22+ Anime Where the MC Is Overpowered but Underestimated (RECOMMENDATIONS)

anime where mc is overpowered but underestimated

Good morning, afternoon, or evening to you anime fanatics! Today, we present you with 22 Anime Where the MC Is Overpowered but Underestimated! I’m very excited to share with you a few of my favorite anime where the MCs aren’t taken as seriously as they should.

You might want to keep a few minutes by your side as you watch some of these series because if these plots don’t grind your gears, you’re going to grit your teeth real hard. If you ever need to manifest an anger that’s unfathomable to the human brain, just randomly pick one of these series.

Before I pop an aneurysm thinking about the hardships these MCs have gone through because of the public, let’s just get started.

In Japan, there was a junior high team that completely destroyed any basketball game. They were undefeated. This was the Teiko Junior High basketball team. This team consisted of five all star players called the Generation of Miracles.

These five celebrities, if you will, all went to different high schools after graduating. However, there was a secret sixth player in Generation of Miracles. Soma Yukihira makes me want to slap him on the back and across the face at the same time. He’s a hilarious character to watch. He wants to become a full-time chef in his father’s family restaurant. To do this, he needs to attend a very prestigious and difficult to get into culinary school.

Miraculously, he successfully passes the ridiculously hard entrance exam. As a transfer student, he must give a speech at the opening ceremony. He only says a few sentences, one being that this school is all but a stepping stone in his career and that he will beat everyone to take the number one spot.

Assassination Classroom is about a group of students studying under an octopus like alien. Yeah, you heard me right. Nothing says education than an otherworldly creature.

But don’t fret, Korosensei, the alien, isn’t there to teach History and Algebra 2. He is there to be assassinated by his students. Pretty standard, huh? If none of these highly skilled kids succeed in killing Koro Sensei by the end of the school year, there will be slight complications. That being Kurosensei destroying the entire world. Nagisa, the MC, surely underestimated most of the series until he released his KILLER INTENT! Scary stuff, I must say.

Satou Yoh is arguably a well-behaved high schooler. Yes, he is clumsy, but that’s fine. He’s intelligent though, so that plays in his favor. Especially when he’s being beaten in a supermarket!

Poor guy just wanted a half-priced bento. That’s all. However, getting your hands on a cheap half-priced bento means you’re willing to shed blood in this town. It’s a craze fest between students.

Satou is recruited by Sen Yarizui who is a top fighter. She invites him to the Half-Priced Food Lovers Club, and that is when he starts training to compete in these ferocious bento battles.

Darwin’s Game is similar to Btooom! It’s about a teenager named Sudo who is invited to play an app game called Darwin’s Game. But this isn’t a classic Flappy Bird kind of model. It’s a survival game, but in IRL. And there is no way to logout.

Each player in this game has a Sigil or unique evolutionary ability. Darwin, evolution. It makes sense. Sudo is dead set on clearing this game to take revenge on its creators.

King Avatar is about a pro-player in the MMORPG Glory game. His name is Ye Xiu. Unfortunately, he is coerced into retiring. Why? Well, it’s because the standard ideal of growing up and maturing is only achieved by giving up enthusiasm that is ignited during your childhood days.

To make things short, the people around Ye Xiu told him it’s a waste of his time and he should be making some coins instead. The plot turns when Glory launches their 10th server, igniting Ye Xiu’s desire to play once again.

Asta wants to become the Wizard King. He lives in a world where people have magic and mana. Funny thing is that Asta has not a single drop of magic nor mana. But that doesn’t stop him from his intense physical training with Yuno, his childhood friend who is considered a magical prodigy.

At his coming-of-age ceremony, Asta doesn’t receive a Grimoire or a book that permits its user to cast certain advanced spells. Yuno, on the other hand, is given an extremely rare four-leaf clover Grimoire. This is a major blow to Asta (about not getting a Grimoire, not the whole Yuno thing because Asta truly wants the best for his friend), but this doesn’t stop him from trying to achieve his dreams.

His drive is remarkable. No wonder he later awakens his five-leaf Grimoire.

Saitama is a depressed, unemployed man that believes life has nothing worth to offer. I don’t blame him, the man’s done with it all.

One day, he comes back from yet another failed job interview, only to come across a Crab monster that wants to rip a kid to shreds. If there is one thing to learn from this situation, it’s to not rudely comment on a person’s appearance.

Anyway, this kid is terrified. I would too if a crab with a naked man’s lower body is running after my neck. Again, Saitama is not a remarkable person. But, as if on instinct, he fights this monster and ends up protecting this kid. Nobody would have expected this depressed man to have such an intense amount of strength and energy.

I’ll admit, I didn’t watch this series when it first came out. It actually took me this year to start it. And man was I impressed with the plot. I never hated red-haired anime characters, in fact, I adored them! That is until I watched Rising of the Shield Hero.

Iwatani is an adult who spends most of his time holed up in his room. He gets transported into a fantasy game one day. He, and three other humans belonging to different time eras, are brought to the game as heroes. They each get a different weapon. Iwatani gets the infamous shield.

Iwatani

Can you tell me what a shield does besides defense? You can’t! Iwatani is looked down upon because of his weapon, and due to certain events, he is framed and is completely shunned by the kingdom.

We watch Iwatani battle these horrific rumors of himself and at the same time, we see him coming up with every idea imaginable to utilize his shield to the best of his abilities.

You had to have known Naruto would be ranked number one on this list. Naruto is the son of the fourth Hokage. Unfortunately, Naruto lost both of his parents during the Nine-tailed Fox’s attack on Konohagakure.

In efforts to stop the Nine-Tailed Fox, Minato sealed it away in Naruto’s body. Naruto was only a baby at the time. Since Naturo has the Nine-Tailed Fox trapped in his body, the village refuse to acknowledge him. Thus, Naruto is shunned by the people his father saved.

Despite all this hate, Naruto wants to become the next Hokage. Everybody laughs at him. Nobody believes in him. I’ve watched all of Naruto twice, and oh how the tables have turned.

Comment If you wanna challenge me!

Personally, it was very frustrating to watch these OP main characters constantly being looked upon. Not only are these characters strong, but they have a big heart. During most of their screen time, I wanted to jump into the screen and give them a bear hug. I wanted to let them know that I will always root for them even during their harshest moments.

I think that’s what’s tough about being only a viewer—you can’t give the characters the joy they have given us. I love them all to pieces, so until they get their fairy-tale ending, I won’t rest. One of these series ended during 2021, and because of the main character’s fate, I will never sleep happy. It sucks man, not being able to do anything. But that’s the price we have to pay as we watch these legends’ stories.
