11. My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Hachiman Hikigaya

Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Drama, Romance, School

Allow me to tell you a bit about Hachiman Hikigaya. He is pretty good at being a loner. He’s often been said to have the nature of a spineless goon and that of a petty criminal. Shizuka Hiratsuka even pointed out his nasty eyes, mentality, and unsavory attitude.

And do note that he has no girlfriend or friends. But despite all the “hard guy” characters he portrays, he is revealed to have a soft side and is pretty sympathetic and caring. So even though he avoids other people, he’s often observant of their plights.

10. Stigma of the Wind/Kaze no Stigma

Main Character: Kazuma Yagami

Genre: Action, Magic, Romance, Fantasy, Shounen

Kaze No Stigma Anime Series tells the tale of “Kazuma Yagami,” a cool and powerful MC that’s a user of “Fujitsu,” wind control capability.

After he was banned four years ago because he was unable to control his fire and was later defeated in a battle with his younger cousin, Ayano Kannagi, he returned to his former home, the Kannagi aristocratic family.

9. Hyouka

Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Houtarou Oreki

Genre: Mystery, School, Slice of Life

I guess you could name him “gloomy and bored”. Hyouka’s story shows us that a normal person’s life could still contain mild mysteries, ranging from different things. One thing which, however, he has with other loner characters, is the fact that they’re all usually lazy.

And sometimes he does have a certain funny look on his face which you just can’t help but laugh at. And we often see him as a cynical, apathetic, and tranquil individual that shows very little interest in other people. If not for the fact that he’s the main character in Hyouka, you probably would not even notice him.

8. NHK Ni Youkoso! (Welcome to the NHK)

Welcome To NHK
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Tatsuhiro Satou

Genre: Comedy, Psychological, Drama, Romance

If asked to define the word “loner”, I would most definitely say “Tatsuhiro Satou”. Come on, if you think I’m wrong, can you stay in your apartment and not talk to anyone for almost a year? Because that’s what Tatsuhiro did since he lives alone, and just gets his needs from shopping online.

But don’t be deceived by his pretense, because deep down, he also isn’t pleased with himself for being so lonely. And in terms of being cool or badass, it’s pretty much correct to say Tatsuhiro just sits on the fence.

7. Kubikiri Cycle

Kubirikiri Cycle
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Boku

Genre: Action, Mystery, Supernatural, And Drama

The tale is about the “I” character of Loner and the murders and mysteries he meets. He attempts to keep out of the narrative in vain but is constantly at the heart of everything. He is the type of person that just goes with the flow and has difficulty remembering things.

As a kid, he did have a quick temper, up till the time he got to Houston. But we see him as a bit clumsy, as even though it seems as if he contributed, he always considers it pointless what he accomplished.

6. Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha

Darker Than Black
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Hei

Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Mystery, Super Power

Wow! A badass character! What do you want to know about this guy? Because believe me, there’s a lot of things to say about him, so much so you wouldn’t get to the end of this blog if we start talking about him. But, well, let’s just scoop the ice at the top then.

You must have heard about a famous assassin in Great Britain, sometimes during the ’70s, popularly known as “Jack the Ripper” . Well here is his anime version. His life is completely devoid of friends, as he keeps to himself and is a feared assassin when he was working as a Contractor.

But on a good note, he does have someone he cares deeply for, Bai, his sister. And though he is a character you would fear, you just also can’t help but admire the kind of respect he’s gotten for himself, despite all odds.

5. Trigun

Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Vash the Stampede

Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Shounen

To be sincere, this guy’s appearance is pretty complex, and in contrast to his personality. Vash the Stampede, as he is fondly called is a plant, a humanoid, with metal and cybernetic body parts and with an incredible shooting and war skill set. And at the start of the series, he was a complete idiot. But with time, this idiot’s seriousness and strengths increased as the series went along.

No doubt he’s a cry baby and a loner, but we see Vash as an emissary for peace. He’s just a character with a natural disposition to peace and harmony, and would willingly give his life or even endanger his own life to see that harmony thrives in any place he is. In terms of being cool, he is one character you might like to emulate.

4. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Saiki Kusuo

Genre: Comedy, School, Shounen, Slice of Life, Supernatural

So far, I’ve not seen a female main character that’s a cool loner. It’s usually the guys that take up that space.  Oh! Did you think Saiki is a girl? Hahaha! Nah, he isn’t. And just as the name of the anime and that of our main character might’ve had you guessing, Saiki is a character that possesses psychic talents of various sorts.

He often attempts to avoid tough situations. And at first, we usually see him alone, but as time went by, he got to make friends with Shun and Riki. In terms of being cool, Saiki is one of a kind. To be pretty honest, most of the time, Kusuo is unselfish, ready to forego his pleasure for the benefit of others.

3. Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

Phantom in the Twilight
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Zwei

Genre: Action, Drama, Sinen, Thriller

Lonely is the life of an assassin. And as part of his natural survival instinct, Zwei has learned not to have any affiliations or relationships with anyone, as that could be used by his enemies to get to him and have him killed.

Drawn into a world of lies, deception, and brutality, Zwei must struggle to live, hoping that one day he will recover his memories and escape from this world where he is always on the verge of death.

2. The King’s Avatar

The King's Avatar
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Ye Xiu

Genre: Action, Game

Apart from being an overpowered MC, Ye Xiu is a fine and cool loner. He is one of the Four Master Technicians, and he’s also popularly known as the “Glory Textbook”. I wonder why that is so! And because he is direct and talks without a filter, Ye Xiu often irritates people. He has a reputation for being outspoken and caustic.

Let me ask you a question, just how well can you keep your cool, especially if your friends are taunting you about something? If you can’t do that well, you should probably emulate Ye, as he does not become enraged or upset in situations where others may.

1. Classroom of the Elite

Classroom Of The Elite
Loneliness Coolness Total

Main Character: Kiyotaka Ayanokoji

Genre: Slice of Life, Psychological, Drama, School

Liked and respected by everyone, including the cold and unfriendly Suzune, Kiyotaka Ayanokoji is cool and friendly but has no friends. How is that possible?

Well, he just doesn’t see anyone like friends or allies, and he sees everyone as a means to his end, and his ability to remain calm and also smartly overcome obstacles even made him be seen as a leading figure among his classmates.

Just like his gentlemanly look might’ve suggested to you, he is a perfect gentleman, cool and nice to everyone, even to those who do not like him, and avoids situations that make him show how talented he is in martial arts.

Comment Or Shinobu will be sad

The ratings attached to these characters above might not conform with yours, as even public opinion on how cool and lonely the MCs are also varied and fall on either side. And I do hope you did like these selections, and as you might’ve expected, the list of anime MCs that are cool yet lonely doesn’t have only the above 11.

Nah! There are lots and lots of loner main protagonists out there, but these selected few are still the ones I’d recommend to you because they do stand out among the rest.
