There are a total of 26 episodes in Trigun. Of the 26 episodes, a whopping 17 of them are filler episodes. This is more than half of the entire list making up roughly 65% of all the episodes. While they are still entertaining to watch, it is not really canon in the manga. Only 4 episodes are completely manga canon. Oddly enough, the manga canon episodes are only 15% of the entire list. The remaining 5 episodes are a mix between manga canon content and filler content.
Plot
Vash is seen by everyone as a dangerous threat. He has a banging 60 billion bounty on him. That much money would definitely attract a lot of bounty hunters. Everyone is gunning for that reward money.
Now, what could possibly be a crime worth a 60 billion double dollar bounty? Well, Vash was held accountable for many explosive escapades. He is most famous for absolutely obliterating the city of July.
Even though it was a crazy experience for everyone, Vash oddly does not even recall what he did to the city. He only remembers what the city looked like after he did quite the number on it. (Talk about a weird case of deja vu)
What is weird is that despite his destructive deeds, he was never caught killing a person. Imagine demolishing an entire town and not adding the cherry on top by killing people in it. It was a weird thing.
This, without a doubt, seems like a fearsome fellow. No one would want to mess with someone who had the power to clear the area without breaking a sweat.
After some time, Vash caught the eyes of the Bernardelli Insurance Society. The company sent out two of their best insurance representatives, Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, to catch the notorious gunslinger.
The goal was to prevent him from causing any more mischief. No one wants a walking bomb going around the town, especially when you have a business to think about.
The two women go to a town in search of our main protagonist, Vash. They come to find him at the Cesar Mansion where Vash is paid to be the bodyguard of a wealthy man named Cliff Cesar.
Upon meeting him, they did not believe that this donut-loving goofball was bringing everyone to their knees.
Over time, the two girls got to know more and more about Vash and the reason behind the way that he is. They saw that he had so much more than what people were making him out to be. When they get trapped and held hostage, Vash would come to their rescue without fail.
No matter what city Vash enters, he always causes a riot of some sort. Just eating in a small establishment leads to a city going ballistic. The townsfolk hired the Nebraska Family to pursue him.
Little did they know that it was going to be way more destructive than just leaving Vash to eat in peace. It backfired in more ways than one, for sure. He is celebrated in Inepril City and the next day, he leaves the city to escape Meryl and Milly.
In every encounter with a bounty hunter, Vash never took a single life. His skill with the gun was used only to set a boundary or protect others. It was alarming how he could do so much yet harm so little in the process.
Along his travels, Vash meets a priest named Wolfwood. Nicholas Wolfwood is a kindred soul that only wanted to protect the children at the orphanage. Wolfwood even convinces Vash to enter a small competition so that they can help a woman who is in crippling debt.
The two became friends and trusted one another due to their kind personalities.
One peaceful day, Vash is met by a man that goes by the name of Legato Bluesummers. This man had the incredible ability to speak with others through his mind. He was given an ominous warning saying that someone is out to get him and he will be dead soon enough.
This would make anyone extremely cautious and nervous. Then suddenly, as if on cue, a woman frantically enters the scene claiming that her husband is dead and Vash was to be blamed for it. Yet again, he is in trouble for something.
His arrest placed him in jail where he encountered Monev the Gale, a member of the Gung-Ho Guns, who came with the intention to kill him that night.
Meryl and Milly meet a couple of elderly people fighting in the street and causing quite an uproar. The couple quickly wants to hire the two ladies to act as their bodyguards so that they can protect their plot of land.
Unknowingly, this land is infested with Morgan, a man from the Nebraska family, and his thugs.
In Jeneora Rock, the gang meets the Rodrick Thieves. It is there that they meet again with Legato, the mysterious man from before. He calls in the Gung-Ho Guns to take care of all the ruckus caused by the Rodrick Thieves.
Vash then leaves Meryl and Milly so that he can pursue Legato himself. The man has his priorities. Funny enough, Legato comes to him and tells him to meet in the city of Augusta.
It seems his reputation supersedes him because when Vash steps foot in the city, the entire place runs for it and he is greeted by E.G Mine and Rai-Dei the Blade of the Gung-Ho Guns.
We get blasts from the Vash (blast from the past, get it?) and see a flashback (or should I say Vashback? Okay, I’ll stop) of when he was a child. He was in a spaceship with a bunch of other children under the care of Rem. You can see how young Vash grew up with the others and molded him into what he is today.
Going back to the present, Meryl and Milly go back to the Bernardelli Insurance Company to continue their daily lives. This did not last long because after hearing about Vash and Wolfwood going to New Oregon, the two were assigned to track him down once again.
In New Oregon, a storm was brewing and its literal name was Typhoon Jaqueline. Vash was able to use the winds to his advantage and go to a ship in the sky.
He and Wolfwood did not have the warmest of welcomes when they boarded. Instead, here comes Leonof and a bunch of other thugs from the Gung-Ho Guns who secretly followed the two on the ship.
A massive outburst breaks loose on this skyship. Leonof warns everyone of three demons that have come aboard the ship and are on a rampage. Vash sees the horrible aftermath of the killings and is absolutely appalled by the sight of his fallen comrades.
Do you know what this means? The power of friendship and willpower makes its iconic comeback to bring the protagonist to his peak. You can hear the roar of the stampede already, Vash the Stampede.
Does it end there? Of course not. He is rushed into battle against formidable foes and faces incredible odds on this ship.
