The first season of FLCL has six episodes. All these six episodes serve as the epic opening to the entire series that ends with a note of suspense, one that’d push you to see season two as soon as possible.

The plot revolves around Haruko Haruhara, a narcissistic alien drawn to the mythical Japanese borough of Mabase by the Medical Meccanica building, who uses Naota Nandaba, a 12-year-old child in the very first season, and Hidomi Hibajiri, a 14-year-old child in season two as minions in her plot to procure the being known as Atomsk.

And the series follows a perfect order in the following exact watch order:

  1. Season One: FLCL
  2. Season Two: FLCL Progressive; The Movie
  3. Season Three: FLCL Alternative; The Movie

FLCL Series OVAs Release Order

The FLCL Ova has been released in the following Order:

1. Fooly Coolyflcl s1e1 e1649153474874

The plot of Fooly Cooly begins with Naota heading home with Mamimi, his elder brother’s ex-girlfriend. He gets attacked by an extraterrestrial girl riding a yellow Vespa scooter and wielding a 1976 Rickenbacker bass guitar.

All of this takes place in the town of Mabase, which the Medical Machine plant occupies. The next day, Naota discovers that Haruko, the extraterrestrial girl, has been recruited as a cleaner in his father’s bakery.

2. Fire Starterflcl s1e2 e1649153564531

Mamimi has seen strange things and a black-winged angel out of a game she continues playing on her mobile computer. Naota’s skull is filled with increasingly more prominent and stranger bumps. Haruko examines Naota’s head and determines that he lacks a brain. Naota’s head appears to be filled by robots.

3. Marquis de Carabasflcl s1e3 e1649153635281

Ninamori is a classmate of Naota’s. Her father, the mayor, has been suspected of having an affair with his secretary. Ninamori has also reluctantly cast Naota as the lead part in the school play. Naota’s skull is sprouting even more bizarre forms!

4. Full Swingflcl s1e4 e1649153688815

Haruko has decided to join the opposing league and is getting on with Kamon too well. Naota has no weird bulges on his head anymore. Still, he does have some beacon there, which the Bureau of Interstellar Immigration is following.

5. Brittle Bulletflcl s1e5 e1649153727243

Haruko begins to shift her focus from Kamon to Naota, causing the latter to become envious. They decide to “duel” for Haruko, which amounts to a violent airsoft shootout with Canti and Kamon. Lieutenant Kitsurubami unsuccessfully tries to blow Canti away during the struggle.

When Mamimi notices Naota’s close friendship with Haruko, she confronts him about how much he likes her, prompting him to question her. Ultimately, his N.O. channel erupts into one of the most significant objects ever, a leviathan robot, as Commander Amarao, his backup shooters, and Haruko engage in a gunfight.

6. FLCLimaxflcl s1e6 e1649153776403

In conclusion, life in Mabase has returned to normal. A year has gone by since Haruko left, and Naota and his pals have started junior high school. Naota and Ninamori have a usual quarrel over drinks, hinting at some modest symptoms of romance.

Haruko’s guitar was preserved in Naota’s room as a memory; whether he learned to use it or not is unclear. Mamimi abandoned Mabase to study photography, he says. “Nothing exciting ever occurs here,” Naota concludes his farewell monologue, echoing his assertion from the opening episode that contradicts the events of the story arc.
