If you are  an active fan of anime or Japanese media in general, then following some online newspapers on the matter would be a pretty good idea. Only in Japanese just yet, but it has to be a great movie! Currently there are plenty of sources to gather info about your favorites, and not necessarily on the web! Even Instagram accounts post anime news nowadays, so I got some of them here too!

Check out this list and look after the sites mentioned to always get the most relevant info about the anime you love! Please keep in mind that every website is good on it’s own, and the rankings may not represent the value of one source.

So, what country is this website from? Ireland of course.

This list isn’t the place for British slander, even though I love British jokes. This website, the UK Anime Network is fairly simplistic, but the lack of good designing ability won’t make their articles into garbage! These writings are very fun to read, so make sure to check out their stuff once in a while!

Otaku Kart is not only a website focusing on Japanese stuff, but they do write about everything. Weirdly enough, despite being called Otaku Kart, they release articles about American Football too!

They have a news section about manga, where we can find 2-3 new articles published daily. This isn’t much compared to the competition, but they sure work a lot in every other field. Make sure to check them out if you’re interested in a variety of entertainment!

This India-based news website is basically the only big source of anime journalism on the subcontinent. Literacy in foreign languages is still weak in India, so this website is a channel that can broadcast the understanding of Japanese media from their perspective too.

They publish new articles periodically, so you can expect to see dozens of blogs posted on the same day, then a week-long break. They mostly post about new manga chapters and developments of such franchises, so the recent

The first Instagram account on the list already delivers a good punch. They publish the most important news relatively quickly. Their designs are neat and easy to digest, along with the topics of their posts.

Be it new designs for an upcoming movie or TV series, or just a simple confirmed release date, they can do a good job on the simplest of tasks. They even post the results of surveys conducted by publisher companies, which are usually very informative and objective.

Otaku Mode lives a double life if I can say so: they publish news articles and sell figurines at the same time. Hey, that’s what we are doing too! They do a wonderful job at both, as their website is pleasant to look at with a wide variety of goods to purchase.

Their newspaper is almost separated from their online shop, and you can browse for blog posts in an ocean of categories. Anime, manga, games, fashion, Japanese culture, and cosplays are all their specialties, so I can assure you that having fun is the only option. They operate with around 2-3 articles daily, which is more than enough based on how deep and well-made those blogs are.

Viz Media is the western license holder of most shonen titles, basically those that you could find in a Shonen Jump magazine. Well, Shueisha is the parent company of Viz too!

On their website, you can browse through the volumes and chapters of their franchises, and read the description of each entry, along with useful information about the series. Their press sadly lacks real articles, but they have a calendar that you can check for the upcoming new volumes!

11. Japan Times

New York Times? No, it’s Nippon Times! This website is actually operated from Japan (shocking, I know), and thus they can really give an insightful take on the media of their homeland.

Japan Times isn’t only anime or manga, they cover an ocean of categories. You can read about politics, economy, and local activities, but you can also find quality stuff if otaku culture is the only thing motivating you. Their articles are all published in English, so it’s obvious that the website’s main purpose is to educate the western fans of Japan about their everyday lives.

Another UK based website, huh? They do an even better job at uniting the community though! This website mostly works with Funimation, posting articles about all their minor actions, announcements of new series, or home video releases.

There is plenty of content on this website, so checking out UK Anime News just to have fun is an all legit idea. They always cover the more interesting stuff, so getting lost in information wouldn’t be an issue either.

9. Manga.Tokyo

Manga.Tokyo could have gotten an even higher position on the list if I were to write these articles years before, Sadly, the last posts published on the website are from more than a year ago, and it doesn’t look like that the page would be revived.

On the other hand, you can always find quality stuff on Manga.Tokyo! Their articles were always the best of the best, featuring not only honest and quick posts about gossip in the industry but fun and entertaining reviews of virtually any series. This is also a website located in Japan, so their first-hand journalism is impeccable.

8. Kotaku

GO Media holds many fantastic websites. They all explore different kinds of our everyday lives, focusing on specific matters of journalism. Well, Kotaku is their branch specialized in gaming and anime!

Sadly, the latter falls into the shadows compared to the attention that the gaming news gets. Kotaku on the other hand is an all-around wonderful website. They feature extremely well-made articles about the important changes in the world of entertainment, with a living community! You can really find your soulmates in the comment section of Kotaku!

7. Random Curiosity

Type: Website

Random Curiosity is not as random as you would expect. The whole website is dedicated to anime, but I can assure you, there is a lot to read about. New articles get released multiple times a day, but they are not quite the journalistic takes on fresh stuff.

RC usually includes opinionated reviews of new anime episodes. Like, for every episode. They post pretty good stuff about the ongoing shows, analyzed to the max. They include a massive amount of pictures in their articles, along with a well-structured text.

6. Anime Senpai

Type: Instagram Page

Another Instagram account, but now the real competition showed up! Make sure to get ready, cause the next few websites will all blow your mind with their abilities to entertain and educate the fans.

Anime Senpai (honestly everyone uses this nickname) might possibly be the biggest news source about anime on Instagram. Their stuff is really good, which justifies the 100k follower base.

Their posts are all perfectly edited, unique, and compelling. You see, most anime accounts just copy each other with the speed of light, but if anything Anime Senpai is the source of all those stolen posts! They are worthy of getting copied, as they are role models of anime journalism.

5. Crunchyroll

Quality Of News Credibility Quantity Of News Total
15/20
18/20
10/10
43/50

Type: Website

Crunchyroll serves every purpose of an anime website ever: they not only publish meaningful information about the media all the time, but you can also stream anime there!

While their supplies aren’t unlimited, and they split most of the stuff with Funimation in the Western Hemisphere, watching anime on Crunchyroll is the easiest and most convenient choice you can make. They have most of the known anime world uploaded, and you can also just check out previews in case you haven’t decided on investing in a subscription yet.

Their news department is really a factory of fine literature, as Crunchyroll is an insider in the matter, as well as having acquired the most professional people in the field, reading their news is a pure resting session.

4. CBR

20/20
17/20
7/10
44/50

Type: Website

I have to be honest with you here. CBR is probably my go-to website on this list right after MAL. They do such a wonderful job at listing stuff, expressing their ideas, posting news, and finding the key parts of one series or another that I can’t resist but use them as a source for all my works!

CBR is one of the most credible sources for news and reviews, as they really explain every little choice of theirs. Even subtitles are detailed, making sure to keep the attention of the reader.

I especially liked their blog posts about five positive and five negative entries that give a contrast to the topic. They write about a whole bunch of categories, so they can give a good time to even non-anime fans!

3. Daily Dose of Anime

Type: Instagram Page

Just like the Daily Dose of Internet, their anime counterparts work a lot to entertain and educate us! They post regularly on Instagram, with original and interesting artwork. Their news stories are fun to read, detailed, and aesthetically pleasing.

They are truly known in the otaku community, as their post has an insane reach every single time despite the not-so-huge follower base. I can only recommend you to follow this account!

2. MyAnimeList

Type: Website

Cmon, who hasn’t heard of MAL? It is truly the essential website of every weeb. There are many different sites to rank your anime nowadays, but MAL will always be the most representative, thus the one that can give a better picture of the perception of anime.

They do plenty of other stuff too besides serving as an anime database though! MAL has an active community, one that likes to debate and bring attention to all kinds of shows.

Events organized by the owners of MAL usually give a fantastic playground for the fans. We can all express our opinion, create lists, gather friends and enemies at these events dedicated to a genre.

MAL also serves as a wonderful news-press site! They are above the competition for many reasons, but most notably they send out reminders in email notifications about new stuff that might catch your interest based on your previous anime! You will always get first-hand information from MAL, which is a wonderful thing!

And finally the best of the best: ANN! You might have heard about this website already, as they are no match for any other anime newsgroup. To convince you, I will bring up some statistics: by the time of me writing this blog, they have published 21(!) new articles TODAY

Besides the crazy quantity of their works, they also put an emphasis on quick and well-structured stuff. They are real professionals, and it’s hard to believe that some people can do such a wonderful job at anime journalism.

Their articles are fairly simplistic and easy to read. Nothing reaches beyond 300 words, which is understandable. You can get the most meaningful information from ANN, so don’t hesitate, set them up as a bookmark on your browser!

Where Do We Rank? Let Us Know!

These were my top picks for the best anime news sites in 2021! These brands were all founded to serve entertainment and journalism, and they all excel at their jobs!

To be honest, I’m quite amazed at some of these groups. Staying true to the love of a culture is not an easy job, but several of these websites worked relentlessly over the years to pay a tribute to their most beloved pieces of art: anime and manga.

While you’re at it, I can recommend you to check out our other articles about the community of journalists and the anime industry!
