Danganronpa Plot

Danganronpa

Danganronpa tells us a story of Makoto Naegi who enrolls at a prestigious school named Hope’s Peak Academy, which is for talented students. He managed to get in there after winning a special lottery. He’s all excited but the moment he steps into the school, he falls unconscious. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a room full of security cameras and steel plates.

He follows the instruction and goes to the gym, finding 14 other students including an idol from his old middle school, Sayaka Maizono. They’re introduced to a remote controlled bear named Monokuma who is apparently the Principal of the school.

He reveals to the students that if they want to graduate and get out of the school, they’ll need to kill other students, otherwise, they can’t leave. The students reject this idea and start finding a way to get out of the school.

Monokuma is smart. He knows each student’s weakness and uses it in order to motivate them to take part in the competition. He gives each student a DVD of their weaknesses to motivate them and there’s fear everywhere.

Sayaka approaches Makoto and tells him about her concern that someone might be after her. Makoto understands her concern and switches rooms with her. The next morning, he finds Sayaka dead in his room. Makoto is extremely distressed by the situation.

Monokuma reveals to everyone that the students must find out about the killer in their “class trial”. The students start their research and Makoto is the prime suspect as Sayaka died in his room.

The trial begins. Kyoko tries to defend Makoto as he didn’t need to dismantle the doorknob of his own room to enter it. She provides evidence that Syaka invited someone over to kill them and pin the blame on Makoto only to get killed herself. As all arrows start pointing at Leon, he’s executed by Monokuma.

daganronpa episode 2

After the first trial, the second floor of the Academy is open to all the students. They are given access to a swimming pool and separate changing rooms for boys and girls. Monokuma threatens the students that he will reveal their secrets if another student is not killed in 24 hours.

The next morning, Chihiro Fujisaki is found dead in the girl’s locker room. The second trial begins and everyone starts accusing Toko of having Dissociative Identity Disorder. However, she refused to murder Chihiro. In the end, it is revealed that the killer is actually Mondo.

The students are given access to the third floor after completing the second trial. There is another murder and the murderer wears a robot costume. There is a third trial and it is revealed that Hifumi faked his death in order to put the blame of another murder on someone else. And I think it’s enough spoilers for today. You gotta watch this anime series in order to know what happens next. It’s full of thrills and must not be missed!
