Mushoku Tensei Wiki
What does Mushoku Tensei have that’s unique to any other Isekai? Absolutely nothing! But that is what makes this show a banger. Even if the anime world is now bloated with cliche Isekai series. Mushoku Tensei starts off like any other Isekai, but suddenly it brings that inviting atmosphere with it. It makes you feel that you are going on a journey with the main character and you’re part of the world on the other side of your screen.
While Mushoku Tensei only released its anime adaptation in Winter 2021, the series is regarded as the grandfather of the Isekai genre in the anime industry. It was the inspiration for amazing shows such as Re: Zero-Starting Life in Another World and That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime.

Mushoku Tensei Plot

Mushoku Tensei’s plot in all of its adaptations focuses around Rudeus Greyrat. Rudeus’ backstory is not that of your typical mage in the world of Mushoku Tensei. Rudeus in his previous life was a 34-year-old shut-in or NEET from Japan who isolated himself from society because of traumatic experiences such as being bullied and publicly humiliated.
While he was walking the street, he noticed that a truck was about to hit a group of students, he immediately jumped in to save them telling himself that he should at least give his life meaning and purpose. In his dying moments, his world turns upside down as an extraordinary event is about to happen (Episode 1).
He then awakens as a baby with his memories still intact. He was given the name Rudeus by his parents, Zenith and Paul Greyrat. Zenith and Paul were both adventurers. Zenith was one of the few people that could cast healing spells and Paul was a renowned swordsman. As Rudeus grew up, he learned everything about the new world and became a prodigy when it came to magic, much like his mother. Roxy Migurdia became Rudeus’ master for a short while (Episode 1).
Continue Plot

He eventually reached her level of expertise in magic in a short amount of time and gained the ability to cast powerful spells. This led to Roxy leaving the Greyrat household and go on a journey to study magic further (Episode 2). Rudeus would also meet Sylphiette where he would teach her everything he knew about magic, especially when it came to the chant-less incantation of spells (Episode 3).
Rudeus eventually became the tutor of Eris Boreas Greyrat as well as learn swordsmanship from Ghislaine Dedoldia, while he was trying to save money to enroll in Magic University (Episode 5, Episode 6). That doesn’t mean that Rudeus is perfect. Rudeus engages in the acts in his daily life and goes to extreme lengths just to finish his morning routine, which involves worshiping Roxy’s underwear (Chapter 60).
While his current life seems to be better than his previous one, he is still haunted by the painful events of his past. There are moments where Rudeus is afraid to leave his home and parents.
However, with the help of his friends, master, and parents, Rudeus slowly realizes that he now has people that love him. Step by step, he overcomes his fears and gains the courage to face his new life with his head held high (Episode 3).
A disaster suddenly strikes called the Fitoan Incident, where the entire region of Fitoa especially its inhabitants were transported to different parts of the world (Episode 8, Chapter 34).
Rudeus and Eris were transported to the dangerous Demon Continent where they met Ruijered Superdia, who protected them from dangerous monsters and guided them through the wastelands (Episode 9).
Rudeus now faces the difficult task of going back home and find his family. While on his way back, Rudeus strives to protect everything he holds dear and give meaning to this new life that was bestowed upon him.
ANIME

The anime adaptation of the series was given the title, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation or Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Intarra Honki Dasu and premiered in the Winter season of anime in 2021 which began on January 11th and finished on March 22nd. The series was produced by Frontier Works, TOHO Animation, Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures, BS11, Egg Firm, Kadokawa, GREE, and Toho Music.

The series was created by Studio Bind which is a fairly new studio formed in November 2018, and Mushoku Tensei is their first work as the lead animation studio. Undoubtedly, Studio Bind did an amazing job in animating and producing Mushoku Tensei. An English dub of the anime adaptation was announced by Funimation and started premiering on February 14th, 2021.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation 2nd cour will also be handled by Studio Bind and is set to premiere in Fall 2021, more specifically in October. It was set to release in July 2021 of the Summer season of anime but was delayed to October 2021 due to the current world situation. The 2nd cour will pick up where the first season left off and will have a total of 12 episodes.
Production
If you’ve watched the anime adaptation, you’ll know that there is no official opening and ending video but there were astounding songs. The opening soundtrack was entitled “The Traveler’s Song” and the ending soundtrack was called “Only” and both were sung by Yuiko Ohara.

Muhsoku Tensei Parts

The manga adaptation of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation or Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Desu started serialization on May 2nd, 2014 on the May 2014 issue of Monthly Comic Flapper. It is still currently publishing and is on its 15th Volume and 69th Chapter.
The manga is being published by Media Factory which is Kadokawa Future Publishing’s Japanese publisher and brand company. Media Factory published Japanese manga and anime series like Overlord, No Game No Life, and Mai, The Psychic Girl. Seven Seas Entertainment became its official English publisher and is known for publishing manga series such as I Want To Eat Your Pancreas and GIGANT.
There are a couple of manga spin-offs. Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Gets Serious or Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Datte Honki features the life of Roxy Migurdia, Rudeus’ master, and her path to becoming one of the series’ strongest mages. The spin-off is written by the same writer of the original manga adaptation but has a different illustrator.
It was illustrated by Shoko Iwami and published by Kadokawa Shoten. Kadokawa Shoten published Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, and Highschool of the Dead which has anime adaptations. Seven Seas Entertainment is also the official English publisher. Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Gets Serious began serialization on an issue of Comic Walker on December 21st, 2017. The spin-off is still ongoing and has a total of 6 volumes.
Mushoku Tensei: Even If Its A 4-Koma, I’ll Get Serious or Mushoku Tensei: Yon-koma ni Natti mo Honki Desu is another manga spin-off series that was still written by the same writer of the original manga adaptation that recreates Volume 1 to 6 of the Light Novel in a more humorous manner. The spin-off was illustrated by Nogiwa Kaede and published by ASCII Media Works who are popular for publishing Clannad and Golden Time. It was first serialized in Comic Dengeki Daioh “G” Magazine. The series had its run from October 25th, 2018 to August 27th, 2020, and finished 3 volumes.
Meanwhile, there are 3 anthologies of the 3 main heroines of the Mushoku Tensei series which are Roxy Migurdia, Eris Boreas Greyrat, and Sylphiette. Each anthology contains a short story of one of the heroines. The first short story was published on March 22nd, 2019, and the third and final short story was released on December 26th, 2020. The short stories covered events from the 1st volume to the 8th volume of the Light Novel.

The light novel is the source material of both the manga and anime adaptations. The Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation or translated from the light novel Jobless Reincarnation: I Will Seriously Try If I Go To Another World is also just an adaptation from the original web novel which can be found on Shousetsuka Ni Narou or Syosetu for short, which is a website that features published web novels.
As of this day, the light novel adaptation has a total of 24 volumes and an upcoming 25th volume. The adaptation also received awards such as achieving 4th place in 2017, 7th place in 2018, 9th place in 2019, and 4th place again in 2020 in the Takarajimasha’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! or This Light Novel is Amazing!
The light novel adaptation was published by Media Factory which was announced by Rifujin himself in November 2013 and also turned out to be the first anniversary of the series.
A year later, Media Factory published the light novel adaptation under MF Books imprint. Volume 1 was published on January 23rd, 2014. On July 18th, 2018, Seven Seas Entertainment became the official English publisher and started publishing on May 21st, 2019 under the Airship imprint.
Seven Seas Entertainment also made changes for the light novel, especially when it came to 18+ actions, but sadly would not avoid immense criticism from the readers. Seven Seas Entertainment was also responsible for its current name, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation which was considered as their official translation and the official English title of the light novel.

The web novel was serialized on the website Shousetsuka ni Narou which is an online platform for publishing web novels. It started on November 22nd, 2012, and finished on April 3rd, 2015. Rifujin finished 24 volumes and 264 chapters including the epilogue, similar to that of the light novel adaptation.
The web novel can be considered as the origin of the various adaptations of the series. Mushoku Tensei received a handful of criticisms because it had topics that involved inappropriate acts especially when it came to Rudeus. However, the web novel also became the most popular novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou several times.
In addition, Mushoku Tensei: I’ll Seriously Try If I Go To Another World or in the web novel, known as Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Desu (Japanese: 無職転生 ~異世界行ったら本気だす~) is only one of the first stories involved in the universe created by Rifujin na Magonote called the Tales of the Six-Faced World which can also be found in Shousetsuka ni Narou. It is known that Mushoku Tensei will become the basis of the other four novels to be present in Rifujin’s universe.
Several stories were made by Rifujin based on the world of Mushoku Tensei. Subjugation of the Great Dragon King: Preface to the Final Chapter was a prototype for Mushoku Tensei, talks about the Great Dragon King 300 years before the story of Mushoku Tensei began, and consists of only 11 chapters.
Mushoku Tensei: Redundancy meanwhile happens in the middle of Chapter 259 and the Epilogue of the web novel, and tries to give insights into the lives of characters that were not given much attention in the main story sequence. Jobless Oblige is a story about another member of the Greyrat family that Rudeus and Sylphiette made, known as Sieghart Saladin Greyrat. Lastly, Old Dragon’s Tale is the backstory of the Demon-Dragon King Laplace which had a total of 23 chapters and finished publishing on March 6th, 2017.

A game based on Mushoku Tensei has been released earlier this 2021. It was entitled Mushoku Tensei: I’ll Seriously Try Even If It’s Made Into a Game or Mushoku Tensei: Game ni Nattemo Honki Desu.
The game was developed by Aiming Co., Ltd. and published by Beaglee Co., Ltd. It features Role-Playing Game (RPG) mechanics and is available on Android devices via the Google Playstore and on IOS devices through the App Store.
The game has a similar UI to that of a visual novel where it takes scenes from the anime as well as parts of the manga and light novel when it comes to storytelling. It covers until Volume 3 of the light novel and also has events that aren’t available in the light novel, anime, manga, and even web novel.
Playable characters include Rudeus and the rest of the main characters as well as side characters such as Paul and Zenith Greyrat, Ghislaine, and Talhand. There are different classes with their advantages and disadvantages. You can obtain characters through the Gacha using the game’s form of currency.
Final Verdict
While the anime is still young and has yet to reveal the various climatic and shocking moments that appeared in the manga and light novel, there is no doubt that Mushoku Tensei will become one of the greats. If you’ve read the light novel, you’ll know for sure that when paired with the amazing animation and soundtrack the anime is known for, Rudeus Greyrat’s journey in this new world is magic in itself.
In this world of magic and adventure, there are no limits to what monsters and interesting characters you will meet as you strive forward along with Rudeus to live life to the fullest.
There is still a vast universe connected to Mushoku Tensei and without a doubt, the story is far from over.
