Welcome back, guys! Today, we are going to take a look at an anime called Toriko, and we are going to give you a guide through the filler list—that is, if you are trying to avoid watching the filler episodes or you just want to know which episodes are fillers to begin with.

So now for those who haven’t watched this anime, I am pretty sure you want to know what the anime is about. Don’t worry, because I’ve got you covered!

Before we dig into some more details, here is a complete list of the  fillers and canon episodes of the said anime series.  

 

WHAT IS TORIKO?

As you may already know, the majority of anime on the market are based on manga, and this is no exception. This anime is adapted from a manga series that Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro illustrated and wrote.

Then later on, on April 3rd, 2011, the manga was officially broadcast in Japan, and that was all made possible thanks to Toei Animation. Okay, now what is the anime about? Well, for those who are foodies or for those who like to call themselves gourmets, this anime is just for you.

In this anime, we watch or rather follow our main character, Toriko, on his journey to find rare cooking ingredients in order to make the perfect and complete full feast, so for all the foodies out there, you will get to see a lot of gourmet-food in this anime that may leave you salivating.

Now you can also find this anime on streaming platforms such as Hulu as well as Neon Alley, and that was thanks to Viz Media. It has been on this platform since April 2012.

 

HOW MANY FILLER EPISODES CAN YOU FIND IN THE ANIME?

Let me give you a quick answer—a lot. There are a lot of fillers in this anime. But now let’s get into some math.

This anime has about 147 episodes, and of that number, 20 are fillers. This gives the anime series a total of 14 filler episodes.

 

INSIGHT ON FILLER EPISODES

So here we are now. Normally I would give some details about the filler episodes so you know what to expect. Are you ready? If you are, let’s dive in.

 

Episode 1: Arrival on Gourmet Island! The Gourmet Hunter Toriko Appears

We already had an anime crossover at the start of the series. We see Luffy and his straw hat crew heading up to an island in search of food.

While on the island, they end up running into the main character of this anime, Toriko, who ends up thinking the chopper from one piece could be food. They end up clearing things up and joining arms together to get some food on the island.

They do end up getting some food, cooking together, and packing up more food for their trips.

In some scenes, we see Toriko and his crew and the straw hat crew head up the mountain in search of fruit that is supposed to be the sweetest on the island. But while on the trip, Komatsu and Nami end up getting separated from the group and they get kidnapped.

The group ends up going back down the mountain in search of Komatsu and Nami, and they find out that they were ambushed by a group of Cocoalas. Before the creatures attack the team, two people come to their rescue.

A lot goes into this episode. Talking more about it would be spoilers.

 

Episode 42: The Gourmet King Championship! Search for the Ultimate Sweets

In this episode, Toriko and his gang go out in search of food, but this time not for themselves but for a Seven-Color Nessie who is extremely hungry. While on the search for food, Toriko and his friends take a break and attend a Tenkaichi Night Festival.

During this festival, we get to see a lot of food, so for you foodies out there, try not to salivate over your screen. The reason why it is a filler is actually because of the festival. The manga does not have any scenes where Toriko enjoys the festival.

In this episode, you see Coco, Toriko, and Sunny actually enjoying the Night Festival, and you guys should know that this festival is actually only ever celebrated in the anime.

 

Episode 43: It’s a Bonding Dish! Partners Are Forever!

This episode is a continuation of the previous episode where they had to look for food to serve to the Seven-Color Nessie. In this episode, the focus is more on Rin and Komatsu.

We see how they struggle to get food for the Seven-Color Nessie. They risk their lives getting it and losing it. Do you want to find out what happens next? Well, you’ve got to watch the episode.

 

Episode 51: Toriko and Luffy Reunite! Find the Seafood Fruit!

This episode does not follow the storyline at all, it has no impact on the storyline at all, and it does not have any association with the manga. Just another filler episode where we get to see characters from the one-piece anime.

We kick off this episode with the main character fishing at sea. Komatsu ends up catching some fish, and you won’t believe what they found in one of the fish’s mouths. Luffy pops up from the mouth to surprise everyone.

Then we end up seeing other characters, such as Sunny and a sick Chopper, and to help cure his illness, they need to find a particular seafood fruit. And to do this, Toriko and Luffy’s team need to go to an island called Tou-Chinese Island.

They end up heading to the island in search of the rare fruit, but they have got some competition. Their competition would do their possible best to get their hands on the fruit too. What do these competitions want with the fruit? By the way, they are actually Chinese chefs.

So in order to find out, I guess you need to watch the anime, right?

 

Episode 69: Surpass Dad! Midsummer Katsu Curry Gobbling!

In this episode, we follow Toriko as he goes on an adventure after agreeing to help his favorite curry store look for ingredients for them. Mind you, some of these ingredients are extremely dangerous.

He even has to look at a water tiger, an extremely dangerous animal. What do you think will happen in this episode?

 

Episode 70: Making Bonds! Gatsugatsu Curry to Die For!

This episode is a continuation of the previous. In this episode, we get to see Toriko in action as he fights against the water tiger. On the other hand, we have Komatsu, who tries to revive an old cooking spark for a chef who used to cook curry.

 

Episode 80: Splendid Presentation! Supreme Service With a Meal!

In this episode, we see Melk the Second trying to create a one-of-a-kind knife, but she needs an ingredient to complete it.

So Komatsu and Toriko try to help her by getting her into a competition where the final price is the ingredient Melk, the second she needs to finish her knife.

 

Episode 81: Supreme Chitose Ame! Komatsu and Yun’s Tale!

In this episode, a priest is trying to create candy that is supposed to have special features, but he ends up needing the help of Toriko and Komatsu, so he reaches out to them for their help.

They try to help the priest find a special ingredient that would help him complete his special candy, but while doing so, a Wall Penguin sneaks out and follows them, so now they have to try and find the penguin when he goes missing. Would they be able to handle both tasks?

 

Episode 82: Gather on Autumn Mountain! Terry, Yun, Kiss, the Queen!

In this episode, Yun, Toriko, and Komatsu, alongside Terry, have to work with Coco and Sunny as they go to find a rare ingredient, but as you know, nothing ever goes as planned as they run into a huge surprise on their way.

 

Episode 86: The Gathering of the Four Kings! A Midwinter Night’s Miracle!

Toriko and his team go out to a location with a very harsh cold temperature. When they go out looking for a mythical tree, they say this tree is completely edible. I wonder what amazing dish would be made from this ingredient.

 

Episode 99: Run, Strongest Army! Toriko, Luffy, Goku!

In this episode, the International Gourmet Organization (IGO) is holding a competition for the World’s Best Eating Tournament. Where the competitors gather from different races to partake in this competition on a particular island.

And the winner of the competition will receive a rare Carat Sizzled Cattle. We see Toriko and his team aiming to win the competition, but we also get to see the Strawhat crew also participating in the competition.

Now surprise guys, we get to see one more guest that you wouldn’t believe actually appeared here. Yep, Goku and his friends from Dragon Ball Z are also participating in the competition.

Now, this is a tough one because, having watched all three anime, I believe the characters from both One Piece and Dragon Ball Z are food lovers. This is going to be a tough competition. Who do you think will win?

Episode 112: The Legendary Bee

We get to see Toriko and Komatsu in action as they go up against a GT Robo, which is a Gourmet Telexistence Robot. This robot is used for research purposes where they can get to locations that humans are unable to reach for research purposes.

Now we see Toriko and Komatsu go up against the robot while on a mission to find the Golden Wheat.

 

Episode 124: Toriko VS Gurume-kai no Kaibutsu “Monpuran”

In this episode, everyone is tense as we see Toriko fight against a deadly plant beast that I believe is from the Gourmet World.

Then we see Coco in search of some information, while Komatsu has trouble of his own, where he starts to over-think how he performed at a popular cooking festival.

 

Episode 125: Toriko’s New Technique

In this episode, we see Toriko struggle against the plant beast. Now he has to figure out a way to win against this beast, so we see a character development, or should I say, a power development.

Then we also watch as we see Komatsu preparing worriedly for the next cooking festival.

Now that there is a little insight into some of the things that will happen in some filler episodes, which of the episodes would you watch first? I am guessing it will be Episode 99.

 

PLOT

Now let me tell you what this story is about. Like I already said before, the main character, Toriko, is in search of ingredients for his full-course meal, but here are more details. Toriko is actually a hunter, and he has been traveling around the world for one purpose: to cook the perfect full-course meal.

But in order for him to achieve his goal, he has to hunt for rare animals that will serve as rare ingredients. By the way, these animals are wild, so he has to fight and overpower them in order to get these items. Luckily for him, he does have inhuman strength, and while doing so, he gets stronger.

Toriko is not the only one you’ll see in this anime. He does have his trusted sidekick, who is a very shy chef named Komatsu. He got inspired by seeing how Toriko was determined to achieve his goals, so he decided to follow Toriko on his journey. So, expect some character development in this anime.

Now, obviously, you didn’t think it would be that easy for Toriko to achieve his dreams, right? Well, if you did, you are wrong. And that is because of the Gourmet Corps.

This is a group of people who plan on controlling the world’s food supply and are also looking for a special ingredient called “GOD”—something that a character used about five centuries ago to end a war. This is way before the timeline in which the anime series kicks off.

The question now is whether Toriko will be able to accomplish his objective now. To find out, you’ll have to watch the anime.
