chainsaws a lot then you should do everything in your power to make Pochita your pet. Pochita is a really powerful devil but appears as a small dog with a chainsaw between his head which shows that he is the embodiment of the fear of chainsaws. Pochita cares about Denji and wants nothing more in the world to make Denji’s wishes come true.
He might look really cute but in his true form, he is someone that will leave you with stiff feet. It’s quite wonderful to see the dynamic personality of Pochita in two different forms and you will enjoy every scene with him being on your screens.
Kobeni Higashiyama
We are sure you have been wondering where the character that is scared of everything is and you will be glad to know, she is finally here! Kobeni is one of the recruits working under Makima’s squad and is perhaps the biggest coward you will see.
There are moments where she steps up and faces her fears while staring them in the eye but it’s highly unlikely that we will witness these moments in the first season. The only reason she is doing this job is that her family forced her to do so, but despite this, she cares about her family, especially her siblings, and wants to do everything she can for them to have a good future ahead of them!
Himeno
If you ever wondered what Kaneki would have looked like if he was a woman, then this is your lucky day, as Himeno looks similar to the character design of the protagonist from Tokyo Ghoul. Himeno rocks a black suit with an eye patch covering her right eye. She is one of the most intelligent devil hunters you will see throughout the show and her ability to know more about people just by watching them is unmatched! She is a really good mentor to her underlings and is one of the most important characters in the early story arcs of the series.
She established a contract with the Ghost Devil which allows her to use an invisible arm that is powerful and can overpower her opponents during combat.

Kishibe
Kishibe is perhaps one of the strongest characters you will see during the show and is also one of the most respected members of the Public Safety organization that is responsible to deal with the threats of devils.
Prinz
If you are afraid of spiders, then you should watch Prinz with your hands covering your eyes as she is the Spider Devil herself. She often rocks her eight legs while in combat but can also take the human form that lets her fit into society without much trouble.
Fushi
Fushi is a devil hunter whose most charming characteristic is his insanely high IQ score which he will tell everyone without asking.
Madoka
You will see Madoka briefly during the Gun Devil arc, but he will be someone you remember as the guy who survived.
Hirokazu Arai
The partner of Kobeni Higashiyama is a character that one might relate to most during the series. He is a good individual who wants to get stronger to protect the people he cares about but unfortunately isn’t blessed with any real talents that might help him in his mission.
Galgali (Violence Fiend)
If there was a character that personified the saying that never judges a book by its cover, then that’s Violence Fiend. The man wants nothing more than peace and it’s quite contradictory to how fiends areas he can overpower the wishes of the devil inside him due to him having a lot of memories of his past human self.
Tokyo Division 2
Furuno
Furuno is a member of the second division of the Public Safety organization.
Kato
Kata is a member of the second division of the Public Safety organization and was in contract with the Mold Devil.
Nomo
Nomo will be a recurring character during the Bomb Girl arc and despite not having much screen time, will be remembered by the viewers due to the scars on his face.
Tanabe
Tanabe, just like Kato, is a member of the second division of the Public Safety organization and was in contract with the Mold Devil.
Masaki Ando
If you ever wondered if there was a person with a gun who would first ask for permission to use it from their superiors even in drastic situations, then Masaki Ando is your guy!
Nakamura
Nakamura is one of the guys you will see during the International Assassins arc and he will serve primarily as the head of the bodyguards protecting Denji.
Tokyo Division 5
Quanxi
Quanxi is a devil hunter from China and is one of the most powerful characters you will see during the show. She might remind you of Roronoa Zoro from One Piece as she also uses three distinct swords during combat.
Katana Man
The main antagonist of the Katana Man arc wants nothing more than revenge against Denji for taking his grandfather away from him. He is a normal guy until he transforms into his hybrid form so be careful if you are scared of Katanas.
Reze
Reze is one of the most popular characters according to die-hard fans and you will be fascinated by her other name – Bomb Girl! She is called that because she is the Bomb Devil and acts as the primary antagonist of the Bomb Girl arc.
Kyoto Division 1
Subaru
You might remember the name from Re: Zero but this Subaru is anything like the boy we saw in Luganica. Subaru is a devil hunter that we will see in the International Assassins arc.
Yutatro Kurose
Yutaro is a member of the first division of the Public Safety organization and his primary purpose in life is to take revenge on the Gun Devil.
Michiko Tendo
Michiko is one of the coolest female characters we see during the show but her motivation to come into this line of work was also to take revenge from the Gun Devil just like Yutaro.
Kyoto Division 2
Kusakabe
He is one of the bodyguards assigned to protect Denji by Makima. He is one of the best in the business too according to Makima.
Tamaoki
Tamaoki is one of the bodyguards assigned to protect Denji after his existence is leaked in the media.
Private Sector Devil Hunters
Hirofumi Yoshida
Yoshida is also one of the three main bodyguards assigned to protect Denji but might be the person with the most screen time among the three.
Akane Sawatari
Akane is a minor antagonist during the Katana Man arc and works with the Snake Devil.
Santa Claus
Santa Claus is the primary antagonist of the International Assassins arc and is one of the most interesting characters during the show due to her ability to have not one but two bodies thanks to her being in a contract with the Doll Devil.
Tolka
Tolka was a devil hunter from the Soviet Union who made an appearance during the International Assassins arc. He will also have a pretty intense fight with Denji so be prepared for that.
Aldo
Aldo is a devil hunter from the United States and perhaps one of the nicest people you will meet during the series.
Joey
Joey was a devil hunter from the United States that we see briefly during the International Assassins arc.
Devils
Cosmo
Cosmo is the Cosmos Fiend and a member of Quanxi’s group.
Long
Long is a member of Quanxi’s group and we briefly see her during the International Assassins arc.
Pingsti
Pingsti is a member of Quanxi’s group and can see what type of Devil is in contact with any human she sees.
Tsugihagi
Tsugihagi was a member of Quanxi’s group but we never saw her speak during the series.
Gun Devil
The Gun Devil is perhaps one of the strongest characters we will witness during the run of events and is responsible for the deaths of so many people. He is the embodiment of the fear of guns and is going to be a constant character in the background throughout the story.
Beam
Beam boasts one of the most hilarious character designs we have seen during the show, as he is a shark combined with a man. He is really fun to be around and is going to be one of the fan favorites when he first makes an appearance.
Angel Devil
Surprisingly, some people are afraid of angels, but that’s what the Angel Devil is the embodiment of. He is a devil hunter himself for some very ambiguous reasons but you will enjoy his conflicting personality.
