To Your Eternity is one of the big guns of the Spring 2021 season, and it’s surely fun to watch! The show explores the story of an immortal being sent to Earth with the task to gather information about everything. This entity can take the form of others who brought some kind of emotion out of him or at least died close. The entity discovers many forms of life throughout his journey, and learns valuable lessons about emotions, even developing some himself.
If you are interested in shows like this, in the genres of drama, adventure, and supernatural, then you are at the right place! In this list, I will introduce fourteen anime that resemble To Your Eternity, and will give you a fun time watching them!
Table of Contents
The list obviously isn’t containing every anime that is similar to Fumetsu no Anata e but contains the ones that have a strong connection both to the audience and their respective genres.

14. The Promised Neverland

Both Promised Neverland and To Your Eternity have characters struggling for a better future and exploring the secrets of their worlds. If you are in for the adventure, both anime will satisfy you as they heavily involve showcasing different areas throughout the story.
Promised Neverland is about young children living in a seemingly normal orphanage. There are many kids with a wide age range, but somehow the adoptions of the kids there are regular events. They eventually find out that they are just cattle for brain-eating demons who basically raise and harvest them. This discovery leads to their struggle to break out of their cage. The amazing synergy of the main characters and the thrilling question of lore keep the audience focused on the show!
13. Angel Beats

Angel Beats is a show about teenagers fighting against their fate as they are trapped in a world of being high schoolers forever! The anime tackles the topic of immortality and the initial surprise of the said fact, just like To Your Eternity.
Angel Beats is a heartbreaking story of unfulfilled lives. These characters are transported into a new world after their deaths where they constantly revive after dying. They fight the so-called Angel, who is thought to be the one enforcing the will of “God”, although the situation is much simpler. Everyone there has to achieve things they couldn’t do in their normal lives and thus, they will receive salvation. The truth behind the world of Angel Beats won’t leave you without tears!
12. Clannad

Clannad is known for its emotional story and many sorrowful events, which makes it similar to Fumetsu no Anata e. The hard truth of hopeless reality makes both of these anime hard to ignore.
Clannad is not really a well-respected show by itself, but the sequel, namely After Story singlehandedly redeemed the first season. The interesting thing about this anime is that as most romance-comedy shows end when the characters graduate from high school, Clannad lets us take a look at how young adults live. It showcases the hardships of financial problems, starting a family, and the pain of losing your loved ones. Clannad’s main idea is the importance of family, and it surely is a wonderful story!
11. Anohana

AnoHana, just like Clannad, focuses on the emotional trauma of losing people close to you. It shares the aspect of the hardships of characters with To Your Eternity. Both shows have sequences of dealing with loneliness and having to say goodbye to your loved ones.
AnoHana, despite having an obnoxiously long original title, builds its whole story around one single event: the death of Menma, a young girl who was loved by her friends, and their struggle to forget about her at once. Most of them seemed to have given up on Menma, except the protagonist, Jintan, who starts to have visions about her. He tries to unite the group again, and make them face their past. The pain both the characters and the viewers’ experience makes this anime one of its kind!
10. Charlotte

If you love mysteries and the supernatural stuff, then no wonder Charlotte will please you just like To Your Eternity. Their biggest strength is the usage of supporting characters, who easily outshine the protagonists.
Charlotte actually had an opportunity to choose a path for the story right from the beginning. The plot revolves around some students shaving superpowers, and their destiny to hide from the government, as they try to collect and examine them. The main character wanted to use his power of taking the mind of his target for a few seconds to be popular and get girls, but he was soon busted down by the organization of kids with superpowers, and they forced him to join them. After this, they visit mysterious cases of gifted kids, and they try to solve the issue by attracting the least amount of attention. The other way it could have turned out would be a reality where Yuu Otasaka kept using his powers, but slowly changed due to the influence of positive people around him. Whichever way you prefer, Charlotte is still a big hit from Jun Maeda, the creator of both Clannad and Angel Beats.
9. Kimi no Nawa

Mysterious strings that connect the world on a spiritual level? Maybe, but fate is a simpler word for that. Both anime revolves around people trying to break free from the destinies, and it goes harder for some than for others.
Your Name is considered as one of the biggest anime movies ever made, which is shown by its second-highest rating in the movies category, and the incredible amount of money this anime generated. The story follows two teenagers, who are somehow linked by fate and are capable of body-swapping with each other. As they try to meet up though, it turns out to be a collision of different timelines, and they have to face the reality of a worrying natural disaster. Fighting to save a town from the future, they are once again connected by the mysterious “red string”.
8. In The Corner of the World

First, it might seem like there aren’t many similarities between In This Corner of the World and To Your Eternity, but both of these anime operate under the same principle: exploring the hardships of many, and learning about the things that surround us.
Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni is a historical drama set during the late stage of the Second World War. This inherently spoils the development of the story, at least for those who know history. Japan was struck by fire-bombings and two nuclear bombs, which obviously affected the lives of everyone living there, the protagonist, Suzu has a hard time living with the family of her newlywed husband, but always tries her best despite being clumsy and somewhat dumb. Later she loses her family to the bombings and struggles to show her real emotions.
7. Made in Abyss

Discovering new things is the main principle of both To Your Eternity and Made in Abyss. The latter is set in a world where there is a giant abyss, yet not fully discovered, attracting many explorers to see what’s at the bottom.
The main characters, all of them being children, decided to go into the abyss, and find out about the mysteries of their world. The protagonist, Riko finds a weird boy on the first level of the abyss and takes him on her journey. They encounter many outstanding beings, and to their surprise, humans on the lower levels. As they come closer and closer to the bottom, the harder the journey turns out to be, but Riko is deeply motivated by finding her long-lost mother, who is said to have gone missing at the bottom of the abyss. Sadly this anime hasn’t been continued after the first season, and only got one movie that can be considered as a sequel. The fans are still hopeful though, as this masterpiece deserves more than just one season.

6. Spice and Wolf

Do you like unbelievable and totally baffling adventures? Then you should check out Spice and Wolf after watching To Your Eternity, as this anime has many surprises for a viewer who randomly decided to tune in!
Spice and Wolf is something that you won’t find similar things to, mainly because there is only one show with all this effort put in in its respective genre. Are you interested in films like The Moneyball, The Big Short or The Wolf of Wall Street? Are you having fun watching medieval microeconomics bloom? Then this might be your new favourite anime! There is just something in the journey of Holo, the wolf deity, and the way she and Lawrence travel around to make big bucks! The psychological line is interesting as well, but the main focus lands on inflation, market speculation, and many more aspects of business!
5. Monster

When it comes to psychological hardships, these two shows share many origins. Monster is something entirely different from your regular anime, and it is surely worth watching.
The story follows the promising doctor, Tenma, and his life of being a suspect in a chain of murders targeting middle-aged couples who raised foster kids. He wasn’t the real serial killer though, as he always tried to prove his innocence by finding the mastermind behind almost every crime organization in Germany, Johan Liebert. He was a boy saved by Tenma long ago, which was an action Tenma had to regret, as Johan turned out to be, you can guess, a real monster.
4. Spirited Away

Some might consider this Ghibli movie as one of the greatest anime films of all time, although it’s a hard take. Sharing many mysterious elements with To Your Eternity, Spirited Away takes its place on this list.
The movie starts out with Chihiro, a young girl visiting a ghost town with her parents by accident. As it turns out, it is literally a ghost town, as her parents were turned into pigs, and the witch lady of the tower didn’t really want to let go of them. Chihiro had to work hard to save her parents. She was helped by other mysterious spirits while learning a lot about her surroundings. Not even up to a debate why it is a classic anime!
3. Maquia

You’ve already been told by me about some cryfest anime before, but be ready for Maquia! This show shares its similarity of being insanely emotional with To Your Eternity, plus the idea of immortals, but has many other great qualities as well!
The plot is mainly focused on the immortal beings of Iorphs, and the titular character of Maquia. She had her home destroyed by the forces of the king and tried to live a peaceful life elsewhere. She found a lonely baby, who had his mother killed, and Maquia decided to raise him. They had to face a lot of difficulties, as she was from a discriminated race, but her son wasn’t. Their hardships get explored deeply, which fuses with the magnificent artwork! There was a lot of thought put into the smallest of details, and it looks amazing.
2. Steins; Gate

Supernatural is an interesting genre. Steins; Gate is a pioneer of science fiction in anime, although there were many before this show. Often confused with fantasy, the idea of time travel, and the exploration of different dimensions give a special taste to the piece of work.
Rintarou Okabe, or as he likes to be called, Hououin Kyouma, is a self-proclaimed mad scientist. For the majority of the show, he is only just a madman. As he and his crew accidentally discover time travel, he faces many difficulties ranging from getting hunted by organizations to losing the environment and friends he had been used to. He later decides to revert everything, to save the real timeline.
1. Violet Evergarden

We all love it when we find something that is truly outstanding. Be it any kind of piece of work, it brings joy like nothing else. Violet Evergarden excels at everything, especially about searching for the meaning of a word: love.
Violet Evergarden is a visually pleasing anime by Kyoto Animation. That is of course not the only great quality to bring up. The soundtrack really is wonderful, the story slaps, and the characters just bring joy most of the time. Let’s not forget what makes Violet Evergarden the show it is, which is the never-ending pain of losing someone who meant the world to you. Despite being an episodic show, every new setting, every new life situation we explore shows a different world to us. It teaches viewers to open their eyes, their ears, and their hearts.
Conclusion
There are plenty of anime out there about adventures and emotional development, and these were my takes on what to watch if you liked To Your Eternity. Make sure to check out our other lists if you are still looking for something fun!
