Who wants to watch the NBA when you can watch many teenage anime characters play basketball while betting tooth and nail. Our tale begins with Teikou Junior High School’s basketball team members. They were on a winning streak while playing tournaments in middle school, and the credit mainly went to a core group of players.
When the players graduate middle school and choose different high schools, they find themselves competing against each other on the opposite sides. Meanwhile, two players from Seirin High School, Kuroko Tetsuya and Taiga Kagami, must compete with Teikou High School to become the best Basketball team in Japan.

The artwork in this anime is simply epic; it’s detailed and looks good. You’ll thoroughly enjoy it even though, at times, it’s pretty unrealistic. There is a lot of sweat, but that’s to be expected considering what the character manages to accomplish on the court.

The story is simply unique. The plot doesn’t drag along but rather sails smoothly. The character development is quite noticeable. The Main Character is quite possibly the least selfish basketball player in the world. He has a unique style of playing, which makes him an important asset but traditionally isn’t considered “good.”
And of course, there are characters like Kagami who represent the real character development in the series. He starts off as a very selfish player but quickly grows on you.
Here is a summary of all the arcs of Kuroko No Basketball

1. BEST IN JAPAN ARC (Season 1)

Storyline:
This is one of the most important arcs in the anime. The relationship between Kagami and Kuroko is deeply explored in this arc. Their goals for the future, mainly their shared goal of besting the “Generation of Miracles”.
Meanwhile, we are introduced to Teppei Kiyoshi and Junpei Hyuga who must square off with our protagonists to become the best basketball team in Japan. While Kagami may have individual goals for himself, Kuroko has a history with the Generation of Miracles. They both must realize that Basketball is a team sport.
SUB-ARCS OF BEST IN JAPAN ARC:
1. Interhigh Tournament (Season 1)

Storyline:
Traditionally, Basketball has only 5 main players, at first glance, the Generation of Miracles is no different. But if you saw closely, the Generation of Miracles had a 6th player.
This particular player wasn’t the flashiest, he didn’t make the most noise. His specialty was passing the ball all over the court to his teammates while being unseen. It was this particular skill set that made him a dangerous player but unnoticeable to the general public.
This player’s name is Kuroko, who’s now a member of the Seirin High School Basketball Team. Along with Taiga Kagami, he plans to make his High School Basketball Team the best in Japan.
2. Winter Cup (Season 2)

Storyline:
Competing in the Interhigh Tournament was just one of the obstacles that our protagonists had to face to achieve their dream of becoming the best Basketball Team in Japan.
They must now train even harder to compete in the Winter Cup. Can they focus on their training when they are confronted by their past?
The Seirin team must face teams such as Yousen, Shuutoku, and Touou, which to say the least, will not be an easy task. But rival teams aren’t the only thing our protagonist must face.
Being very good at what you do isn’t always a good thing. A sport like Basketball requires one to be good at playing with a team first and foremost. Much like an engine, if one part starts going rogue the whole car can stop in its tracks. A very good Basketball Player will find it very difficult to rely on others as his own pride will demand that he do it all himself.
Can Kuroko and Kagami let go of their individual goals in order to work together as a team?
2. TEIKŌ ARC (3rd Season)

Storyline:
This Arc covers the majority of the third season of Kuroko’s Basketball anime. The TEIKŌ ARC takes us back to the origin of the “Generation of Miracles”. It tells us the story of how the characters met each other while they were all in Junior High School.
The arc mainly follows Kuroko who has just joined the basketball club at Teiko Junior High School. He finds that the club is overcrowded and the students are being separated into groups. Accordingly, Kuroko is placed in the third group which is eventually known as the “Generation of Miracles”.
The story then follows the team’s initial meeting, their interactions, and Kuroko eventually joining them. As the years go by, the team fractures from within. In spite of their success as a team, the players start to drift apart. Kuroko’s decision to quit the team is portrayed in detail here and we’re given a concrete understanding of how the best Basketball Team in Japan broke up. What exactly led them all to go their own separate ways?

Casual Basketball fans and people who’ve never watched Basketball (or any sport for that matter) will certainly enjoy this show. I must say, I’ve heard a lot of Hardcore Basketball fans complain about Kuroko’s Basketball. I think their main complaint is that the portrayal of the game itself, especially the physical feats that the players manage to accomplish is unrealistic. And to be honest, it is. But that’s what makes it more fun!
It’s not Anime NBA, do not expect to see a real-life portrayal of basketball. As someone who has watched a lot of NBA, I must say that you wouldn’t find it enjoyable in anime format at all. While realistic anime have made their mark in the community, I personally believe anime related to sports tend to be more fun when they’re at least a bit unrealistic.
So expect to see a fictionalized, flashy and cool version of real Basketball. All in all, it’s an enjoyable anime that isn’t exactly goofy but has the right amount of jokes and a right amount of seriousness.
