Naomi Misora
Naomi Misora was the fiancé of Raye Penber, she didn’t have a lot of screen time, but her presence offered us the most exciting and suspenseful couple of episodes.
She is strong, but her biggest trait is her intelligence. She was searching for Kira in order to get revenge for the murder of Raye. Naomi was the first one to almost find incriminating evidence about the identity of Kira.
She would have exposed him if she didn’t have the bad luck to run into him before running into one of the actual detectives. Naomi was finally killed by Kira like her fiancé because she gave up her actual name after falling is one of Light’s ruses.
Light Yagami
Light Yagami is the Main Character of this anime. His secret identity is that of the murderer or savior in the eyes of many, Kira. His goal is to get rid of all the criminals on Earth by using the power of the Death Note, a notebook previously own by the Shinigami Ryuk. The Death Note has the power to kill anyone as long as you write the target’s name on it while having in mind his face. His IQ matches that of the genius detective and his sworn enemy L. It stands at 211.
Light has a God complex, he wishes to create a world where he stands at the top. For his ambitions, he will stop at nothing.
The sacrifices he will make during his crusade will be difficult and painful. He can be cruel and manipulative. He sees others only as pawns to be used but for the few, he cares about, their protection will always come first.

Watari
Watari is L’s secretary. He has been with L since the beginning of his career. He is the most loyal character of the series.
He is always calm and patient. He will only act on logic and never on impulsive emotions. He is very difficult to read since his expression never changes.
His work is always neat and organized.
Shuichi Aizawa
Shuichi Aizawa is one of the detectives who stayed on Kira’s case even after they discovered that Light had a special ability that could kill anyone anywhere. This fact shows bravery. He was one of the chosen who had the privilege to meet L personally. Before him and the detective squad, no one except Watari knew what L looked like.
He is an emotional type of person, a person who will act by following his instincts.

Sayu Yagami:
Sayu is Light’s little sister. She doesn’t have a main role in the anime but is seen many times. She is one of the few people Light cares about.
She is always smiling and cheerful as well as friendly and talkative, maybe a bit too much. Sayu gets along with everyone she meets and loves to pry into his older brother’s life. She looks up to him and relies on him a lot. She is a sensitive person that doesn’t have a hint of malice in her heart.

Soichiro Yagami
Soichiro is Light’s father as well as the Chief detective in charge of Kira’s case. He has been tracking his son down since the beginning without even knowing it. He is always serious, never jokes around. His bravery is off the charts since he didn’t even need to think a second to decide to stay on Kira’s case. Like the other members, he works directly with L.
He is a detective and has been for a long time, it is second nature for him to be suspicious at all times. Behind his strict and harsh face, you will find a gentle soul that cares a lot about his family as well as his subordinates. He possesses the heart of a hero, always ready to sacrifice himself for others.

Near
Near is one of L’s successors. After L’s death he took over Kira’s case and he was the one to finally put an end to Light’s rein.
Like L, he can be considered nothing else but a genius. His hobby is to solve complex puzzles and riddles, Kira’s case was only a game for him. He is an introvert that stays away from socializing. He looks like a calm and gentle person but he will use any method, even cruel methods that can be considered outside the law to resolve the case he was assigned to.

L Lawliet
L is the mysterious genius detective that is called by the police to solve the cases they are stuck on. He was the brain behind all the tactics used against Kira. The second he met Light for some reason he just sensed that he was the notorious killer and has been waiting for him to slip up ever since.
A battle between two geniuses begins.
L is a very bizarre person. He is childish, can’t seem to know how to sit like a normal person, and loves sweets. You may think he is nice but like every character in this series, appearances are deceiving. To stop Kira he didn’t hesitate to rob two teenagers of their basic human rights to get proof of their hidden identities.

Mello
Mello’s real name is Mihael Keehl, he is the second successor of L. Him and Near are complete opposites. Like L and Near, he has a genius intellect but he decided to enter the Mafia instead of siding with the law. Near is superior to him which ignited an inferiority complex. He categorically refuses to work together with him to create a sort of standoff to prove himself to be his equal.
He sided with criminals for one logical reason, he is not restricted by rules. His only error was to kidnap Sayu, Light’s little sister which got him killed in the end.
Touta Matsuda
Touta Matsuda is the youngest detective in the team assigned to Kira’s case. Because he is a bit of a coward, his decision to stay on the case show he has a strong sense of justice.
He is childish, naïve, and not the brightest person around. He is easy to read which makes him a trustworthy person since lying is almost an impossible feat for him.
Misa Amane
Misa Amane is a popular model, Light’s fake girlfriends that will become his wife at some point in the anime and the second Kira. Like Light, she possesses a Death Note and helps him in his quest to purge the world of evil.
She is deeply in love with him since he avenged her family by killing the criminal who murdered them. She follows his orders blindly and is ready to give her life for his sake. She made the Shinigami’s eyes pact twice now. She is a gullible and naïve person who still thinks that’s she can make Light fall for her.
Raye Penber
Raye Penber was the FBI agent appointed to follow Light in order to discover if he is Kira. He was Naomi’s fiancé and was killed by Kira who concocted a very complex scheme to discover his name as well as the names of all the other FBI agents dispatched.
