A lot of us have been waiting for years to have the chance to fight, cry and rejoice with our favorite characters once again. But of course, the spotlight isn’t only focused on them, the newest anime have also the chance to try and impress us. This year sure looks like a promising one, filled with nostalgia and excitement. This is why we are proposing you a list of the most anticipated and interesting movies of 2021 – 2022 and their release dates. Enjoy!

The story tells us about Catarina Claes who’s the only daughter of a noble family. One day, she hits her head  And switches life with an otaku. The girl then realizes she’s been reborn into the world of Otome Game as a Villainess where she’s either to be doomed or exiled. Let’s see how her life is in this world!

Release Date: 2023

Nimona is a shape-shifter who helps a knight prove his innocence. A knight gets blamed for something he didn’t do. How sad is that? Well, he comes across a shape-shifter who helps him prove his innocence. Nimona might be a monster the knight is supposed to kill.

15. Yuru Camp △ Movie

Release date: 2022

To end on a cheerful note, MAPPA is presenting to us the Yuru Camp △ Movie. The fans are very reluctant to know what the movie can possibly be about since a single camp trip isn’t enough to create an interesting plot. Nobody is getting his hopes up just yet but MAPPA may have a plan to surprise us. We will just have to sit tight and wait since we have very limited information on the subject.

 

 14. Dragon Ball Super – Super Hero 

Release: June 11, 2022 

Dragon Ball Z is undoubtedly one of the best anime of all time. It has made our childhood so amazing just by being played on the T.V. I am sure every kid has watched or at least heard about this masterpiece. The clumsy yet overpowered MC, Goku, starts as a defender of the earth. He keeps training himself to become the very best and protect the world from different villains who keep on wanting to destroy it.  Let’s talk a bit about Dragon Ball Super. What is this movie about? If you have watched DBZ anime you can easily watch this movie without any worries. In which Dragon Ball Z timeline does the story take place? Let’s find out! The events in this movie take place right after the movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly.  The story tells us about the Red Ribbon Army that was once destroyed by Son Goku. People who carry on their spirits have successfully created ultimate androids known as Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. Out for revenge, they start attacking Piccolo and Gohan. 

 

 13. Overlord 

Release: 2022

Along with the new season of Overlord, a new movie is also coming out. Are you guys ready to witness some kickass action? The fourth season of Overlord is releasing on the 4th of July 2022 and the movie will come out soon after its release. Let’s go, my otakus!  This anime has the gaming concept and you’re going to love it if you have caught up with the previous seasons of Overlord. 

 

12. Laid-Back Camp Movie

Release: July 1, 2022 

Laid-Back Camp is about a high schooler named Nadeshiko who moved from Shizuoka to Yamanashi. She wanted to see 1000 yen-bill-featured Mount Fuji. And even though she went all the way there to Motosu, she had to turn her bike back because of bad weather.  Adventurous movies are always super cool! Your mind will get refreshed after watching this anime. Anyways, let’s talk about what happens in the movie! This movie revolves around Rin Shima who loves camping and often does it on her own. She moves to a whole new place where she meets a girl named Nadeshiko Kagamihara with similar interests. That’s where their friendship begins.  Finding a new friend in a new place with similar interests? Sounds like a dream to me! If you want to watch a refreshing movie, Laid-Back Camp Movie is the perfect pick for you! 

 

11. One Piece Film: Red

Release: August 6, 2022 

All hail this anime for making our lives happier just by being on the screen. One Piece is one of the most popular and probably the longest anime of all time. It’s super old but it never ceases to amaze us. One Piece revolves around Monkey D. Luffy who’s a young man with a single dream and that is nothing more than to find the legendary treasure. He wants to become the King of the Pirates. 

The adventurous anime makes us feel like we’re with them. Isn’t that right? Even though One Piece has been in the anime industry for a long time, it still comes up with amazing plots and mysteries. Let’s talk about what happens in One Piece: Film Red. The story of this movie is mainly about “The Island of Music” where Uta who’s known to be the best diva in the whole world holds her concert and reveals a bit about herself. Who is Uta?  10. Sword Art Online The Movie – Progressive – Scherzo of Deep Night

Release: Fall 2022

The story of this anime is set in a gaming world where two players are given a goal to clear all 100 floors of the game and ultimately defeat the boss. Sounds interesting already, right? Well, if you haven’t watched SAO, you need to! For some, the concept of anime is like a dream come true. For others, it’s like a nightmare come true. 

Sword Art Online is also quite old now but it’s still coming up with refreshing movies. For instance, SAO The Movie – Progressive – Scherzo of Deep Night. It tells us about humans’ realization of the real world and illusionary space. Yes! We’re talking about SAO! This movie features Asuna, Argo, and Kirito’s adventures from the fourth volume of the SAOP Novel. So, if you want to continue the adventure, watch SAO – Schezero of Deep Night! 

 

9. Suzume No Tojimari 

Release: November 11, 2022 

Anime movies always seem to give us some sort of lesson at the very end, Suzume No Tojimari is one of those movies. It’s a scientific-fantastical story that tells us about Suzume’s journey through Japan. She needs to close the “Doors of Disaster”. 
What could be behind these doors? The story is an adventurous battle in the modern world. This movie, unlike other movies, will fight for a girl’s freedom too. Usually, the girls in anime movies seem to have all the freedom or liberty in the world. Isn’t that right? I’m so excited about this movie! LET’S GO! 

 

8. The Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime: Scarlet Bonds

Release: November 2022

The Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is a fun anime to watch. You need to watch this anime if you haven’t. It revolves around Mikami Satoru, a regular office worker who gets stabbed and thus gets isekai’d into another world. In that world, he’s nothing more than a slime that can easily be killed by anybody. He’s not an average slime though, he’s quite overpowered in this world. 

If you have watched this anime and want to know what this upcoming movie of Reincarnated As A Slime is about, you’re at the right place! It tells us about Rimuru Tempest aka the slime who turns into a demon lord to save his companions. He, along with his friends, establish the Jura Tempest Federation which is a land of monsters. 

Raja is a small country where a conspiracy is swirling around the queen’s power. Then Hiro shows up in front of Rimuru and his friends. What does Hiro want?

 

7. Bubble 

Release: April 28, 2022

Bubble is an anime movie that is based in a boy and a girl that are drawn to one another. This story sets up in Tokyo where the laws of gravity  in the world is no more. The families in Tokyo have lost their loved ones now, this city became a playground for all those people. 

 

6. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten 

Release: 2022

This anime is all about magical girls who go on various adventures accompanied by a magical creature named Kyuubey. This movie is a sequel to the 2013 film. We all remember the Walpurgis Night though, right? It was so creepy! So, let’s see what happens in this movie and how Walpurgis tries to step on them. Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten will be released in 2022. We’re not sure of the exact date yet. So, just sit tight and wait patiently for your favorite anime movie to come out. Are you guys ready to rock and roll? 

 

5. Zombieland Saga Movie

Release Date: Fall 2022

ZOMBIES DANCING? That’s like the funniest thing ever, no? If you don’t think so you definitely should watch Zombieland Saga where a girl gets into an accident and becomes a zombie. However, she always dreamt of becoming an idol and got inspired by them too. There have been only two seasons of this anime but a movie is coming out! Let’s wait a bit for what’s going to happen in this movie since it is supposed to be revealed soon. 

 

 

4. Digimon 02 Movie

Digimon is also one of the oldest anime of all time. The studio that animated DBZ animated Digimon too. This anime has also made our childhood very interesting. It tells us about the Digimon Adventure in the digital world that is invaded by the Digimon Emperor who’s also controlling Spires that negate the Digivolution. This anime movie is also going to be quite adventurous so if you love adventures, you can watch this movie too! 

 

3. Drifting Home

Release date: September 16, 2022

This is the story of Kosuke and Natsume. They are childhood friends but as time passes by both of them start to change. They start avoiding each other when they reach the sixth grade. On one summer day, they visit a housing complex. Yes! It’s vacation time. When they go to that house they get reminded of the wholesome time they have spent together. Sounds really cute, right? But that’s not the end. Suddenly, both of them get caught up in a mysterious phenomenon into the sea along with other members in it. Will they be stuck inside this world? 

 

2. How Do You Live? 

Release date: 2022 

This is the story of a 15-yearold boy whose nickname is Koperu and how he grows despite poverty. How Do You Live sounds like a really sad movie and I’m looking forward to watching it! Koperu lives with his uncle and observes the experience of human growth and spiritual growth. 

 

 

1. Jujutsu kaisen 0: Jujutsu High

Release date: Between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022

Jujutsu Kaisen blew the minds of the watchers when it was first released. Studio MAPPA gave honor to the manga by reproducing it as an anime following perfectly the designs and the scenes depicted in the original manga. Now MAPPA officially announced the production of a movie based on Volume 0 of the manga. If this movie is anything like the anime version, it is sure to become a masterpiece.

15. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time

Release date: March 8, 2021

14 years later, Studio Khara is finally releasing the final Evangelion movie after an interminable wait. Fans are expecting a lot from this movie, and we all hope that their expectations will be met.  Taking into consideration that the writer is presenting us with an alternate version of the story, something completely different from the original anime. The question that we now all ask ourselves is, will the risk the producers took ultimately pay off?

 

14. Boku No Hero Academia Movie 3 (World Heroes’ Mission)

Release date: August 6, 2021

Boku No Hero Academia started off strong and is not slowing down. Their third movie is in the making. There’s a piece of news that took us by surprise and that instantly put smiles on all the fan’s faces since the author previously announced that the second movie would be the last. The first trailer is already available on Youtube and will literally give you goosebumps as you watch it.

 

13. Fate/Grand Order The Movie

Release date: May 8, 2021

Since the Fate series is getting so much success, as expected another movie will be soon released.Not one single movie disappointed the fans till now and this one is expected to be even better. It is an adaptation of the 6th Singularity Camelot. In short Ritsuka Fujimnaru and Mash Kyrielight are traveling to Camelot and meet the legendary Heroes residing in that mysterious city.

 

12. Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night

Release date: Fall 2021

This movie will be kind of a recap of the first season of the anime. It will be following the detailed adventure of the MCs as they try to clear each floor. As the anime is narrated from the point of view of Kirito, this movie will give priority to Asuna and the struggles she faced while she was in the game.

 

11. The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light

Release Date: July 2, 2021

“The Seven Deadly sins: Cursed by Light” is a sequel movie to the first film “The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky” Not much information has been revealed, we just know that the movie will follow the manga very closely. A teaser trailer is now available for fans to watch and new posters that are just gorgeous. With the anime coming to an end, it is nice to know that we get some extra time with The Seven Deadly Sins.

 

10. Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma☆Illya

Release date: Summer 2021

This movie takes place in a Fate/stay night alternate universe. Illyasviel, an ordinary girl is granted magic power after the magical Kaleidostick Ruby acknowledges her as her new master. She is now tasked with the collection of the seven Class Cards containing the Heroic Spirits. Accompanied by the former master of the Kaleidostick, Rin, they encounter during their journey the master and former master of the Kaleidostick Sapphire who turns out to be their respective rivals. Will the enmity between the girls be an obstacle or an extra incentive to achieve their mission? We’ll have to find that out!

 

9. Sailor Moon Eternal 1 & 2

Release Date: First part: January 8, 2021

Second Part: February 11, 2021

These movies will be based on the Dream arc of the Sailor Moon manga and will act as the continuation of the anime’s fourth season. 31 years after the anime debut, Sailor Moon is one of the most anticipated movies of the year offering us unique designs and unexpected plot. We can be sure that this will not be the end as the anime is expected to prosper for many years to go.

 

 

8. Ryoma! Rebirth Movie The Prince of Tennis

Release date: September 3, 2021

The prince is back! Everyone, I’m sure, you were waiting for this since the last movie of the series was kind of a disappointment. The anime left us on a cliffhanger and all the fans were hoping for a sequel. But this movie is not what we expected it to be. The author added a Sci-Fi element: Time travel! The time travel will bring back Ryoma to a time where his father was still actively playing tennis and was trying to achieve his dream of becoming the number 1 professional tennis player. All the action will be set in America, not Japan.  Can’t wait for the movie to be released and really hope that it will answer some of the questions the anime left us wondering about.

 

7. Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash

Release date: May 7, 2021

Gundam just celebrated its 40th anniversary. To celebrate with all the fans of the iconic series they are producing a Trilogy. Yes, you read right, this movie will be the first out of three. The project should’ve been released in 2020 but was delayed to the COVID-19 crisis. But production is looking to make up for the lost time in 2021. The upcoming movie is said to be very different from the other, in a good way. It will follow the spiritual successor Amuro and Char of the original series but a new protagonist will make his entrance, we have yet to determine if he will be on to the good side or the evil one.

 

6. Detective Conan Movie 24: The Scarlet Bullet

Release Date: April 16, 2021

Our not so young detective is back with his 24th movie. The author isn’t going to stop surprising us with his elaborate skims and prodigious deduction skills any time soon. The “Japanese Bullet,” the world’s first vacuum-tube superconducting linear train is having its opening ceremony. An event much anticipated all over Japan. But the event will not go as the hosts had hoped since the top executives are being kidnaped one after another. It falls on Conan to find the culprit in the limited time that he has on his hands.

 

5. Shika No Ou

Release date: September 10, 2021

A large Kingdom made way to conquer a small land under the protection of Van, the head of the troops. Greatly outnumbered, they were all ready to sacrifice their lives to defend their home. And as expected they were defeated, but instead of killing Van, the empire took him as a slave and threw him in a salt mine. A decision that they will soon deeply regret. The movie is based on a bestselling light novel that will move your heart as you follow unique characters trying to escape their fate and fight against the odds.

 

4. Pompo: The Cinephile

Release Date: June 4, 2021

Joelle Pomponette, aka Pompo-san, is an underrated movie director that is struggling to make a mark and distinguish himself in the movie industry. But Gene Fini, his assistant who feels nothing but respect toward the talented director, finds a script written by Pompo-san that goes directly to his heart. Pompo-san, moved by his passion and his desire to bring his script to life, gives him the task of directing his first movie. This is a refreshing movie produced by studio Clapp that will appeal to all the “Movie Buffs”

 

3. Aria The Crepuscolo

Release date: Spring 2021

Even though Aria is not a very popular anime, it already has under its belt OVAs and Movies. It’s a slice-of-life anime that talks about the life of a group of girls living on the planet Mars. The upcoming movie will follow the story of Anya and the relationship troubles the group is currently facing. The visuals are very pleasing and everything about this anime is somewhat smoothing you.

 

2. Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop

Release date: June 2021

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is the only Romantic movie of this list, and is very reflective of the struggles teenagers face in society. It will cover the story of a young boy with a communication disorder and a popular girl who tries to hide the shame of wearing braces with a mask. This movie is unique in terms of visuals and music choice.

 

1. Misaki No Mayoiga

Release date: 2021  

This movie is another novel adaptation and was made in honor of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan 10 years ago. It will be produced by Davis studio, the same studio that made JoJo no Kimyou na Boukenand  Enen no Shouboutai. You already guessed it, this will be a Drama on the journey of a teenage girl trying to adapt to a new life, surrounded by new people after losing her parents due to an earthquake. This movie is sure to make you cry your eyes out.

4. Kaguya Sama: Love is War: The First Kiss Never Ends

Kaguya Sama came back with its banger season 3 and its hype is still the same. The cute characters will win your hearts when you start watching this anime. Anyways, the good news is that it’ll be back with another movie called The First Kiss Never Ends which revolves around Kaguya and his relationship with Miyuki. *BLUSHING* The title explains it all! I’m sure you’re excited to see this movie because I surely am! 

 

3. YURI!!! on ICE the movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE

Release date: TBA

The production of the movie is still ongoing and at this early stage, the producer is still not able to determine a specific release date. Only a teaser trailer is available till now and can confirm one thing, amazing visuals are waiting for us. MAPPA is pouring his heart and soul into the creation of this sequel movie. The official trailer premiere is expected to be released in the upcoming month. Hang tight, the wait is almost over and will certainly be worth it.

 

2. Elga Slam Dunk Movie

Release date: TBA

It’s already been 25 years since the anime and manga of the series has ended but it’s coming back in force with a movie produced by Toei studio. Slam Dunk is now one of the most famous sports anime and everyone is hyped about the news. No one expected the release of a movie after so many years, it came in as a real surprise. But we are still not sure if the movie will be a sequel or a reboot of the anime series. We will be back with further information as soon as the author makes a new announcement.

 

1. Black Clover Movie

Release date: TBA 

Black Clover has been a hit in the anime world and is now getting its first movie! Every single one of us was dreading the day the series would end and knowing that it’s not totally over yet gave us something to look forward to. Unfortunately, the details of the movie are still draped in mystery. Only a short video is available on Youtube giving us an idea about the design and art but nothing concerning the plot. The release date is also unknown. The producers I’m sure are having a blast bottling up the excitement of the fans waiting to see their reaction when the suspense will end.

In terms of movies, 2021 and 2022 are absolutely not disappointing us. The comeback of legendary animes paired with sequels of adventures on our newest heroes really gives us something to look forward to during the difficult years we are passing through.
