Imagine being the only poor student who got into a prestigious academy through a scholarship and was then surrounded by wealthy and spoiled kids. Not to mention stumbling into a Host Club and shattering a really expensive vase for which you will never be able to pay. What will you do?

Haruhi Fujioka, the protagonist of the anime Ouran Highschool Host Club, went through that dilemma even though she was just looking for a quiet place to study. In addition to that, the boys in charge of the host club thought that she was a guy. What a mess she’s gotten into!
You’ve most probably come across this anime at least once. Ever since its release in 2006, this has been a favorite of a lot of anime fanatics. The good thing with this anime is that it has no filler episodes so you have all the 26 episodes all to yourself.
The plot of Ouran Highschool Host Club isn’t just about Haruhi repaying her debt to the Host Club; it’s also a combination of romance and comedy that will make your heart go doki doki.

CHARACTERS
Let me introduce you to the characters who made this anime so entertaining. There’s a chance there will be a spoiler. If you don’t like it, you may stop reading now, but if you want to know more, keep reading.
Haruhi is the main female character, who, before becoming one of the club’s hosts, became their lackey for shattering a valuable vase, which cost around 800 million yen ($72,600). So, in order to repay the vase, she agreed to work as the host club’s errand boy (I called it errand boy because she was mistaken for a man due to her short hair and boyish appearance).
Since a host club is about pleasing ladies, what do you think it should be composed of? Of course, handsome, attractive, cute and rich guys that have so much time showing hospitality to lovely and cute ladies who also have so much extra time. The host club is in the prestigious Ouran Academy’s abandoned music room. No bother looking it up guys, it’s only a fictional school for the rich in Bunkyo, Tokyo. The Host Club has six gentlemen who are known for their smooth sweet talks and unique charming personalities.
First, I’d like to introduce Hikaru Hitachiin and Kaoru Hitachiin, the mischievous twin brothers who like to tease girls by displaying their brotherly affection for each other. (I believe those ladies are huge fans of BL novels.)
Takashi Morinozuka is next, a quiet but athletic type who draws women with his muscular features.
Haninozuka joins Mori in capturing the hearts of ladies who enjoy cute things. His childlike features are actually a trap for those who have a fascination for overwhelmingly cute guys. In other words, Haninozuka or Honey can be your young cute stuffed toy that you can carry home, love, and treat as if he were your own little baby.
The urge to pinch his cheeks or letting him sleep on your lap are what draws ladies to choose him. Who can resist the charm of a cute small child? If you can, then maybe you’re a robot. The vice president of the host club, Ootori Kyouya, is next on the list. If the other four males didn’t make your heart go doki doki, this guy might. He’s the type of man who is always composed, intelligent, and unbelievably cool.
If you’re a straight guy, you definitely need to be like him. If you’re a lady then you’d definitely make him your knight in shining armor. He’s the typical anime guy that ladies would shriek in romantic excitement.
Since he’s smart, he’s dependable and handles all the financial and planning aspects of the Host Club, like managing budgets. He’s also the first one who figured out that Haruhi was a girl from the beginning.
Finally, we have Tamaki Suoh—labelled “Mr. Obnoxious” by Haruhi. Tamaki was only recognized as a King by Kyouya because of his stature, attractiveness, and prince charming attributes. With a snap of his fingers and suave speech, he captivates ladies.
Despite his stunning looks and charisma, he is kind of an air-head as he was the last person to notice that Haruhi was a girl. He only found out when he entered the room without hesitation while Haruhi was still changing clothes and saw Haruhi in her underwear.
Tamaki walked slowly out of the room, embarrassed because it was the first time he had seen a girl change her clothes. It appears that Tamaki, the host club’s King, was still an innocent guy after all. He was also embarrassed because it had taken him so long to realize Haruhi was a girl.
Despite this, Haruhi remained in the host club and in fact, she got promoted from being an errand boy to being one of the hosts and instantly becoming one of the most requested of the ladies in Ouran Host Club.
CONCLUSION
So, if you enjoy romantic comedy anime, this will surely fit your taste. Because it has a lot of those cheesy and typical funny high school romance vibes that every young high schooler desires. Apart from getting hit on by six cute and handsome guys, that is.
Oh, and although the rest of the gentlemen are well-bred and smart, Haruhi is a commoner who is plain and humble in which most of us can relate to. This anime truly demonstrates how a regular individual can change and influence the lives of people from prominent families.
You will also without doubt have an LSS with their opening soundtrack, Sakura Kiss. That song really sticks in your mind and you can’t help but sing along.
That’s all, folks! Go ahead and watch it, so I won’t be the only one fan-girling over the six gentlemen. This masterpiece is fun to watch, and if you do watch it, you might not even notice the time at all.
