Greetings, my fellow anime fans! Do you love a slice-of-life comedy with cute girls doing cute stuff, and it’s definitely a plus if you’ve watched Soul Eater? You came to the right place then, as I’m sure you’re likely wondering if Soul Eater NOT! has fillers as the title itself says otherwise.

Soul Eater NOT! is a spin-off and serves as a prequel to the original series. Just like Soul Eater, we have those that can become weapons and the guys that use them. The weapon and the Meister go to a special school built for these special individuals, D.W.M.A. or Death Weapon Meister Academy.

While the majority aspire to become warriors of justice, such as the main series heroes, others like Tsugumi Harudori, simply wish to control their powers to live a happy life and avoid being a burden to their friends and loved ones. 

Now that I’ve piqued your interest before digging into this anime, I highly recommend you watch Soul Eater first so you can better understand and appreciate both the characters and setting. Without further ado, we present to you the complete Soul Eater NOT! Filler list!

SOUL EATER NOT! PLOT 

Soul Eater NOT! season one started airing on April 8, 2014, and ran up to July 2, 2014. It has a total of 12 episodes, and each episode lasts 23 minutes. The studio behind the animation was Bones, which is also the one that animated the highly acclaimed Fullmetal Alchemist series and other notable titles. Although there’s a bit of inconsistency in some of the fight scenes, they still did a decent job with the anime and did justice to the manga source material.

Although there is some filler content mixed in to expand the length of the anime, it’s nothing serious enough to jeopardize the actual plot of the manga. I wouldn’t have it any other way since I love the added yuri vibe sprinkled on it together with the power of friendship. It really makes my heart skip a beat!

If you’ve finished browsing through all of the tables of Soul Eater NOT!, you might have an inkling of an idea of how the story went by. Don’t fret, for I, the astral adventurer extraordinaire, having traversed the very fabric of existence itself, shall guide you throughout the story of Soul Eater NOT!.

The heroine of our story, Tsugumi Harudori, is a 14-year-old washboard of a cute girl living a particularly normal life until some incident in the kitchen with the family pet dog took place, which led to the discovery of her being a demon weapon in the form of a halberd. My personal advice is to never mess with dogs, as they can be scary from time to time and can turn your life upside down beyond imagination.

Tsugumi goes to Death Weapon Meister Academy, which is located in the fictional Death City somewhere in Nevada, United States. She’s going to be educated in the ways of the weapon within her. She goes to her school one final time and says farewell to all of her classmates. Uncertain as the circumstances may seem, Tsugumi still wears a smile on her face and strives to live her life the way she wants it to be.

Continuing on with the story itself, as Tsugumi tries to come to terms with her new found powers as a demon weapon, she is left with little choice but to leave her normal school life and enroll in Death Weapon Meister Academy, or D.W.M.A for short, to learn how to control her powers in order to become a functional member of society and not harm herself or the people around her.

On her way to the Death Weapon Meister Academy, she somehow hesitated climbing the staircase. However, as she was about to give up, Maka Albarn showed up and gave her the encouragement she needed to continue climbing. Then, after reaching the top, she was rewarded with a beautiful view of Death City and a can of energy drink. How sweet! 

In addition, Tsugumi fantasizes of having a brighter future at Death Weapon Meister Academy with many suitors flocking towards her, admiring her abilities and beautiful charm despite how flat she is. However, reality is quick to remind her how preposterous or absurd of an idea it is, washing away her self-esteem down the dumpsters. However, in the middle of such misfortune, something surprisingly pleasant happened that would make a positive difference in her life.

As Tsugumi arrives at Death Weapon Meister Academy, she meets and befriends Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn, meisters capable of wielding demon weapons such as herself included. Along their journey as a trio, they’ve encountered many interesting characters and gotten caught in a number of shenanigans. As time passes, Tsugumi starts to cherish their friendship. However, she’s having a hard time deciding on a partner between the two as she fears offending both of their feelings, something of an emotional minefield for her. 

Although Tsugumi, Meme, and Anya are close friends, a rift is beginning to form between the trio’s friendship due to Tsugumi’s indecisiveness in selecting her soon-to-be partner as it is required of her, being a demon weapon halberd and all. Then again, Tsugumi tries to buy time for herself by changing the subject whenever the issue is being raised during one of their lively conversations.

To make matters much worse, not everything is rainbows and sunshine though, as a clear and present danger lurks deep within in the shadows, plotting to cause death and destruction throughout Death City and its inhabitants. Not to mention, traitors are hiding from the people. A wicked witch of considerate power and evil intentions makes sure that the people at Death Weapon Meister Academy will be punished one day.

As events turn out for the worse and a couple of disturbing incidents take place within Death City. A number of Death Weapon Meister Academy students start going crazy, indiscriminately attacking both the citizens of the city and students alike, injuring plenty of people on both sides following these bizarre events, blurring the lines between friends and foes.

In the blink of an eye, chaos and destruction ensue from the sudden appearance of the witch, Shaula. She and her mind-control minions attack scores of innocent bystanders and Death Weapon Meister Academy students alike. Amidst it all, one of Tsugumi’s friends happened to be one of the traitors, forcing her to figure out a difficult way to confront the newfound threat without killing them outright.

With high stakes on the line, Tsugumi and two of her most loyal and caring friends Tatane and Anya steel themselves for the inevitable showdown with the scheming witch Shaula and her numerous minions which will be quite the undertaking. Who’s going to triumph in this chaotic conflict? Will it be the forces of darkness that the witch Shaula commands, or will it be the power of friendship that prevails this day?
