Complete Monogatari Series Filler List (OFFICIAL)

The Monogatari Series is one of the most complicated anime to follow. Not only is the timeline difficult to understand, but the chronological release order is also difficult to follow.

As of now, the manga is divided into 5 principal seasons, you have the First Season, then the Second Season, after that comes the Final Season, followed by the Off Season, and finally we have the Monster Season.

The three first seasons already have an anime adaptation that is composed of multiple installments. Every installment gets its own unique arc:

Bakemonogatari (2009-2010)

This anime begins in reverse. Koyomi Araragi was in no way a normal high school student since, from day one, he was struggling to get back to his human form after being turned into a vampire. A strange old man helped him and cured him. He gave him back a kind of normal life. I mean, the guy has already stepped into the world of the supernatural, he can’t really get out of it with ease.

He returned to school while he was still rejecting remnants of the vampire parts of his body. He was determined that when he’d completely finished his transition, he’d put all his being behind him and move forward anew.

Circumstances decided otherwise, since he just had to meet a girl hunted by the supernatural. Hitagi Senjougahara is a student attending the same school as our MC. She was running down the stairs when she stumbled and fell Koyomi.

He immediately realized that the girl was weightless. Not weightless as in super skinny, but literally weightless. She ran off, but still, he couldn’t just leave her alone. He believed that something from his world was affecting her, and he was determined to help. After lots and lots of convincing, he persuaded her to come with him to see the guys that helped him once before. This is where the story truly begins.

Nisemonogatari (2012)

Here, we will still follow the adventures of our two main characters as each one is struggling with their own personal problems.

Two new important characters will be introduced during this specific arc, Koyomi’s two younger sisters, Karen Araragi and Tsukihi Araragi.

Since their brother is now affiliated with the supernatural, their lives are about to change and become much weirder.

Nekomonogatari Black (2012)

Tsubasa Hanekawa is an A-student and the impeccable class president of the MC’s class. Not only that, Koyomi Araragi owes the girl the life that he just managed to get back.

Now that same girl was in trouble since she was enchanted by a supernatural cat during the Golden Week.

In order to help her, a normal human will have to play with fire and become something that looks more like a monster than anything else. A line will have to be drawn between the two worlds that he inhabits, but can he keep that line clear?

Nine catastrophic days are approaching where all that was kept secret and hidden will come into the light for the better or the worst.

Nekomonogatari White  (2013)

Tsubasa Hanekawa’s problems are far from solved. She has just begun her second semester, and there is a terrifying tiger stalking her every move. Our fearless MC, Koyomi Araragi, can only help her, but what exactly is he planning to do?

Well, I’m sure that his mind is not in the right place right now since a romantic confession will soon hit him in the face.

Kabukimonogatari (2013)

The Nadeko Snake left some spirit particles back at the shrine. Using those particles, Araragi Koyomi and Oshino Shinobu are planning to go back eleven years into the past.

When they did, Koyomi changed the fate of Hachikuji Mayoi and saved her from the car accident she was going to be the victim of.

The butterfly effect activated, so when they returned to their original timeline, the world that they used to know was drastically transformed. 

Messing with timelines has horrifying consequences, and our MC found that out the hard way. Let’s see how he is going to fix the mess that he made.

Otorimonogatari (2013)

Nadeko Sengoku was previously controlled by a winding serpent. So technically, that glitch is fixed.

That same girl is also head over heels for our MC, Koyomi Araragi, and is now appearing before him as a pure white angel. However, appearances can be deceiving. In the end, the devil himself will tempt you with purity and beauty, if you get what I mean.

Onimonogatari (2013)

Araragi and Hachikuji are in serious trouble. There is a near-indescribable void that has been after them for a while for a reason they can’t quite put their hands on.

The solution to all their problems can be found in the memories of Shinobu and the visions of literal know-it-all Izuko Gaen.

However, the price they will have to pay for peace of mind is a high one since Mayoi will have to abandon her existence as a Lost Cow and leave their world forever.

Koimonogatari (2013)

Hitagi Senjougahara was forced to enter a contract with the gods in order to keep Koyomi Araragi safe, a contract that she had to seal with her own life. Well, for me it’s more like a deal with the devil really.

Her payment due date was approaching and when a choice arose before her, she picked the nastiest option possible. Her excuse was: “Don’t you think unrequited love that lasts forever is happier than mutual love?”

What would be your answer to that question?

Hanamonogatari (2014)

Seiu Higasa heard that there was a rumor going around saying that there was a Devil that is solving the problems of people in need.

In the beginning, she thought that the Devil that everyone is talking about might be her. However, after further investigation, she discovered that the rumor is based on one of her basketball rivals, Rouka Numachi.

The retired player is suffering from the aftermath of an accident that occurred during a match. Her left leg is in a cast making it impossible for her to go back into a basket court.

When the cat was out of the bag, Numachi explained her actions to Seiu saying that she is collecting people’s hardships so she can make herself feel a little bit better about her situation.

Tsukimonogatari (2014)

Koyomi Araragi has been living with his head in the sand for a while now. However, he cannot escape reality anymore, the college entrance exam is at his door and he has no other choice but to face them.

Like this wasn’t enough of a pain in the butt, his body was also undergoing unexplainable changes.

Owarimonogatari (Part 1) (2015)

Book One:

Despair came in the form of a mysterious transfer student with eyes as black as night. His name is Ougi Oshino. Only horrifying prophecies come out of her mouth, and yet she narrates that terrifying future with a smile on her face. The end is near!

Book Two:

Something extremely precious is residing inside Suruga Kanbaru’s body. Koyomi Araragi is undergoing a test that will mark the end of his journey. A warrior from 400 years in the past appears in our modern days. Youth will not come to a conclusion until his story is shared.

Book Three

The end of Youth. The first day of college. An intense battle to mark the beginning of those new days.

Koyomimonogatari (2016)

Twelve different and unrelated short adventures based on our MC, Koyomi, from those memorable Spring Break vacations to the completion of university exams.

Owarimonogatari (Part 2) (2017)

After a small side break, the Owarimonogatari events continue.

Zoku Owarimonogatari (2019)

It’s the morning after graduation day. Koyomi Araragi doesn’t feel like a high schooler anymore and certainly not a college student either. He completely lost his identity, he felt like he turned into a nobody in a mere night.

He goes into the bathroom, the mirror is somehow weird, he touches it, his hands go right through, the mirror turns purple, looks like it’s not really the time to be lamenting about the future, his adventure is not over just yet.

Conclusion

The Monogatari Anime Series has been running from 2009 to 2019 and, as you can see, in the 100 episodes that were released, not one filler episode was included.

The three movies that were released were also part of the main story, making the anime 100% filler-free.
