Ahh yes, another Isekai where the main character will have great powers, be OP, and get the best waifus—if you think Konosuba (short for Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!) is like that, I will stop you there. You’re in for a surprise. Well, don’t worry, the waifus are still there, just not the normal ones.

In the anime community, we all know that Isekai is rising in popularity, and with so many series releasing with the same concept, it’s hard to find a show that is unique, but Konosuba did a great job of standing out.
As far as comedies go, Konosuba is surely one of my favorites, and maybe it will be yours too. There aren’t many anime that can make me laugh like this one did. With not-so-normal characters, it’s really the cherry on top, and the parody of Isekai tropes with a heroic main character (yes, the main MC will be very heroic here and a gentleman, sarcasm included).

Konosuba History
Konosuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World Season 1 started wayyyy back in January 2016 and it ended in March of the same year. Season 2 premiered in January 2017 and ended in March of the same year again! Coincidence? I think not! It was adapted from the original light novel material. It has a total of 20 episodes, and each episode lasts for 23 minutes.
It was even animated by Studio Deen—in all fairness, they did a good job animating Konosuba, especially the Explosion scene. Konosuba followed its source faithfully, and I am happy to tell you that there are no fillers and all of the episodes are 100% canon.
PLOT
Now, after knowing that there are no fillers, let me tell you the story of the anime that you’re going to watch next.
Our main character, Satou Kazuma, a hikikomori, or shut-in otaku, after dying a hilarious and pathetic death, meets Aqua, an obnoxious, useless goddess that guides people who die young in the afterlife.
The story kicks off when Satou Kazuma decides to go outside of his house to buy a popular game that is on sale. On his way home, he saw a girl that was going to get hit by a tractor, which he thought was a truck. Doing something out of character, he pushes the girl to save her. Then Satou Kazuma died, not because he was hit but because he was so shocked and scared to the point of peeing in his pants and dying of a heart attack. He woke up in the afterlife, and there he met the goddess, Aqua.
The goddess, Aqua, gives Kazuma two choices: To start as a baby again or to go to Heaven and be an old man. But “heaven isn’t as nice as you think it is.” Aqua added that there are no anime, games, or manga, but it’s not good to start as a baby again. So Aqua gave an offer to live in another world and defeat the demon king. To Kazuma, a gamer, living in another world was a dream come true.So, it was decided that Kazuma would go to another world with a weapon or an object that could help him defeat the demon king. Kazuma was so annoyed by Aqua that as revenge, he chose her. But that was a blunder because Aqua is completely useless!!!
But that was only the beginning of Kazuma’s misfortunes. He found out that the world is not like anime, and he knew that he wouldn’t get powerful and have a group of girls loving him. There is no money, just a useless goddess, nothing to help them. Kazuma and Aqua start their journey by surviving and will have to postpone their thrilling adventures.

You can watch all the episodes of Konosuba on Crunchyroll and Netflix. It’s available in English Sub and Dub. And honestly, you should watch Konosuba if you’re having a bad day, a boring day, or even a great day!
It’s one of the Isekai anime that actually did a great job using those boring tropes. I really have to say this again and again but it is REALLY FUNNY! The characters are better written than the usual Isekai protagonist with the Kirito hair and they actually have “likable” personalities. Again, if you haven’t watched Konosuba, go check it out and you will never regret it.
