Who doesn’t like a good anime with demonic children in it? Well, that got dark pretty quickly, didn’t it? Even though Dororo has average animation as compared to anime released today, its storyline, characters, and action make it stand out from the rest of them. 

This anime gets dark very quickly. The story of Dororo revolves around a child who was born limbless due to the sacrifice his father made to become the strongest. As this child grows, he starts knocking out evil creatures, which results in the healing or regeneration of Hyakkimaru’s body parts. So, if you’re planning to watch Dororo, you should definitely watch it! 

Dororo was released in 2019 and was animated by Mappa Studio. Can you all believe it? Since many anime tend to have lots of filler, this blog will tell you whether Dororo has any filler episodes or not. Let’s get started to find out!

As I’ve mentioned earlier, the story of Dororo revolves around Hyakkimaru, who was born a limbless child and fights evil creatures. His father was the governor of the Kaga Province. He wanted more and more power. As a result, he sacrificed his own child. Sounds pretty intense, right? And then people say that anime is for kids! 

Anyways, let’s have a deeper look into the story and find out what happens after the birth of this limbless child, Hyakkimaru. As the real story begins, we find out that Hyakkimaru, doesn’t have any limbs and walks around normally. There’s a whole new story behind him walking like a normal person.

So, Juka sensei is a doctor who came across Hyakkimaru on a riverbank when he was just an infant. Yes, he was abandoned by his own parents. Juka Sensei is known for his skills in prosthetics. Therefore, he made some prosthetics for Hyakkimaru which enabled him to walk as he grew up. After Hyakkimaru turned six, the doctor gave him the name “Hyakkimaru”. 

The real secret is exposed when Hyakkimaru kills a demonic lizard, which results in the regeneration of his leg. That was pretty interesting for Hyakkimaru. That’s when he decided to take down more demons. Without the ability to see and hear, our boy took down many demons, and as a result, he kept regenerating his body. Did I tell you that his arm could turn into a katana? 

Before the regeneration of his limbs, Juka sensei made many assumptions about him, which turned out to be correct. He thought that the demons were attracted to this child and were after him. In fact, those demons took the body parts of Hyakkimaru. So, coming back to the present, Hyakkimaru has achieved another ability, which is to “feel pain”. Yes! Although I would really like the “no-pain” feeling, what about you guys? 

One day, it was raining, and Hyakkimaru experienced rain for the very first time in his life. He comes across a man with a demon sword and goes after him. He kills him by confining his sword to his prosthetic leg. After this fight, Hyakkimaru gets his ears! How interesting is the concept of regeneration, though! 

After achieving the ability to hear, Hyakkimaru faces difficulty adjusting to this world. After a while, he comes across a woman singing a song, which makes him collapse. He was badly injured after fighting a huge bird. Hyakkimaru wanted to find out more about that girl, therefore, he decided to follow her, and that’s when he found out that she was putting herself in danger.

While our boy was still healing, he decided to fight for the girl against dangerous demons. Hyakkimaru slowly gets used to his hearing and his own voice after defeating a bunch of demons. He also gets the help of Mio, who was the singing lady. 

After a while, he confronts the Daigo troops who are after him. He decides to go berserk and eventually ends up killing all of them. Yes, for a bit, we all thought that Hyakkimaru had become a demon or something. It’s definitely true that Hyakkimaru is one of the most badass MCs of all time. So, if that’s your type, you should definitely watch Dororo! 

Anyways, moving on, we see a female spider demon named Jorogumo who keeps a man as a hostage. Little did she know, our boy Hyakkimaru is quite strong and as usual, he attacked her and wounded her badly. Coward spider woman runs away. Yajiro is one of the kindest characters in the anime, but he’s quite slow-witted too.

He can’t really tell whether a woman is a demon or a human. So, yes, he mistook a demon for a woman. He took her home since everyone was after her and took good care of her. In fact, he even named her Ohagi. Well, Hyakkimaru shows up and defeats the demon girl. But there’s much more to  this story. If you’re curious to find out, watch Dororo! 

During Hyakkimaru’s journey a character named Dororo shows up who’s very friendly, kind, and cheerful. Sometimes Dororo gets annoying too but Hyakkimaru protects Dororo at all costs. So, their relationship is quite wholesome as well! A lot more happened in the story but I won’t give you further spoilers. So, if you found the plot interesting, you can watch Dororo! Trust me, it’s never too late. I watched Dororo in 2021. So don’t worry and get started, grab your popcorn! Now, it’s time to introduce you guys to the characters of Dororo! 

MAIN CHARACTERS

Hyakkimaru 

Hyakkimaru is the main character of the series, Dororo. He’s a samurai without a master. Hyakkimaru faced an intense childhood since he was born limbless and didn’t have a home of his own. Courtesy of Juka sensei, who helped him with his prosthetics just so this boy could walk around easily. On his journey to defeat all the demons and to get his body parts back, he is accompanied by a young thief named Dororo. 

Let’s talk about his personality now. Hyakkimaru’s personality wasn’t revealed that much since he couldn’t express himself. With the least access to the world, we get to find out that this boy has a curious nature and is a very naive guy. What gets me weak about him is the fact that he likes the feeling of warmth and comfort.

Just imagine how hard his childhood must have been to like comfort this much. How badly did he need the comfort? These are the things that make me pity him, as well as respect him, since he grew up just fine taking down demons. Yes, that’s a proud mom moment. 

If you’re curious about his skills, let me tell you! His physical abilities are enhanced more than any other person since this boy possesses demonic strength. Of course, his physical strength is on another level as compared to other ordinary humans. Another impressive skill of his includes the ability to look through other people’s souls.

He can literally tell who’s after him through the aura he sees! It’s pretty impressive how he took down such powerful demons by identifying their dark souls. Isn’t that right? 

When it comes to swordsmanship, oh boy! Nobody could really surpass him. He learnt swordsmanship all by himself. He grew up without a master, so that’s pretty cool of him. I might have told you before that his arm can turn into a katana. So, if you see Hyakkimaru in the streets, you better hide under your sheets! That’s it for Hyakkimaru! Dororo

Next off, we have Dororo. He’s known to be one of the youngest thieves in the village. She wanders around the village all by herself. Her identity is often hidden. Like, you can’t tell whether she’s a girl or a boy. But yes, she’s a girl who pretends to be a boy sometimes.

Even though Dororo looks young and naive, yet, she’s very clever. She tends to play naughty tricks when it comes to trapping others. So, she’s one of the first and most daring friends of Hyakkimaru. We all need such a friend by our side, isn’t that right?
