20+ Anime About Art (Recommendations)

Hello! I hope you’re doing fine because for this blog, I will be sharing some that I think are the most recommended anime about arts.

The word “art” itself is broad. It could be in any form you want. There are arts like singing, painting, architecture, filmmaking, dancing and many more. But, what is more exciting is that artists are able to define art through other arts. Just like how anime, as an art, defines dancing, as an art.

There are artistically inclined people who are fond of anime. Some are lowkey doing art style like anime, while others are doing commissions and making money out of it. But, I still hold on to the fact that all of us are born artistically inclined.

And, as a member of the society that both appreciates art and anime, it is quite satisfying to watch anime that is centered with art.

So, here are 20+ anime about different types of art.

First on our list is an anime that is centered on a Japanese art student named Eiri Kurahashi. He works in a shop that is full of antique materials. As Eiri’s attention span shortens and his demeanor dramatically shifts, his friends begin to worry about him. They swiftly concluded that this was his problem with a girl.

Yeah, they’re kind of right. A beautiful girl is stuck in an old piece of glass from France. Eiri can’t get rid of her image, even though she looks like she’s living in a different world inside this glass. As he draws more and more likenesses of this weird little girl, he realizes that he has become completely in love with her. He draws her almost every day.

He learned her name is Cossette d’Auvergne. He recognized her because of the Italian artist, Marchello Orlando. He also learned that she and her family were killed in the same way. One time, when Eiri was closing the shop, a voice from nowhere told him not to leave. Finally, he finally meets the object of his desire, making him agree to the deal that he doesn’t fully realize.

What do you think of that deal? Do you think he’ll be happy after that? Learn more by watching Kozetto no Shouzou.

This next anime, if you may not be familiar with it, is about an artist in one of the world’s most densely populated metropolises, a veritable kaleidoscope of people from all walks of life, from peasants to artists, to economists, to samurai masters.

This anime revolves around Tetsuzo, a well-known artist of his generation, now in his mid-fifties, who works hard in his garbage-filled home-atelier. His works range from a huge Bodhidharma painted on a broad 180 square meter sheet of paper to a pair of birds painted on a tiny rice grain. He’d charge a fortune for any job that didn’t pique his interest.

O-Ei, Tetsuzo’s third daughter, inherited her father’s talent and intransigence, and often painted instead of him, unrecognized. Her art is so potent that it can cause problems.

Europe would discover Tetsuzo’s enormous skills decades later. He was known by the name Katsushika Hokusai. However, few people know that the woman who aided him throughout his life and substantially influenced his art is O-Ei, Master Hokusai’s daughter: the unsung story of a woman overshadowed by her father.

Do you think the story of O-Ei will remain unsung? Well, I’m not going to tell you! Just watch Sarusuberi for you to be enlightened about what really happened

For this next anime, it tells us about an overly passionate girl named Sora Kajiwara and her fellow art club members.

Sora Kajiwara finds the world full of fascinating and adorable things to sketch, like her favorite cats. If you’re like me, who loves cats, then you can really relate to Sora. Even if certain things can’t be captured with pencil and paper, she always has her sketchbook with her. Despite her shyness and childishness, she joins her school’s art club.

Like Sora, each of her art club mates has a unique idea and personality. Sora continues to break out of her shell and see more of the world around her, sketching whatever is on her mind or in her heart.

What do you think comes with joining an art club? You already know that it is not always fun, right? That’s why I recommend watching Sketchbook: Full Color’s to know the unique idea and personality of each of her clubmates!

It all began with Chiyo Sakura, a happy-go-lucky high school girl who fell in love with Umetarou Nozaki. When Chiyo confesses to Nozaki, he hands her an unknown autograph. Is it some sort of rejection? Well, I don’t know, I never had one.

Only to find out that boy is actually the well-known Shoujo Mangaka, a manga artist behind the pen name Sakiko Yumeno! That series of miscommunications led Chiyo to become Nozaki’s manga assistant. Imagine having an autograph of a manga artist and becoming his assistant, Chiyo is worth the jealousy after all.

Chiyo tries to help Nozaki with his comic, hoping he will notice her feelings. Will Nozaki notice and reciprocate Chiyo’s love for her? What do you think will happen? I know, but I think it would be better to know it by yourself. Watch Monthly Girls Nozaki-Kun to know more!

This next anime is quite interesting. For me personally, with our norms that have set female musicians as kind of rare, just like our euphonist female MC, knowing a highly skilled one can be interesting. If you haven’t watched this yet, then Hibike Eupohonium is highly recommended.

This anime is centered around Kumiko Oumae, a euphonist. But due to a somewhat failed incident in her middle school , she was thinking that she could start high school not-being a musician anymore.

Kumiko was inspired to make music again by her bandmates as she was surrounded by multiple people who showed interest in brass music. But chaos reigns within the band. Despite their desire to compete in the national band competition, just competing in the local festival will be difficult unless they find a new band advisor.

This anime revolves around Tatara Fujita, a bashful middle schooler with no specific future plans. He has survived by avoiding conflict and fitting in with the throng. But blending in isn’t enough for Tatara to avoid difficulties from bullies. Luckily, Kaname Sengoku saves him.

Tatara was invited to Kaname’s dance studio. Tatara is intrigued by Sengoku’s imposing demeanor, despite never having entered such a place. When Tatara is given the chance to dance with fellow classmate Shizuku Hanaoka, he realizes that being in the spotlight and performing in front of others is what keeps him coming back. Tatara enters the world of competitive dancing with a sincere desire to develop.

You cannot have a list of art-related anime without including Bakuman. This anime talks about a person who was destined to be a manga artist until one incident shifted his career. But once you’re destined for it, there’s no turning back.

This story is about Moritaka Mashiro, who aspired to be a mangaka like his uncle, Tarou Kawaguchi, creator of a successful joke manga. After a tragic event, he abandons his dream and spends his middle school years studying to become a salaryman. Even though Moritika already abandoned his dream, he still practices drawing by himself. Not until Akito Takagi, the school’s top student and aspiring writer, discovers Moritaka’s detailed drawings.

Akito approaches Moritaka, offering to become a mangaka together. In order to get his crush, Miho Azuki, to participate in the anime adaptation, Moritaka must persuade her to do so. So, the two began making manga under the pen name Muto Ashirogi, wanting to become the best mangaka in Japan.

We all know that music is a type of art. So, next on our list of anime about art is a musical anime that focuses on two people: a man who plays the violin and a lady who plays the piano.

The story begins with a violinist, Shinichi Chiaki. His desire is to play among the influential people of Europe. He comes from a respectable family and is a notorious perfectionist who is harsh on himself and others. Shinichi is only held back by his aversion to flying. So he’s stuck in Japan.

Shinichi meets Megumi Noda, or Nodame, in his fourth year at Japan’s finest music university. On the surface, she appears disheveled and aimless. Shinichi is awestruck by Nodame’s music when he first hears her play the piano.

Shinichi is shocked to learn that Nodame is his next-door neighbor and that she has fallen madly in love with him. Do you believe in their chemistry? Not that science one. If you do, well, it is your sign to watch Nodame Cantabile

This next anime is somehow relatable to me personally. It is about five students who showed their support and love for anime.

The five students are: Shizuka Sakaki, Ema Yasuhara, Aoi Miyamori, Misa Toudou, and Midori Ima

When these five best friends from Kaminoyama High School found their mutual love for anime, they formed the animation club.

Their first amateur anime show took place during the culture festival, inspiring them to seek careers in business and eventually develop their own popular show.

After 2 years and half, Ema and Aoi have landed jobs at Musashino Animation. Others, though, are having trouble finding work. Misa has been steadily working for models in a car company, but it doesn’t make her happy. Midori is a college student who wants to become a storyteller.

One time, he lost his temper when a veteran criticized his work. This resulted in his exile to the Goto Islands. It is both a punishment and a means of self-reflection for his father.

Surrounded by something that he is not used to, Seishuu must try to build his own distinct artistic style. As time passes by, the arrogant calligrapher learns more than he ever expected from his eccentric neighbors, who can’t mind their own businesses.

As an anime lover, Japanese style art is somehow interesting and worth learning. If you feel the same way I do, this is a must-watch anime series.

This is centered on Yotarou, a former yakuza member who, rather than returning to a life of crime, wishes to perform rakugo, a traditional Japanese style of comic storytelling. Inspired by the great practitioner Yakumo Yuurakutei’s performance, he resolves to see the man who transformed his life. When Yakumo hears Yotarou’s plea for help, he has no choice but to accept his first apprentice.

Yotarou meets Konatsu, a sassy young lady who has been living with Yakumo since the death of her loving father, Sukeroku Yuurakutei, another famous rakugo singer.

Despite studying other approaches, Yotarou is captivated by Sukeroku’s distinctive style of rakugo. Seeing this brings back memories for Yakumo, who recalls a day when he made a pledge to his fiercest adversary.

This is a tale set in both the past and present, emphasizing the art of rakugo that follows the lives and souls of individuals committed to preserving the art of rakugo.

If you are curious to know more about Japanese art, then I recommend watching Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.

If you’re new to anime, you may not know about this one. This was one of the best anime before the year 2010. This is about two people with the same name, Nana.

Nana Komatsu is a naive, lazy high school student who chases her crushes. Despite repeated failures in her hunt for love, her spirits remain high. At 20, she boards a train bound for Tokyo, hoping to reunite with her current lover.

Nana Osaki, on the other hand, is sassy. She falls in love with music and becomes one of the band members after joining a local band in high school. With her romance and her musical career on the line, she chooses the latter and leaves her boyfriend. She aspires to be a great singer and takes the same train as her namesake on her 20th birthday.

The two females with the same name but completely different goals end up sharing an apartment by chance. They form a strong and unique relationship that will sustain them on this odyssey of love, music, friendship, and tragedy.
