Who is the coolest, most adorable sensei in the anime world? Gojo? Nah, too sassy. Korosensei? He is a know-it-all, pretty annoying if you ask me. Rayleigh? Nothing cute about him. Jiraiya? We love him, no questions asked, but he’s a bit too perverted for my taste. The Sensei I’m referring to is kind of underrated in that field since he was many things in the Naruto series.

Once a member of the Anbu corps, he was labeled a comrade killer due to a terrible accident. The third Hokage then appointed him as an instructor in the Ninja Academy and he took charge of the famous Team 7. He finally ended up being a Hokage himself.
I think you guessed who I’m talking about by now, I am referring to the awesome “Copy Ninja”, Hatake Kakashi. When you think about him, what are the first words that come to mind? “Icha Icha” right? Just kidding, it would be Kakkoii, kind, OP, clever, sneaky, funny, and things like that. He was part of our childhood, we grew up following the life lessons that he would teach his students. He may have been a fictional character, however, I bet he had a major impact on the lives of many, many Naruto fans.
At some point we all wanted to be just like him and I can totally understand why? I mean, who wouldn’t want to be as perfect as Kakashi? Our love for him started building up ever since his first appearance and it has only been growing since then. He left like family, we cared for him, worried for him, defended him, as if it would matter, but we did it anyway.
Just imagine what would happen to us if one day, the author suffers a total breakdown and decides to ditch him! Oh, wait, I think that has already happened! Did Kakashi actually die in Naruto or Boruto?

IS KAKASHI GONE FOR GOOD?
Pain’s Assault Arc
Back in the original Naruto Shippuden series, Naruto is currently away, training with the frogs in order to master sage mode. The Akatsuki, unaware of that fact, invaded the village to put their hands on the Jinchuriki. I’m talking in the plural, however, all they had to do was send one man to wreak havoc in Konoha, and that man was Pain. He appeared in the middle of the village from out of nowhere. No one saw him coming, and if they had, there was nothing they could’ve done.
Armed with his Rinnegan and the mysterious jutsu that he wields, he was so powerful that even Tsunade looked like a rookie when she tried fighting him. Pain possesses seven bodies, six puppets that master different jutsus, and his original body hidden away somewhere in the forest. You would think that those puppets had to be easy to defeat considering he is dividing his chakra between them, but think again, an entire ninja platoon wasn’t enough to stop one of them. And do you really believe that Jiraya would have succumbed to them if they weren’t OP?
Tired of searching for his target, Pain decided to opt for an extreme method, activating his most powerful technique, he wiped out Konoha from the map. Many died, don’t worry, Kakashi wasn’t one of them. However, those who survived were still in danger since they possessed the information the Akatsuki was searching for. Just where in the world is Naruto?
Torturing each villager that crossed his path, Pain finally encountered Kakashi. And we all know that Kakashi is no pushover, he’ll get Naruto over his dead body. Well, if that’s what he wanted, so be it. An intense fight against the Deva path began, and Kakashi actually had the upper hand. When his opponent realized he was in a bin, he decided to call for reinforcements. That’s cheating, I know, but there are no rules on a battlefield. Now it was Kakashi who was in trouble, but luckily, Choji and Choza showed up just in time to assist him.
Too busy dealing with the enemy’s aid, Choji and Choza were quickly defeated, and the Deva path trapped Kakashi under a pile of rubble. Without wasting any second, he aims a poisoned nail at his neck. With that, he stops using his Sharingan, but the enemy doesn’t know that. Now playing dead, he is waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike back.
Incognito, he tasks Choji with delivering a message to their allies. As the boy was trying to sneak out, Pain notices him and fires a missile right at him. With no other choice, Kakashi uses the last of his chakra to warp the missile away and dies in the process. At that point, we would be at episode 159 of the Naruto series. That doesn’t make sense, right? Kakashi is alive and kicking till the very end of the Naruto series, he is even seen in Boruto. Well, that’s because the story doesn’t end here.
How did Kakashi come back to life in Naruto?
Naruto, after pulling off a legendary entrance, is now back in Konoha and he is kind of pissed, you know. The entire pillage is just a pile of rubble now, so many souls were lost, and he can’t even sense Kakashi’s chakra anymore. In a fit of rage, he goes head-to-head with the six paths of Pain. After a memorable battle, the one victorious was, of course, our wanna be Hokage, Naruto.
He still has one thing to do, cut the head of the snake, and off he goes searching for Pain’s main body. However, when he finally finds him, he has no intention of fighting, sharing his morals, his beliefs, his dreams, and his commitment with his powerless foe, he manages to convince him to change sides. In fact, he did more than that, he lit a fire in the dead heart of a broken ninja, and revived his will to fight for justice.
In an attempt to right his wrongs, he passed on his hopes and dreams to our young MC and activated the ultimate revival jutsu (Gedo Rinne Tensei no Jutsu) bringing back to life every single person that died during his attack, Kakashi included of course. Now completely depleted from chakra, he drew his last breath leaving Konan and Naruto behind to finish what he started.
Did Kakashi change after his death?
You can say that he changed, however, he changed for the better. When he was waiting in Limbo, Kakashi had the chance to meet his father. His father, his hero, has been waiting here for him to arrive in order to reveal the truth behind his suicide. Deeply scared by his father’s action, Kakashi had to pass through extremely difficult times and even after accepting what happened and regaining his livelihood, there was still a dark burden on his shoulder, a burden that had been lifted and his father gave him closure.

Does Kakashi permanently die in Naruto?
Many dangerous things happened after Pain’s attack; he was just the tip of the iceberg. There was no guarantee that Kakashi would survive if he was ever pitted against enemies even stronger than Pain was.
Luckily, not only did he gain in terms of strength, but he also gained in experience and confidence, plus many powerful allies joined forces with them in the arcs that followed and he miraculously managed to survive all the hardships that came.
The biggest proof of what I’m saying is obviously the fact that the ninja is seen in Boruto, the sequel of the Naruto series, which brings us to our next question, will he lose his life in Boruto?
Will Kakashi die in Boruto?
One thing I can tell you with confidence is that he isn’t dead…yet. When Boruto was released, for a good bunch of episodes, Kakashi was nowhere to be seen for some reason which got the fans thinking, maybe he won’t be part of the new adventures. Fortunately, that was not the case since he makes an incredible comeback in episode 23, which is a piece of information the fans would’ve got if they paid attention to all the hints the author dropped for them.
However, there is one small problem here. See, Boruto is still ongoing. Enemies with incredible power, unimaginable power are coming after the lives of our heroes one after another. Even Naruto and Sasuke are in over their heads. And let’s not forget that Kakashi is getting old after all. As much as I would like to confirm to you that we will see a lot more of our favorite Copy ninja, the truth is I can’t guarantee anything, I’m not the author after all.
I’ll come back to you with a nice update when Boruto ends, if it ever ends, feels like One Piece contaminated them and they are creating the next never-ending anime. Not that we are sad about that of course. We can’t get enough of them!
Conclusion
This is it, my little anime fanatics, the end of the rope. I loved our nostalgic trip back in time, a trip that didn’t end on a bad note for once. One thing I should have done is given you a power update since I wanna know what you think will happen to Kakashi next. Do you think he will survive Boruto, do you think he’ll get some cool well deserved power up in order to stay in the game? Maybe he’ll settle, get married and have kids, although I absolutely can’t picture that in my head, or I’ll be jealous of the woman who will claim him as her own, even though I would love to see a mini Kakashi up and running. I’m sure he will turn out a handsome genius just like his father. In fact, I think he should be a series for himself, yup I’m sure, he should, that would be just lit.

Okay, I get it, enough with the delusions, I don’t wanna freak you out or anything, I’ll shut my mouth now.
