The moment you’ll see the trailer for Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, you’ll think “Am I in the Ghibli World?”. You’re feeling correctly about the Ghibli part because Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is a collaboration between Netmarble, Studio Ghibli and Level 5.

IS NI NO KUNI: CROSS WORLDS WORTH DOWNLOADING?

Origin

Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is an MMORPG game made for Android, iOS and Windows as well. The game is created by Netmarble and was published by Level 5. The idea of the game was revealed in November 2019 and it was officially released in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan in June 2021. The game was then globally released in May 2022 in English.

Plot

The story of this game is about a player who volunteers for a beta testing of a game named “Soul Diver”. The game is a virtual reality game that ends up taking the player into another realm named “Ni no Kuni” after he interacts with a character named Rania. After waking up, our player finds himself in a city that is being destroyed and burned. As the player is escaping, he ends up in a new world known as the Kingdom of Evermore. He decides to explain the situation to the people of the Kingdom and seeks help from there. Our player starts his journey from there. He meets new people, fights enemies and tries to figure out how he ended up inside this fantasy game world.

Character Selection

The first thing that you’ll need to do before actually playing the game will be your character selection. You’d be able to customize your characters from scratch. There are 5 different classes that the player can choose from; Engineer, Destroyer, Rogue, Swordsman and Witch. Each class will let the player play differently so every player can choose the class according to his/her taste. After choosing a class, the player will be able to customize the appearance of their character. They’d be able to change their character’s eye color, hair color, body type, hair style and much more. The player would also be able to select clothes for their characters. You won’t find any character similar to yours and that’s the beauty of the customization option for the characters.

Missions

As soon as you’re done with your character, you’d be ready to play the game. There would be a main quest as well as some side quests that will keep the game going forward. Something you’ll notice while playing the game is that while being ona quest, the character won’t be able to move on its own. There’s also no option of quick travel so that might be a little annoying for some people.

The side quests are there to increase your “Reputation Level” in the game. There are certain areas which demand a certain level of Reputation Level to proceed. There are a lot of Reputation side quests that you must complete in order to continue with your main quest.

Battles

We’re able to experience a very fast-paced and straight-forward battle style. The player is able to use a single rapid attack and he also has an option of six skills as well. The skills have their individual cooldown times. While each character class is able to use a single weapon type, three different weapons can be equipped by a player at a time. The weapons can be switched easily as well. This way, the player would be able to choose a suitable weapon for the type of enemy he’s facing.

The players can also summon three familiars at a time who are able to fight in their own way and don’t need to be controlled.

Initially, the difficulty level of the game is pretty low and the player is able to defeat the early bosses easily. We’ll get to know how difficult it gets as we proceed further.

Kingdom Building

The game features a Kingdom Building aspect where it allows you to return to a nameless kingdom which is not visible on the map. You’d be able to rebuild that kingdom. You will be introduced to the mechanics of kingdom building and once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to build your own kingdom. You can also join another kingdom that is under construction by some other player or create your own. It’s all up to you.

Final Thoughts

Even though it might be a bit early to pass our judgement on this newly released MMORPG game, our initial experience with this game has been amazing. The graphics of this game are stunning, the movement is smooth, the voice acting is done flawlessly and the music sounds great. There’s even an option of a free camera view that you can use if you want. However, it;s better to use the fixed camera option when you’re in a battle. It’ll let you see the enemies from a third-person perspective.

The Ghibli-themed world and characters of this game are surely going to remind you of the beautiful Ghibli movies and you’d get to experience playing the game in a relaxed environment. This game is not too hard to play so it won’t be stressing you out as well.

We’d definitely recommend you to download this game on your phone as it’s free and is perfect for casual players. We have yet to see how things figure out in this game in the future. So for now, let’s just enjoy the moment while playing this aesthetically pleasing game!
