Slam Dunk History

Slam Dunk was originally a manga written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. It first got published from 1990 to 1996 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. An anime adaptation was released in October 1993 and ended in March 1996 with a total of 101 episodes. Four films were also released between 1994 and 1995.
Slam Dunk Story

We’re introduced to Hanamichi Sakuragi who is a fierce young boy, infamous for his nasty temper. He enrolls in Shohoku High School with only one goal in mind; to get a girlfriend. Now, Hanamichi has failed to get a girlfriend countless times before. He got rejected by girls again and again. He got ostracized because of that. Another fun fact about Hanamichi is that he HATES basketball.
Soon, Hanamichi comes across a girl named Haruko Akagi and falls in love with her at first sight. She did not know who Hanamichi was and started talking to him. She asked Hanamichi if he liked basketball, to which he said yes because he started liking her. Now, Akagi leads him to the gymnasium and tells him to do a slam dunk in front of her. Hanamichi tried to slam dunk but failed miserably. However, Akagi saw something in him and urged him to join the basketball team. Hanamichi then involved himself with the sport he despised the most.
Slam Dunk Filler Episodes
Slam Dunk has very few filler episodes in it. 11 episodes out of 101 make about 10% of fillers. We’re going to be talking about the filler episodes of Slam Dunk so you won’t have to watch them. So, let’s move on!
1. Episode 47 (Challenge From a Rival)

In this episode, we see the team, Shohoku, defeating Shoyo. Hanamichi did an amazing job as he was able to slam dunk on the great Toru Hanagata. We’re later introduced to Tatsumasa Oda who happened to go to the same middle school as Hanamichi. Now, he’s going to face Kainan High along with his team. He hopes to defeat Kainan High just as Hanamichi and his team defeated Shoyo High. But will they be able to defeat the great Kainan High who are known as the “Kings of Kanagawa”?
2. Episode 85 (New Challenge: The National Championship)

Our boys from the Shohoku basketball team have made a name in basketball after they qualified for the National Championship Games. They made their way through after facing many hurdles and defeating a lot of tough teams. Kaede Rukawa from Shohoku High is getting extra attention because of his phenomenal way of playing and our boy, Hanamichi, is not liking this at all. Both Kaede and Hanamichi do not get along well at all. Kaede Rukawa has no plans on stopping because he is a highly ambitious guy and wants to keep moving forward and of course, makes Hanamichi angry.
3. Episode 86 (Rukawa’s Ambition)

After getting defeated by Shohoku High and losing their chance of playing the National Championship Games, two members of Ryonan High, Jun Uozumi and Ryoji Ikegami, decide to leave their basketball team. Now, Akira Sendo is left to be the leader of the team of Ryonan High. Hikoichi Aida’s older sister, Yayoi Aida who is a basketball team reporter, wants to do an interview with Akira Sendo. Her editor told her to not do that because Ryonan High had already lost. But Yayoi still wants to do it.
4. Episode 90 (Shohoku’s True Star)

Hanamichi just can’t accept the fact that Kaede is getting better at playing basketball with each new day. He wants to challenge Kaede in order to see who is the best among the two of them. He also wants to let Kaede know that he is the one who is the appropriate ace for the basketball team of Shohoku High. On the other hand, Takenori Akagi, who is the captain of the team of Shohoku High, is approached by the Coach of the basketball team of Shintai University. He wants Akagi to join their basketball team after graduating from Shohoku High School.
5. Episode 92 (Male Friendship!? Sakuragi Gang)

In this episode, we see Sakuragi’s friends struggling to earn money in order to be able to go watch the National Championship Games. They start doing part-time jobs for that. They unknowingly send their first pay-check and end up helping their employee instead as there was a typhoon strike. Hanamichi takes all their money to be able to go to the National Championship Games and attend his match with Jousei High. He then learns that he’s not going with the team and his friends take their hard-earned money back from him.
6. Episode 95 (Hanamichi’s Hottest Day)

Hanamichi trains hard while his basketball team is away for their match with Jousei High. He has completed his hard training just as Shohoku High gets back. Haruki Akagi, his crush, decides to take Hanamichi to the summer festival for Hanamichi to wind back and relax after so much training. Hanamichi finds this opportunity perfect in order to get close to her. However, it’s not an easy task at all.
7. Episode 97 (Mixed Feelings, Uozumi Returns)

In this episode, we see a bunch of players of Shoyo High getting in tough with Shokoku High in order to wish them luck. However, Hanamichi has other plans for them. He suggests that both Shoyo High and Ryonan High should combine their forces and play against Shokoku High.
8. Episode 98 (Fierce Battle Begins! Shokoku vs Shoyo/Ryonan)

This episode shows us the start to the fierce battle between Shokoku and the combined forces of Shoyo High and Ryonan High. From the very start, we see Kaede stealing all the spotlight because of his gorgeous moves. However, the spotlight is soon shifted to Akira Sendoh who enters the gymnasium in his fishing clothes.
9. Episode 99 (Facing the Strongest Team, Shokoku in Danger!)

As Akira Sendoh and Kicchou Fukuda are there to play the match, the combination of Shoyo and Ryonan high had became even more dangerous and hard to defeat. We see Hanamichi struggling a bit. However, Shokoku is still leading the game.
10. Episode 100 (The Man of Miracles, Sakuragi Hanamichi)

The battle continues and Kenji Fujima is trying his best to make his team score easily. However, will Shokoku High let him do that?
Episode 101 (The Glorious Slam Dunk!)

All the players of the two teams are trying their hardest to contribute and make their respective teams win. Hanamichi slam dunks the ball and makes his team win with a score of 76-74. At the end of the episode, we see the teams of Shokoku High and Kainan High leave for the Inter High Tournament. Shokoku High is all pumped up and they’re manifesting that they will win the Inter High Tournament no matter what.
